Opening of the 77th Venice Film Festival: Red carpet and special requirements

Alicia Keys

An exotic singer with a memorable repertoire, Alicia Keys abandoned decorative cosmetics, focusing on naturalness. The vocalist admits that from the second grade she followed the imposed beauty standards, tied her hair in a tight ponytail and strived for ideal body proportions.

However, over time, the celebrity realized that she was losing part of herself in the desire to conform to other people's ideas. Now the beauty does not want to hide her face and appears at social events in her natural appearance. “I hope this is the start of a revolution,” declares the protesting star.

Oscar 2020: how celebrities are preparing for the red carpet

Big night - serious preparations. Oscar 2019 is about to spark new movie stars, but this is an important event not only for the film industry, but also for fashion in general. Actresses, models, singers and other Oscar-winning celebrities will walk the red carpet and show off their outfits and flawless, polished bodies. Diets, workouts, microdermabrasion (diamond peeling), radio wave facelifts and much more - Vogue.ua knows how celebrities prepare for Oscar night.

Kate Bosworth, Oscar 2017

Preparation for the Oscars begins several months in advance - nutrition and training are tightened. Celebrity trainer Jason Walsh is one of the people behind the beauty, luxury and red carpet style industry. Among his clients right now are Alison Brie, Brie Larson and Sara Sampaio, who was preparing for the Victoria's Secret show (several of her workouts are in Walsh's pinned Instagram stories), and not so long ago - Emma Stone, Irina Shayk, Matt Damon and Mendy Moore. Ten years ago, his first client in Los Angeles was Jessica Biel, and during that time Walsh became a master at preparing stars for events of any rank. Therefore, he knows the slightest - and non-trivial - secrets that help you look like a millionaire on the carpet.

Jason Walsh with Brie Larson and Alison Brie

First, Walsh recommends that his clients eliminate alcohol several weeks before the event. Alcohol is fraught with edema: it dehydrates the body, which in turn retains water; the result is a puffy appearance.

Secondly, drink green tea: it has antioxidants and diuretic properties. The density of the body is caused by water retention in the body, and tea helps to partially get rid of it in a natural way (that is, without taking synthetics).

Third, do strength training: 30 minutes at high intensity. Calories are burned, excess water flows away.

And fourthly, lift weights: it is with it that you can achieve amazing results (and the desired relief in a few months).

Jennifer Lawrence at the 2018 Oscars

The power of fitness and dieting works well, but not always. A tight, fitted dress or a tight-fitting tuxedo – and that’s it, it’s as if there’s just a little bit missing from the ideal. To adjust the waist or other parts of the body, stars resort to tricks like slimming underwear - as stylists talk about. And the directors themselves, they say, don’t hide it either: Lee Daniels wore spandex underwear under his tailcoat.

Hellen Mirren, Oscar 2018

Christoph Waltz, Oscar 2010

Three to four months before the event, celebrities combine training with fat-burning procedures, such as CoolSculpting - cryolipassation of problem areas of the body: sides, stomach, arms, area above the knees. The vacuum sucks the skin, cools the fat to a temperature where it becomes unviable - and the body eventually metabolizes it permanently. Fans of CoolSculpting include Molly Sims, Kris Jenner and Khloe Kardashian.

A couple of weeks or days before the Oscars, celebrities begin working on their faces. Actress Keri Russell owes her glowing skin to Josephine Skriver and Devon Windsor's beloved dermatologist David Colbert and his Triad procedure, which combines microdermabrasion, laser tightening and chemical peels for flawlessly smooth skin.

Before the Golden Globes, Oscar nominee for Best Supporting Actress Regina King visited the famous Arcona salon procedure - Red Carpet Radiance Treatment, which is popular among stars year after year. Exfoliation, oxygen therapy, contouring facial massage and other additional steps for radiance and wrinkle reduction, selected individually, the procedure is considered an alternative to plastic surgery.

