Dizziness after sex does not usually indicate a serious health problem. In most cases, discomfort occurs due to overexertion, thirst or hunger. But it's important to know all your options.
While feeling slightly unwell and dizzy after sex is normal and not dangerous, severe or frequent sensations can be a cause for concern, especially if other symptoms are present. We tell you about all the reasons and explain in what cases you need to see a doctor.
Breathing changes
Sexual arousal causes people to breathe deeper and faster than usual. These changes can lead to a decrease in the amount of carbon dioxide in the blood. The medical term for this process is hyperventilation.
Potential symptoms of hyperventilation
- Dizziness;
- lightheadedness;
- fast heartbeat;
- dyspnea;
- numbness or tingling in the arms or legs;
- anxiety;
- fainting.
Breathing slowly and deeply usually relieves symptoms of hyperventilation. However, people experiencing anxiety or panic attacks may be unable to breathe deeply. A person should talk to their doctor about other options for treating the condition.
Changes in posture
Postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS) causes a person's heart rate to suddenly increase when they change position or stand up too quickly. An increased heart rate can cause a person to feel dizzy and even faint.
Possible symptoms of POTS
- Dizziness;
- cardiopalmus;
- tremor (shaking of hands or feet);
- chest pain;
- nausea.
Some people notice symptoms when they change positions during sex. POTS is usually not dangerous. However, a person experiencing the above symptoms should see a doctor to ensure that they do not have an underlying heart problem.
Hormonal fluctuations
Sex stimulates a powerful release of hormones and neurotransmitters. For some people, these chemicals cause a temporary feeling of intense euphoria, which can lead to dizziness. Others may experience dizziness as the body returns to normal and releases fewer chemicals associated with sex. Dopamine is a neurochemical that helps people feel motivated and happy during sex. Medicines that mimic dopamine in the brain can cause dizziness as a side effect. It's possible that people who experience a natural rush of dopamine during sex may also experience dizziness.
The effect of defloration on the body
Deprivation of virginity is associated with a certain discomfort, both physiological and emotional.
During the first intimacy, damage to the hymen occurs. This process is accompanied by bleeding. The discharge is accompanied by unpleasant sensations and can last about 3 days. In addition, many representatives of the fairer sex experience a delay in menstruation after the first time. Some women take this event calmly. Others, on the contrary, experience anxiety. In general, after the first sexual intercourse, menstrual periods are often delayed. This phenomenon is considered by experts as the norm. The delay in this situation is explained by emotional overstrain and changes in the balance of hormones.
Vertigo
This is a type of dizziness in which a person feels like they are spinning.
Other possible symptoms
- Loss of balance;
- nausea;
- vomit.
Some people report feeling dizzy after sex.
It can be caused by problems with the inner ear, which helps regulate a person's movements and sense of balance. People who experience dizziness after sex usually experience vertigo at other times.
For example, they may develop symptoms when they exercise or stand up too quickly.
“Friendship sex is common here: a Belarusian woman shares her impressions of life in Switzerland
Maria Alekseenko is 23 years old, she graduated from Moscow State Linguistic University with a degree in linguist, translator-referent. After graduating from university, the girl decided to continue her master's studies in Switzerland. The girl told the “Our People Abroad” project about the peculiarities of studying in the field of “tourism and hotel management” and her impressions of Switzerland.
About moving
— It so happened that my dad has been working in the construction industry in the United Arab Emirates for 15 years, and my mother left to join him 6 years ago. Since childhood, I have been spending my holidays in Dubai; this city has become my hometown, so moving to another country was not at all scary. After graduating from Moscow State Linguistic University, I was going to continue my studies in Germany, because at the university I also studied German in addition to English, but Germany no longer seems as safe a country as before, and my family and I thought and chose Switzerland - a country where, moreover, one of the The official languages are German.
