Wafer rolls with condensed milk or cream, how to cook

Guess what unites Angelique, the heroine of the immortal novel by Anna and Serge Golon, the composer Strauss and the psychoanalyst Freud? It turns out that they all loved waffle rolls.

There are a great many types of waffles, and each country offers its own recipe for making waffle rolls. Liege ones are served with pearl sugar, in Belgium - with cream and powdered sugar.

These desserts are mind-blowingly delicious, but you have to travel thousands of kilometers to enjoy them.

KhozOboz suggests preparing a crispy delicacy from those products that are found in every housewife’s refrigerator. The most important thing is to find a waffle iron. Our grandmothers meant by this device two cast-iron plates that were heated in the stove, and modern devices simply plug into an outlet and apply a “honeycomb” pattern to the waffle during the baking process.

The history of the appearance of wafer rolls

Initially, waffles were a festive dish exclusively for the poor, because they were baked from leftover dough in water, after which they were poured with syrup. In the 15-16th century, the situation changed dramatically, and only the rich could afford dessert (at that time it was about 10 cm thick), and then the era of mass consumption of waffles began.

This happened when the first frying pan for baking waffles was invented. A little later, in 1904, Syrian emigrant Ernest Hamwi found a new use for flat thin waffles: he gave the waffle the shape of a cone and proposed filling it with ice cream. It turned out that wafer rolls are a universal product.

It can be filled with sweet cream, the one your sweet tooth prefers, stuffed with minced meat, or eaten just like that.

Calorie content

Those who like to cook something sweet quickly adopted the recipe for making waffles. But if you need to control your weight, then while devouring the fifth, remember that dessert is very high in calories. Below is the calorie content of empty, that is, unfilled tubes:

  • Zhirov – 23.48 g.
  • Belkov – 4.73 g.
  • Carbohydrates – 63.30 g.
  • Calorie content – 459.00 Kcal.

In addition, the calorie content will increase due to the cream. So, protein cream will add 444 kcal, and cream based on condensed milk will add 985 kcal (per 100 g). Therefore, KhozOboz recommends choosing fillings that are not only tasty, but also healthy. For example, fill the cones with fresh berries or marshmallow cream.
