Meryl Streep grew up in a large family. In addition to her, her pharmacist father and artist mother had two more sons. Meryl successfully mixed several nationalities: her mother has English and Irish roots, while her father gave the actress Dutch and Jewish roots. Streep spent her childhood in Bernadsville, a town in New Jersey.
The passion for art, instilled by her mother, determined her life path. First, the future actress received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Vassar College, and then a Master of Arts from Yale Drama School. It was at the drama school that her first experience of going on stage took place. The theater group at this educational institution staged a wide variety of performances, and as a result, Streep was able to try herself in different roles.
Having received all her diplomas, Meryl went into adulthood, to New York. It was in this big city that she began to establish herself as a professional actress. At first she tried herself in theatrical productions, many of them were very successful. Meryl also played in several Shakespeare plays, which were well received at the famous themed festival in New York.