In order to enroll in a master's program, you need to pass the IELTS or TOEFL language exam. I passed the TOEFL with a score of 92 out of 120. After that, I searched Google for “best universities in the world for tourism and hotel management.” What I liked most was the César Ritz Colleges, which is part of the prestigious SEG (Swiss Education Group) group of higher schools. I chose this field because tourism is a rapidly developing industry and more and more people are traveling, so here I can earn good money over time. And the impetus for the profession was an accident - in Minsk, while still a student, I, as a translator, accompanied a group of Pakistani businessmen during the Belarusian-Pakistani forum of textile manufacturers. They stayed at the DoubleTree by Hilton hotel, where I was amazed by the level and quality of work, and I realized that I would like to work in a place like this.

To get a visa, I went to the embassy in Moscow, and found out about entering Switzerland myself; I didn’t contact the agency, because its services are very expensive. For the university, I collected the following documents: resume, motivation letter, copy of the passport, 4 official photographs, translation of the diploma, language test results, letters of recommendation, completed university application form - all translated into English. I sent the documents in June, and in the same month the results of enrollment arrived. The school year started at the beginning of October.
Education in Switzerland is exclusively paid; it is no secret that this is a very expensive country where you have to pay a lot of money for everything, so I applied for a one-time scholarship without hesitation. I’ll tell you right away that in our understanding they don’t have any scholarships. The discount on tuition was 7000 CH (approximately equal to a dollar). On average, master's students pay from 15-20,000 CH per trimester, undergraduate students pay less. The permanent discount is mainly provided to students with extensive experience in the industry, children of businessmen from the hotel business, children of diplomats, as well as those who study with close relatives.
About university and studies
My university consists of three campuses, which are located in Lucerne, Bouveray and Brig. Master's students study in Brig, a small town with a population of 12,000 people located in the south of the country at the foot of the Alps.
The education system is fundamentally different from the Belarusian one, because Switzerland is a real Europe, where everything works according to different standards. For example, after graduating from university I will receive a double degree - a Master of Arts in Hotel and Tourism Management, and a second from the British University of Darby, which cooperates with my university. This system means that students' exam papers are assessed not only by teachers at our school, but also by Darby teachers. We upload assignments to a special student online platform, they are checked, and as a result, the arithmetic average is taken into account.
The division of the academic year is also different - it is divided into four “terms” (trimesters), which last 11 weeks. At the moment I am finishing the second “term” of training. After the 3rd year, students undergo a mandatory six-month internship. If you do an internship in Switzerland, then you will definitely be paid a salary, which is 2000 francs (CH) - that’s about 2000 dollars.
My university has an important feature - a dress code. The manicure should not be bright, the nails cannot be long, the haircut should be short, and if the hair is long, then you need to tie it in a ponytail or pull it back. Heel - no higher than 7 centimeters, classic, closed shoes, skirt - maximum 2 centimeters above the knee, blouses - only classic ones, without ruffles, and you must wear a name badge with the logo of the university and the partner university.
Some of the students don’t like it and they break the rules, but I’m a pretty conservative person, so I stick to the rules with great pleasure and respect for the principles of the hotel business. In addition, you should not miss classes. If a student has been absent for more than 2 hours in a subject for “term”, then he is sent a final warning letter, and then called in for a conversation with the director. It is believed that such a strict approach fosters readiness for us to go to work every day, despite our conditions and desires.
Delays of more than 5-10 minutes are considered one hour late. In addition, the university has the right to check the level of alcohol and drugs in a student’s blood. You can't have alcohol in the dorms, and you definitely can't drink it. The rooms are checked by so-called educators, and if they find any alcohol, the student is sent a first warning letter; if this happens a second time, they are called to the director and may be denied further residence in the dormitory. Therefore, when students want to celebrate something, the only option is to purchase alcohol on the ground floor in the hostel bar, where it is possible to drink it.
It is almost impossible to combine work and study, we are busy at the university from 10.00 to 17.00, even though I only have four subjects and French as an addition to the semester.
