Scared dog
The pet spent the beginning of its life on a farm where dogs were kept in terrible conditions only for the purpose of commercial breeding. Despite the fact that Nora was pregnant, she was kept on a chain, poorly fed and not cared for. Fortunately, the dog was rescued, as were the puppies, and they all ended up in a shelter. But after everything that happened, the dog suffered psychological trauma, and it was so strong that Nora withdrew into herself.
In her every movement one could read fear and distrust towards humans - the pet shrank into a ball and did not make contact with people. The dog's eyes expressed great melancholy and anxiety...
The volunteers understood that Nora needed a family that would help her become at least a little happier, and soon such people were found. The Spence couple and their children became the new owners of the dog. Parents with many children were looking for a companion for their dog Drake and had no idea that thanks to the little child, Nora’s character would completely change!
Is it safe to keep dogs during pregnancy?
Canine rabies and pregnancy
A dangerous disease that can be contracted from dogs is rabies, a viral infection characterized by the development of severe encephalitis (inflammation of the brain).
Routes of infection . The source of the virus is domestic animals - dogs (less often - cats).
An infected animal becomes violent and aggressive, rushing at a person for no reason and biting him. Characteristic symptoms of rabies in animals are fearfulness, drooling, and fear of hydrophobia. Infection of a person occurs when a bite or saliva gets on damaged skin. The rabies virus is not transmitted from humans.
Danger for pregnant women. This disease poses a great danger due to its extremely unfavorable prognosis (it is almost always fatal), so there is no data on how the rabies virus can affect the fetus.
Helminth infections and pregnancy
This is a fairly large group of diseases caused by parasitic worms - helminths.
Routes of infection. The source of infection for humans can be both dogs and cats, which become infected by eating raw meat and fish, as well as food on the ground. Helminth eggs are excreted in feces, landing on the animal’s fur, from where they can land on the hands of a person petting a dog or cat. Thus, helminthiasis is a typical case of the “dirty hands” disease.
Symptoms. They are quite diverse, as they depend on the type of pathogen, as well as on the characteristics of the pregnant woman’s body: allergic reactions may be observed, long-term body temperature (not rising above 37.40C), abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting, headaches, general weakness, anemia (decreased hemoglobin level in the blood).
Danger for pregnant women. Helminths do not penetrate the placental barrier, and therefore do not pose a direct threat to the fetus, but can have an adverse effect by disrupting the condition of the expectant mother, leading to the development of fetoplacental insufficiency - disruption of placental function and a decrease in oxygen supply to the fetus (for example, with anemia).
Listeriosis and pregnancy
In some cases, you can become infected with listeriosis from pets, an acute infectious natural focal disease.
Routes of infection. Listeriosis affects both domestic animals (cats, dogs, chickens, geese, guinea pigs, rabbits, goats, pigs, cattle) and wild ones. Human infection occurs through contact through the care of pets.
Symptoms. The disease begins acutely: headache, increased body temperature to high levels (more than 380C) with chills, general weakness, vomiting, diarrhea, and in some cases, a rash in the joint area. As the disease progresses, symptoms of damage to the central nervous system appear (severe headache, convulsions, paralysis), and listeria tonsillitis may develop (it is accompanied by sharp pain in the throat when swallowing).
Danger for pregnant women . Infection with listeriosis during pregnancy is especially unfavorable, as it leads to spontaneous miscarriage, intrauterine fetal death, premature birth, intrauterine infection of the fetus, and mental retardation in children. Children with congenital listeriosis are born in a serious condition, have adaptation disorders, symptoms of pneumonia, and cerebrovascular accidents.
Leptospirosis and pregnancy
An acute infectious disease characterized by a severe course with damage to the capillaries, liver, kidneys, etc.
Routes of infection. The source of infection can be both domestic dogs and wild animals (mice, rats, hedgehogs). A person becomes infected by drinking contaminated water or while caring for animals.
Danger for pregnant women. The disease is especially severe in pregnant women due to decreased immunity; it can lead to termination of pregnancy and death.