Regina King and Luke Evanswww.instagram.com/arconalosangeles

Esthetician Gina Marie provides her clients with microdermabrasion from head to toe, helping the skin to quickly renew and tighten. Also used are radio frequencies, ultrasound and, as a final step, the Envy Lightwave capsule in combination with a light infusion treatment procedure. Vitamins (C, E, etc.), peptides, hyaluronic and lactic acids and other complex compounds are applied to the entire body and then exposed to LEDs: the skin is illuminated with light, becomes young and beautiful. New standards in body care in action.

The famous journalist Julie Chang, who is preparing to interview on the backstage of the Oscars 2019, left Gina’s salon a day ago https://www.instagram.com/ginamariskincare/

Another "elite salon behind the scenes of the Oscars red carpet" is Tracie Martyn and his famous Tracie Martyn Red Carpet Facial. The salon proudly carries this banner and openly talks about its celebrity clients directly on its website blog: “When Brie Larson showed up at the Oscars on Sunday night, she did so with a twinkle in her eye and a glow on her face. While the honor of presenting the Best Actor award is enough to make anyone glow, her glowing skin and angelic complexion were actually the fruit of the efforts of Tracy Martin, who is known to rule the skincare rituals of Hollywood and New York. Ms. Martin gave Ms. Larson her iconic red carpet treatment just hours before the ceremony." Using acid peptide mist, salicylic acid, firming serums and exfoliating enzyme masks, combined with current treatment, amber LEDs and myrodermabrasion, this treatment provides instant results without redness or irritation: lifting the contours of the face, defining cheekbones and shaping a beautiful chin. Advanced technology and treatment Tracie Martyn is in demand not only among stars like Kate Winslet, but also among fashion audiences right before shows: Riccardo Tisci, Prabal Gurung, Diane von Furstenberg. Karlie Kloss just a few weeks ago underwent the RedSculpt Radiotightening procedure on the eve of New York Fashion Week, which combines red LED, radio frequency and soft heat waves.

Rosie-Huntington Whiteley visits the Shani Darden salon, where she spends 20 minutes wearing an LED mask. Naomi Campbell, Katy Perry, Hugh Jackman and Justin Timberlake are fans of Ole Henriksen's 80-minute treatment at Sunset Plaza Spa. This treatment combines microphototherapy, exfoliation, hydration, radiofrequency, oxygen masks - all done in eight stages - and gives you #1 red carpet readiness.

Jenna Dewan-Tatum prefers Triple Crown therapy from esthetician Joanna Vargas, who uses gentle electrical current to sculpt her face to de-puff, tone muscles, and tighten skin. After treatments, Vargas provides her clients with an exfoliating mask to sleep in the night before the event to even out pigmentation and get rid of breakouts.

Elisabeth Moss is another Vargas client with whom she is preparing for important eventswww.instagram.com/jvskincare

Do celebrities get injections, Botox, or invasive procedures? Without a doubt. But as Dr. Glenn Vallecillos tells E!News, "minimally invasive and superficial procedures with zero or minimal downtime are much more popular in the lead-up to events." This is because on the red carpet, celebrities want to literally shine: this is the most important requirement. But another expert in the field of invasive cosmetology, Lisa Goodman, owner of GoodSkin Los Angeles, clarifies in an interview with the Hollywood Reporter: although celebrities do not admit it and often even deny it, in fact, Botox is injected into everything, only in other parts of the body - from the knees to the chest . Today, Botox has “gone” beyond the face and moved to the neck to manipulate the muscles that are responsible for the beautiful oval of the face. The concept of “Botox for wrinkles” has evolved into the concept of “Botox for tightening.” Botox also helps to visually lose weight in the calves, stretch the neck, thereby improving posture, and smooth out the skin on the décolleté or knees.

Natalya Vodyanova

Russian model and philanthropist Natalia Vodianova prefers not to use decorative cosmetics in her everyday looks. Participants in events held by the Naked Heart Foundation often see the founder without makeup.