In the master's program, we are taught to do several things at the same time, we listen to lectures, take notes, write motivation letters in pairs, correct resumes and much more. A lot of attention is paid to group work, for example, we develop marketing strategies for real-life tourist sites and hotels. For example, we recently analyzed the success story of AirBnb (an online platform for posting, searching and short-term rental of private housing around the world. - Ed.) to understand why the company became successful, to find the problems it faced during its development business, and suggest strategies to improve its performance. The educational process also focuses on how students interact in groups, how they distribute their forces and how they are able to present the results of their work in public.
Student community of hotel management Еta Sigma Delta
Much attention is also paid to the dialogue between students and university staff. In the first week of school, the dean called me to talk, I, of course, was scared, but it turned out that she just wanted to establish contact with me so that in the future I would trust her and know that I could always ask for help. Thus, any university student can calmly tell the rector about everything that worries him, and they will listen to you with joy, because your opinion or comment helps make the university better. The administration regularly conducts surveys among students to find out how they feel about teachers, how much they like the subjects, food, etc.
The university helps us develop our careers. There is a special office that helps with finding internships. In addition, after finishing the first semester, I was initiated into the hospitality student community Eta Sigma Delta for excellent academic performance. Membership provides some privileges, for example, professionally oriented trips are organized for community members. My first trip took place recently: I visited one of the best hotels in Geneva, where I had the honor of talking about my career with the restaurant manager of the Grand Hotel Kempinski and seeing real luxury with my own eyes. And twice a year we always participate in the international recruiter forum IRF, which brings together HR managers and other representatives of more than a hundred companies from the hospitality sector, where you can find a paid internship in any corner of the planet.
At the end of my studies, instead of a diploma, I will have to present a business plan - a huge multi-vector project for developing my potential business in the hospitality industry. For example, the project will include the general concept of the establishment, marketing strategy, information about the target audience, potential threats, sources of investment, budget direction and much, much more. We will defend our projects on a competitive basis with other students of the specialty.
I think one of the biggest benefits of studying abroad is the cultural exchange, which would be great to bring into student life in Belarus. During this year, I was able to meet students from the USA, France, Iceland, Germany, Romania, Denmark, Finland, Switzerland, China, India, Ghana, China, Japan, Brazil and Korea - this is an immersion in the culture of other peoples that enriches you and broadens your horizons, without having to leave the country.
City and local people
The first thing that surprised me in Brig was, oddly enough, that all drivers yield to pedestrians as soon as they take a step towards the pedestrian crossing. The cars here are beautiful and expensive, and, of course, there are a lot of shops with famous Swiss watches. The locals are very polite, of course, everyone by default says “good afternoon”, “thank you”, “have a nice day”. In a word, this is real Europe.
Regarding the Swiss, my subjective opinion is this: they are businesslike, collected and focused on their careers, they can devote their whole lives to study or work, in principle, therefore, serious relationships, and especially a family, cannot be built here at my age. Perhaps, due to careerism, the phenomenon of friends with benefits, or in Russian “friendship sex”, is widespread among young Swiss, when people are in a sexual relationship, but at the same time are friends with each other. Therefore, people here do not waste time on romance, dating and courtship.
I myself try not to think about relationships, because I’m here for a good start to my career. I’m not saying that you need to be a woman with a steely character and forget about your family, but in Switzerland I realized that a woman needs to be stubborn, persistent and strong morally, the main thing is that she needs to respect herself, appreciate and be proud of her achievements.
It struck me that among the indigenous population of Switzerland there are many active grandfathers and grandmothers; you can see a touching picture when the elderly walk holding hands. And there are also a lot of people with disabilities who do not sit at home, but appear in public places - walking, traveling, enjoying life and drinking wine. In addition to other stereotypes that have been confirmed, the Swiss are very punctual, and if you have an appointment, it is better to arrive early.
Their service is excellent: for some time I lived in a five-star hotel in Brig, where everything works like clockwork: the service is calm, the staff is friendly and accommodating. Having been on an excursion to the Grand Hotel Kempinski in Geneva, where the clients are mostly businessmen from Arab countries, as a novice hotelier I noticed that even the aroma in the hotel was chosen according to the tastes of the target audience. The cost of living in such a hotel is about 95,000 CH per day, a single room with a view of the famous Geneva Lake Leman.