Treatment. Treatment in a hospital setting is necessary; in severe cases, patients are placed in the intensive care unit, and antibacterial and symptomatic therapy is carried out.
Little friend and ward
At first, the pet was very nervous, but the three children who were nearby tried to somehow support her. The older girl spent most of her time with the dog, and when she was distracted by toys, Nora fell asleep next to her, making it clear that she trusted her.
And soon Elizabeth (the mother of the family) noticed that the pet was most attached to baby Archie, who was the youngest child in the family. When the owner fed him, Nora immediately sat down next to him, and when the boy was put into bed, the dog lay down next to him, wrapped her paws around him and fell asleep! She became especially relaxed and calm around Archie, and her mood improved. For his part, the baby also felt peace: he did not cry or be capricious, since Nora had his attention all the time.
However, it was more than friendship. Nora acted like she was Archie's mom! She tried to be close, “calmed” the baby in her dog-like manner if he was nervous, and did not allow him to be sad alone. The dog protected the baby from everyone who seemed suspicious to her, so there was no need to worry about the boy’s safety.
Perhaps responsibility for a living creature helped the dog overcome his fears, and he stopped being afraid for himself, absorbed in “raising” his two-legged charge. One way or another, the pet changed and turned into a cheerful and playful dog.
Get a puppy
A small living miracle with a wet nose and big eyes. Many people in childhood dream of having a four-legged friend with whom they can walk and play, share all the hardships and joys.
Where to start getting a puppy and whether it should be a deeply conscious decision or not
The decision to get a puppy should be deliberate. A person is always responsible for the one he tames. A dog is not a toy, and you can’t just throw it out into the street. There is no prison sentence for such an act, but cruelty shown to a defenseless creature will negatively affect the fate of a person.
When buying a dog for your child, you need to be prepared for the fact that you will have to walk it every day. If you are ready to take on all the hassle and expenses of a new pet, then you can choose a puppy.
What kind of puppy to get in an apartment, for a home
You need to choose a pet that best suits your personality, size and needs.
Prayers
Dogs of hunting breeds need daily physical activity. They will need to be walked for a long time and not overfed. It is better not to get small breeds if there is a small child in the house, who may not calculate his strength and injure the dog during play. Dogs with long hair are not suitable for those who suffer from allergies.
It is better for older people to have indoor and decorative pets that do not require long walks and complex care: French bulldog, Chinese Crested, Pug, Toy Spaniel.
If the family is young and athletic, you can get a small hunting dog: a pointer, a hound or a greyhound. She will be a wonderful companion on hikes and travels.
What breed of puppy is best for a child to bring to a private home with children?
For a family with small children, it is better to get a medium-sized dog that will patiently endure children's pranks: a boxer, a bull terrier, an Irish setter.
For families with older children who will carefully handle small pets, Pomeranians, Chihuahuas, poodles, griffons, Japanese chins and Pekingese are suitable. If the family lives in a private house, you can get a larger breed that has a peaceful disposition and does not show aggression: St. Bernard, Labrador Retriever, Newfoundland or German Shepherd.
What kind of dog should I get to guard a private home at any time of the year?
A German Shepherd is perfect for guarding a private home. She is easy to train, has good protective qualities, and tolerates low air temperatures well.
The Giant Schnauzer is also distinguished by its unpretentiousness, devotion and courage. He guards the house well and loves children.
The Caucasian Shepherd has a developed guard reflex, is suspicious of strangers, and is a very strong and brave dog.
The Moscow Guard is a huge dog, an excellent guard that feels great in any frost thanks to its long coat.
Get a puppy if you work, have an old dog, an old cat, with an adult cat
The dog needs attention. If work takes up all your free time, is there any point in having a pet at all?
You can choose a small decorative indoor dog that does not require much time for walking, and can go to the litter box if necessary. Small dogs get along well with older dogs, cats and cats, especially if raised with them from childhood.
Pros and cons of getting a puppy during pregnancy and a kitten at the same time
It happens that a person dreams of a dog since childhood, but can only get one when he creates his own family. If this is the dog of his dreams, what's wrong with that? During pregnancy, you need to get a dog only with the consent of your spouse, because it is he who will have to care for the pet while you are in the maternity hospital and in the first months after the birth of the baby.