And in 2020, the mother of four children began to appear at social events in natural trends, focusing on outfits and complementing the image with careless curls.

What the stars looked like on their first red carpets

At the beginning of their “star journey,” these recognized beauties looked completely different. So young, naive, funny dressed...

In our selection, the first appearance of A-list stars on the red carpet:

Nicole Kidman (1989)

At the beginning of her career, Nicole Kidman practically did not use makeup and did nothing with her shock of small “fiery” curls. According to the actress herself, in her youth she considered herself an “ugly duckling.” Everything changed when the actress began appearing on the red carpet not alone, but in the company of handsome Tom Cruise.

Angelina Jolie (1990)

At the beginning of their careers, many Hollywood stars looked ridiculous and funny. But not Angelina Jolie. Despite the ridiculous outfits and strange hairstyles, this girl was always incredibly pretty.

Jennifer Aniston (1990)

Today, Jennifer Aniston is rightfully considered one of the most beautiful actresses in Hollywood. Now look what Jen looked like at the very beginning of her career. No signature hairstyle, no skillful makeup, and it’s better to keep silent about your clothing style.

Kirsten Dunst (1994)

After the tremendous success of the film Interview with the Vampire, Kirsten Dunst woke up as a real star. The actress took her first steps on the red carpet when she was only 13 years old.

Jennifer Lopez (1994)

Charming curls, eyebrows and brown lipstick, which was trendy in the 90s - this is how we remember Jennifer Lopez at the very beginning of her career.

Britney Spears (1999)

But Britney Spears felt great when she first appeared at a social event. A charming blonde with a chiseled figure and pretty features - it’s no wonder that millions immediately fell in love with her!

Christina Aguilera (1999)

Well, where would we be without Britney’s main “girlfriend” - singer Christina Aguilera! In the late 90s, the star preferred bright, memorable images: leopard print dresses, high platforms and rather tasteless makeup.

Scarlett Johansson (2001)

Today, her seductive curves, porcelain skin and plump lips make men's hearts beat faster. Scarlett Johansson is the muse of the brilliant Woody Allen, a talented actress and one of the most beautiful blondes in Hollywood.

Eva Longoria (2001)

At the beginning of her career, our favorite “desperate housewife” Eva Longoria didn’t bother much with makeup and hair. And why, if nature has already rewarded the actress with a bright and memorable appearance.

Kristen Stewart (2002)

Twilight fantasy star Kristen Stewart hit the red carpet before her co-star Robert Pattinson. Already in 2002, young Stewart showed herself at the premiere of the thriller “Panic Room”. They would never have recognized this homely teenager as a future movie star and the face of the house of Chanel.

Katy Perry (2004)

Comparing old photos of Katy Perry with recent ones, it seems that they are two different people. Yes, at the beginning of her career, Katy Perry looked, to put it mildly, boring. No makeup, unkempt hair and simple outfits.

Tilda Swinton

The presence of makeup on the face of the space-looking actress Tilda Swinton is more an exception to the rule than a pattern. The performer is included in the list of “Stars on the red carpet without makeup” for her beliefs, which she is not shy about broadcasting.

Tilda is sure that makeup makes a woman look different. Expressive hairstyles and eye-catching outfits help the artist stand out.

Ravshana Kurkova

The advantages of the Russian beauty Ravshana Kurkova include ideal skin, the freshness of which the star maintains with vitamin C and a balanced diet. For a celebrity with oriental notes, bright makeup is not typical both on the set and in everyday life.

But for special occasions, the artist prefers to apply translucent foundations and peach blush. Mascara, black lipstick and clear gloss or balm help the actress set accents. To complete the formal look, all that remains is to fix the styling with a transparent gel so that the image looks harmonious and without frills.

Oscar 2020: the best jewelry of stars on the red carpet

A couple of hours ago, the 92nd Academy Awards ceremony ended at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles. Let's leave the debate for a moment about whether the figurines were distributed fairly, and carefully study which jewels the stars chose for the main film award of the year.