The climate in Switzerland is wonderful: warm, a lot of sun, beautiful winter and spring, little rain, some slush, but not often. The Swiss themselves are obsessed with the environment and, of course, sort their garbage. There was a case when a woman threw a bottle on the street past a trash can, so she was found using her fingerprints and was fined 2,000 euros. The crime rate is extremely low - sellers display their goods on the street unattended and are not afraid of it being stolen.
The Swiss earn well - an average of 3,000 francs. In my industry, middle managers earn 8-12 thousand francs, and as for daily expenses, I pay about 50 francs for 2 packages of products. The list of mandatory expenses also includes insurance, which covers most doctors, as well as prescription drugs, but, for example, you will have to treat your teeth at your own expense.
There is no hostility towards foreigners, because people come to Switzerland from different parts of the world; recently, according to locals, there have been many more students from China. The Swiss have heard about Belarus and are always interested in what language we speak, what our capital is and how many people live in it. Switzerland itself has four official languages - German, French, Italian and Romansh, but even with an excellent knowledge of languages, I encounter difficulties in conveying emotions and nuances of speech. A few weeks ago, a friend from India’s grandfather died, I didn’t know how to support him and how to express emotions in English, so I decided that I needed to stay close - this is understood without words.
Switzerland has a very developed infrastructure; you can get to even the most remote towns by train, but tickets are quite expensive, so it’s more profitable to take a yearly pass, which costs about $200 a year. Students travel a lot, especially during four-day mini-vacations - everyone tries to go somewhere. This time I visited Nice, Monte Carlo and Florence with friends, and during the time I was studying, I managed to visit Zurich, Geneva, Berne, Montreux, Vevey, Milan.
The trains are very fast, quiet and comfortable, so traveling becomes a complete pleasure. I am Orthodox, I regularly went to church in Minsk, but here there are mainly Protestant parishes, so whenever possible I go to either Zurich or Milan, which are three hours away, for services. My friends try to support me in this; no one thinks that spending half a day on a trip to the temple is strange and pointless.
In Switzerland I don’t feel lonely, I have found the company of people with whom I spend time and constantly feel their support. Besides, my family always helps me. It so happens that I, my dad, mom and brother are graduates of Moscow State Linguistic University, so I can always consult with them about culture and language, they understand my difficulties and share my successes. I miss them, but I understand that everything they did for me is priceless.
My parents worked for many years so that I could receive a decent education and many doors opened for me. Sometimes it seems that if you have financial capabilities, then life becomes easy, but in fact it imposes a huge responsibility for every step, you understand that you need to work hard and appreciate every day, no matter what it is.
High blood pressure
Sex can increase blood pressure.
This effect is especially likely if a person has sex for a long period or has intense sex that leaves them breathless. High blood pressure can cause dizziness. A person may notice that the dizziness increases as activity increases and gradually decreases as their heart rate returns to normal.
Will men respect me?
Your experience in your sex life is only your experience. You are under no obligation to expose it to the public or men. With every new man there will be a completely new experience and it’s up to you how you make it.
Unfortunately, double standards still exist in our society. If a woman starts a relationship with a man she doesn’t know well, she is, to put it mildly, unworthy of respect. Although for a man this seems to be no big deal.
Often, as a psychologist, I have heard revelations about men’s first sexual experiences, and believe me, there is enough there to lose the respect of all women in the world. But a person learns from his mistakes, he develops, becomes wiser, does good deeds, and deserves the respect of others.
We can use what happened as an impetus for development or drive ourselves into a corner with irrational thoughts and fears.
Use your experience to better understand yourself as a woman, your needs, weaknesses and strengths.