If you want to have a dog and a kitten at the same time during pregnancy, you may just be depressed. Have pity on the animals that you will not be able to pay enough attention to after the baby is born.
Get a boy or girl puppy
Some people, dreaming of a dog, immediately imagine what breed it will be, a boy or a girl. Others don't care at all. When choosing a puppy, you need to make sure that he likes you, and not just you. If you don’t want to bother with offspring in the future, it’s better to buy a boy puppy.

Hello, daughter!
Meanwhile, Nora’s puppies, who had managed to grow up, were taken from the shelter by other people. All the kids got good homes, and the volunteers were sincerely happy for them. But a few years later, Elizabeth received a call from the shelter: they were informed that Nora’s daughter had been returned! The fact is that the owners who “adopted” the dog moved to another country, and Remington (Remy), as the pet was called, found herself without a roof over her head.
At that moment, Drake, the dog for whom Nora was taken, went to the rainbow. And although there were two other dogs in the house, who were also adopted from the shelter, Elizabeth decided to give Remy a chance, especially since the pet turned out to be very similar to her mother!
Nora was so happy to see her new pet! Of course, she hardly remembered her puppy, but she expressed incredible delight at the fact that a large, active and playful dog appeared in the house, which was an exact copy of its four-legged mother.
The funny thing is that Remy also took a liking to little Archie! Now he and Nora began to take care of the baby and protect him. No matter what the boy did, his four-legged friends immediately joined in! Together they played, fooled around, played pranks, relaxed and were completely happy!
Since then, little Archie has grown noticeably, but, as before, the dogs are with him all the time. Games, walks, cute pranks, sleeping together - all this is an integral part of the life of these friends!
Myth or reality: can a person get pregnant from a dog?
It's no secret that many people are concerned about the question of whether a person can become pregnant from a dog or any other animal. We can only guess about the reasons for such questions, but nevertheless, in this article we will try to answer them.
Can a person get pregnant from a dog??
It is known that a woman’s pregnancy occurs after the fertilization of an egg by a man’s sperm. As a result, thanks to the interweaving of identical genotypes, an embryo is formed, which during nine months of intrauterine growth and development turns into a full-fledged human child. Genetics and physiologists emphasize that a woman’s pregnancy from any other living organism, including a dog, is impossible for the following reasons:
- a person’s genetic information is encoded in a set of 46 chromosomes, and in a dog – 78, which excludes a positive answer to the question of whether a person can become pregnant from a dog;
- The genetics of a dog carries with it the development of such organs and systems that
there is simply no person, so the embryo will not be able to fully develop; - no matter the size of the dog, its penis will not match the size of the woman’s genitals;
- In order to produce puppies, the male and female must remain in the so-called “lock” for some time, which is formed when the penis is compressed by the muscles of the bitch. During this process, fertilization of the egg occurs. In humans, such a process is not provided for by physiology, from which it follows that a dog will not even be able to fertilize a female egg;
- the reproductive cells of a woman and a dog differ in all respects (size, shape, chemical composition, etc.);
- A male dog will feel the call of the reproductive instinct only if he smells the secretion that occurs in a female dog when she is in heat. In all other cases, he lacks sexual excitability;
- the significant difference in the biorhythms of dogs and people will also play an important role when trying to fertilize.
As for artificial insemination, the essence of which is the transplantation of a human egg fertilized by a dog into a woman, pregnancy is also excluded due to the features listed above. In addition, the woman’s body will simply reject such an egg as a foreign body. But then another question arises: “Can a dog become pregnant from a person?” Definitely not! For the same reasons listed above. Comforting conclusions
Thus, the question of whether a person can get pregnant from a dog has found an answer. And if there is such information somewhere, you should not believe in it, since most often it is a figment of a sick imagination. Having carried out a huge number of experiments on transplantation and introduction of such “mutants”, even in laboratory conditions, experts received negative results, which indicates that such conception will not happen in living nature.