Oscar 2020: the best jewelry of stars on the red carpet photo No. 1
Natalie Portman chose a Dior couture dress and cape for the ceremony, complementing the look with Cartier jewelry - rose gold earrings with diamonds and a ring with an impressive yellow Cartier diamond (although not as much as Lady Gaga's pendant at the last ceremony). A touching detail of the image is the names of female directors who did not receive Oscar nominations embroidered on the cape.

Oscar 2020: the best jewelry of stars on the red carpet photo No. 2
Director Greta Gerwig, whose “Little Women” took one statuette out of six nominations - for costume design, came in a khaki Dior dress. The main decoration of the look is the Bvlgari emerald set: a necklace with seven large stones, a cocktail ring and diamond earrings.

Oscar 2020: the best jewelry of stars on the red carpet photo No. 3
Charlize Theron, one of the nominees for the award for best actress, is faithful to her beloved Dior. The Tiffany & Co necklace added a festive touch to the rather strict black color. with a central marquise-cut diamond weighing over 21 carats. There are a total of 165 shining diamonds in the necklace, and its cost reaches 5 million dollars. The finishing touch to the look is diamond stud earrings and rings.

Oscar 2020: the best jewelry of stars on the red carpet photo No. 4
What we say “thank you” to the 92nd ceremony is that men are increasingly choosing jewelry for the red carpet. It looks like, as Gucci predicted at its latest men's show, toxic masculinity is indeed coming to an end. So Antonio Banderas picked up the trend - on the lapel of the Dior Men jacket, created by Kim Jones, a brooch in the shape of a galaxy of stars shone confidently. And on the actor’s hand was a Bvlgari Octo Finissimo watch.

Oscar 2020: the best jewelry of stars on the red carpet photo No. 5

The public's favorite Timothée Chalamet, whom Margot Robbie literally squeezed in at the press box (we sincerely envy her), came to the ceremony in an unusually modest look for him - a dark blue Prada suit with a bomber jacket. We were about to get upset when we suddenly noticed a 1955 Cartier brooch with rubies and diamonds in white gold and platinum.

Oscar 2020: the best jewelry of stars on the red carpet photo No. 6
Of course, we expected more from Billy Porter after his hat with closing rhinestone curtains at BAFTA, but gold feathers and Swarovski jewelry also suit him.

Oscar 2020: the best jewelry of stars on the red carpet photo No. 7
Salma Hayek looks beautiful as always - in snow-white Gucci and Boucheron jewelry. She chose a Feuilles de Laurier necklace in white gold with diamonds and pearls, wearing it as a tiara, the actress and producer paired it with earrings from the latest Paris collection, vu du 26 in white gold with diamonds and pearls and a Feuilles d'Acanthe bracelet in white gold with diamonds.

Oscar 2020: the best jewelry of stars on the red carpet photo No. 8
Regina King lives up to her name - she posed for photographers in a truly royal look: in a Versace dress and Harry Winston diamond bracelets and rings.

Oscar 2020: the best jewelry of stars on the red carpet photo No. 9
Let us praise Florence Pugh for her color match: a simply incredible color Louis Vuitton dress (something between the color of sea waves and a summer sky), a necklace from the high jewelry line of the French brand from the Riders of the Knight collection, emphasizing the color of her lips.

Oscar 2020: the best jewelry of stars on the red carpet photo No. 10
Margot Robbie is a real Chanel-girl in a luxurious dress with a tassel brooch.

Oscar 2020: the best jewelry of stars on the red carpet photo No. 11
Presenter Gal Gadot also preferred Tiffany & Co. jewelry: she wore a necklace with diamonds weighing more than 76 carats. The jewelry house created this jewelry for more than two years, most of which was spent searching for the best diamonds. One of them is a central oval diamond weighing over 11 carats. Gal Gadot accessorized her look with diamond earrings and a ring with a stone weighing over 9 carats.