Low blood pressure
It can also cause dizziness after sex. Intimacy can cause a strong rush of emotion, which stimulates the vagus nerve, which carries information between the brain and the rest of the body. Overstimulation of this nerve temporarily dilates blood vessels, thereby lowering blood pressure. Doctors call this vasovagal syncope.
Possible symptoms of such fainting
- Dizziness;
- malaise and lightheadedness;
- confusion;
- staggering;
- feeling of stuffiness and sweating;
- dark spots in the eyes.
If a person with vasovagal syncope loses consciousness, their blood pressure usually returns to normal relatively quickly. If he does not faint, full recovery may take several minutes.
Stroke
It occurs when there is a lack of blood flow to the brain, which can result from a blockage from a blood clot or a ruptured blood vessel. Stroke during sex is rare, but it can still happen.
Who's at risk
- Aged people;
- people with a history of heart health problems;
- patients who have previously had a stroke.
Sudden severe dizziness that does not go away may be a warning sign of a stroke.
Other symptoms of stroke
- Paralysis of one side of the face;
- sudden uneven smile numbness or tingling, especially if it is only on one side of the body;
- inability to raise both arms to the same height;
- slurred speech;
- confusion;
- loss of consciousness.
A person who thinks they or someone else may be having a stroke should call 911 immediately. Timely treatment reduces the risk of serious complications and death.
How to effectively quench thirst after salty food
How to fight thirst quickly? Cool drinks that contain components that retain fluid in the body - organic acids and potassium salts - are very effective in this regard. Just drinking cold drinks in the heat is not recommended. Otherwise, instead of thirst, a cold or sore throat will overtake you.
- Nectars . Nectar is not a cheap version of juice. Good nectar is produced from fruits from which the juice cannot be completely extracted. We are talking about pears, peaches and apricots. The raw materials are initially pureed, and then diluted with water according to a special recipe.
- Juices
.
Only freshly squeezed juices help. Avoid using concentrates. - Morse

Slightly sweetened and diluted with water juice from berries. Raspberries, red currants, lingonberries, bird cherry and cranberries are used to make fruit juice. Modern fruit drinks are based on unfermented berry juice. In the old days, it was made from berry pulp, which, after boiling, was passed through a sieve and sugar was added. The result was a low-alcohol drink. - Kvass

The most popular tool for eliminating thirst. Some
When the human body lacks something, it lets you know about it. Liquid is especially important for its normal functioning. Doctors recommend that people drink enough water, since its lack will negatively affect the functioning of all systems and internal organs. Why do we sometimes feel an irresistible thirst for water and is such a desire considered normal?
Heart health problems
Dizziness after sex is usually rarely serious. However, sometimes it can be a sign of a heart health problem. These problems are more common in people with one or more of the following risk factors for heart disease.
- High blood pressure;
- obesity;
- history of heart health problems;
- family history of heart attack.
Other symptoms that indicate heart problems
- Chest pain;
- cardiopalmus;
- labored breathing;
- dizziness that lasts longer than a few minutes;
- dizziness after exercise;
- frequent dizziness.
Infectious diseases transmitted during intimacy
Many young women use contraceptives in pill form. These drugs can protect against unplanned pregnancy. However, they cannot protect the girl from infectious pathologies. Therefore, after defloration, some representatives of the fairer sex find themselves with a similar disease.
- 1Chlamydia.
- Herpes is genital.
- Syphilis.
- Thrush.
- Gonorrhea.
In such cases, critical days sometimes appear on time.
But at the same time they are accompanied by severe discomfort, the flow of a large amount of dark blood, which contains clots. In what situations can one suspect that a girl has been infected? Symptoms of STIs include:
- Atypical vaginal discharge. Their shade is white, yellowish, green. Most often these are smears of mucous or liquid consistency.
- The presence of a pungent odor in the genital area.
- The appearance of discomfort in the vagina.
- The presence of ulcers, blisters, and a white film on the surface of the genitals.
- Feeling weak, achy and feverish.
If such symptoms occur, you should contact a medical facility. It must be remembered that the most reliable way to avoid STIs is condom.
