Some people are interested in the very fact of communicating with animals, but I don’t just need to see a kangaroo, but to look and study how it has adapted to the fact that instead of a wild desert there are now full of roads, cars rush along them at terrible speed , there are hotels, motels all around... These are the changes that interest me.

— Isn’t it annoying that people on expeditions ask amateurish questions?

“They say that one person who knows little is able to ask so many questions that a hundred wise men will not have time to answer.” Therefore, this is interesting to me: I increase the level of knowledge of all the people traveling with me. I’m not going to travel with fellow scientists to discuss things during the trip. After all, I give lectures to my students - I’m not at all bored by the fact that they ask questions and are interested. — How often do you record your weekly show?

“Yesterday, after returning from Crimea, I came home at one in the morning, went to bed at three, got up at eight in the morning, and went to the recording at nine. Tomorrow I get up again at eight in the morning and leave for a 12-hour working day... — Your co-host, 14-year-old Lesha Lapin, is working with you on camera. Are you preparing your shift?

- Certainly! He is not just a co-host, we are already equals. I hope that over time Lesha will lead, and I will watch. He started working as a correspondent - he went to filming and did stories. The main thing is practice. Both his father and mother are television workers. His mother is the producer of our program, his father is the president of the Association of Popular Science and Educational Television.

- You have two daughters. One is a veterinarian by training, and the second is a biologist. Have your grandchildren followed in your footsteps? Do the boys want to become scientists, naturalists, like their grandfather?