Oscar 2020: the best jewelry of stars on the red carpet photo No. 12
Model and actress Camila Morrone, who accompanied Leonardo DiCaprio, shone in a Tiffany & Co necklace. from platinum. It was included in the spring 2020 collection of Extraordinary Tiffany High Jewelry.

Oscar 2020: the best jewelry of stars on the red carpet photo No. 13
Joker star and ceremony host Zazie Beetz also wore Bvlgari jewelry - two necklaces, earrings and rings with diamonds and emeralds (totaling almost 120 carats).

Oscar 2020: the best jewelry of stars on the red carpet photo No. 14
We believe that actress Brie Larson set herself the goal of outshine everyone with her brilliance - at the ceremony she wore a Celine dress made of shining fabric with a cape and Bvlgari jewelry: diamond earrings from the Diva's Dream high jewelry collection and the iconic Serpenti "snake rings".

Oscar 2020: the best jewelry of stars on the red carpet photo No. 15
Actress Mindy Kaling paired her bright yellow Dolce & Gabbana dress with an impressive diamond necklace and Chopard earrings.

Oscar 2020: the best jewelry of stars on the red carpet photo No. 16

British actress and singer Cynthia Erivo, who walked the red carpet in a dazzling Versace dress, is clearly not a supporter of jewelry minimalism - and we advise you to follow her example. The main thing is that the decorations match each other. Cynthia is wearing seven rings and several pairs of Piaget earrings: two rings with rotating elements from the Possession collection, a ring from the Golden Oasis collection with pavé diamonds and a 62-carat central stone, earrings with yellow diamonds and in the shape of beautiful roses. Our favorites are the rings in the shape of a lush rosebud on adjacent fingers (they contain more than 460 diamonds in total). Just look how impressive they look together.

Oscar 2020: the best jewelry of stars on the red carpet photo No. 17

The South Korean film "Parasite" scored an unprecedented victory at the Oscars, taking four statuettes, including best picture. The main actress of the film, Cho Ye-jeong, appeared at the press conference with the treasured figurine in her hands and wearing a precious Mimosa watch and Trame earrings made of white gold with diamonds from the Italian brand Damiani.

Actress and public figure Jane Fonda shone on the stage of the Dolby Theater, voicing the winner of the Best Picture nomination, wearing an Elie Saab dress and Pomellato jewelry - earrings and rings with diamond pavé.

Jennifer Lawrence

Hollywood actress Jennifer Lawrence has repeatedly been included in ratings of sexy actresses. However, the star is in no hurry to maintain this status 24/7.

“The Face of Dior” fundamentally maintains whiteness, refusing tanning and makeup in everyday life, which gives work to curious paparazzi and beauty analysts who evaluate the result of Photoshop in professional photographs.

The gossip surrounding the name does not bother the “Mockingjay,” who continues to appear in public without “war paint,” believing that beauty rituals are not so important.

Paulina Andreeva

Russian actress Paulina Andreeva often appears in public with her husband, Fyodor Bondarchuk. And then we see the beauty in memorable outfits and bright makeup.

And in the absence of her chosen one, Paulina can be seen in casual clothes and without makeup. In such a look, the performer could disappear into the crowd and go unnoticed, while the celebrity poses for photographers without embarrassment.

Katie Holmes

Actress and ex-lover of Tom Cruise Katie Holmes has acquired the habit of appearing in public with a “naked” face at the insistence of her husband. The Hollywood beauty was only allowed to wear lip gloss. After the divorce, Katie became free to use makeup as much as she saw fit.

But the habit of remaining modest in public remained. As a result, stars on the red carpet without makeup happily accept the sought-after performer into their ranks.

Share:

Like? And these?

How about Halle Berry?

How would you rate these outfits? Shame? Vulgarity? Tasteless and vulgar? This is the outfit of a prostitute, not a self-respecting woman, right?

Here in the Russian Federation, such outfits are very critically assessed. Confusion turns into outright aggression. Every time you read hundreds of negative comments. Thousands. And, of course, this is all very sad. These are all bad opinions.

Not that they are necessarily said by bad and evil people, no. We are just a little unenlightened in this sense, and here we see elementary ignorance. We just need to delve into it and understand: what, why and why. Then everything will be normal and there will be less dirt in evaluative comments. Fingers crossed.

Okay, let's start with the fact that the characteristic "dressing as a prostitute" is sexual objectification. One might even say a reference example. Which is no good and a very, very unpleasant thing. In principle, one of the reasons why stars choose such options is precisely the fight against objectification.

What is objectification? Normal attitude towards women in the Russian Federation. Kidding. This is when a woman (less often a man, but also quite common) is treated as an object that has given characteristics. In Russian, they also like to translate objectification as “objectification.” Which sounds terrible.

A woman is a sex object, this is an example of sexual objectification. A woman is a kind of object for sexual satisfaction. We know quite well what such an assessment leads to from harassment scandals. Men believe that any woman is a priori a potential sex partner for them, if only they put a little pressure on it. This, by the way, gives rise to another objectification: all women love a strong man’s hand.

The same thing happens with external signs. Woman = breasts + legs. Man = muscles + buttocks. Our general characteristics of a good/beautiful woman are long legs and well-shaped breasts. Or that a real man should have a toned torso and biceps.

It’s the same opera with the “outfit of a prostitute.” Short skirt and deep neckline = prostitute. Plus he still wants sex. That is, we immediately made both a characterization and an assessment. A negative assessment, because a prostitute is something bad. And all this is simply based on appearance.

Why is this so bad? First of all: this is a limitation. We decide for another person how he should look. We say: “There are good outfits and bad ones.” Moreover, this is not a “like/dislike” assessment. We are not discussing boring antique exits from the Oscars red carpet. Not 50 shades of beige. We evaluate who knows where and what is shorter. And at the output we get a direct characteristic with a negative coloration. Agree that there is a difference between: “I don’t like this dress - it’s so boring!” and “Ugh, she looks like a prostitute!”

It turns out that there are some outfits that are better not to wear, otherwise someone will think bad things about you. Short skirt = wants sex. And there is no option: she just likes her legs and the style of this skirt. We connect objectification and launch it into society: since she put on such an outfit, it means she wants sex and looks like a prostitute. And then the analogy is with a brothel, debauchery, and so on. And there's just a short skirt!

It is this limitation of our assessments that such star appearances are designed to combat. A woman’s body is her personal territory and we have no right to limit her in how much she wants to show herself (or hide, here we come to a separate big topic of wearing hijabs, etc., which we’ll talk about some other time) .

And the morality that dictates hiding your chest, legs and leading a dejected, humble lifestyle is an outdated model. This is the age-old oppression of women, limiting them in the manifestation of their naturalness.

There is nothing immoral about a woman's body. It is immoral to believe that a bare thigh is a call to debauchery, and not just a bare thigh. There is nothing immoral about not wearing underwear. There is nothing indecent about this. Unless we ourselves see a direct connection between: a naked female body = debauchery and sex. But then this is our internal problem, since we are in such a hurry to draw this idiotic analogy.

In the photo above: just naked female bodies. Not a call for sex. Not a call to debauchery. This is pure beauty and naturalness.

This is the message of such exits. Halle Berry says: “Stop seeing it as objectification and look at it as something natural. One of the forms of manifestation of female beauty and sexuality. No analogies with prostitution and debauchery. Stop being so spoiled. You may not like this outfit and it may be unacceptable for you, but this is my choice and I have the right to it. Just like other women, they have the right to be beyond your expectations and personal characteristics. Their skin may be dark in color, they may be plump, have pigment spots, or have congenital abnormalities. They may not have a man, not have a job, not have children. They can dress as they please. We shouldn't characterize them. We should not evaluate them according to any given criteria.”

It seems like such a simple and correct idea. But for some reason we need such a huge effort to realize it.
