Select a pattern

How to wear tights

While black tights are a wardrobe staple, you don't always have to go for plain black tights. You can find a wide selection of tights in a variety of patterns, which can enhance the neutral component if you want to add a little more interest to your outfit.

When you decide to wear patterned tights, let them be the focal point of your look. Keep the rest of your clothing relatively neutral and don't try to mix other patterns with your outfit. If you've chosen a bright solid color for your tights, make sure you tie it in with the rest of your outfit by matching the color of your tights with the pattern color of other clothes you're wearing. Avoid mixing multiple bright solid colors in different parts of your outfit to avoid costume clustering.

Why don't women wear tights with the current variety?

The reason why women do not wear tights is due to many historical reasons. When black tights first began to appear in the USSR, and this was back in the 60s and 70s, they were considered so vulgar that it was more decent to appear in public places with bare legs than to wear them. And even though Audrey Hepburn appeared on screen in fishnet black tights, this did little to encourage old-school women to experiment.

Many women are wary of fantasy tights. From an aesthetic point of view, you can overdo it and be considered vulgar. The choice of classic tights is so large that without the help of a qualified seller and in the absence of your own taste, choosing suitable tights is simply unrealistic. If the tights are too shiny, then the legs, as one blogger puts it, will resemble “sausages in cellophane.” Legs in overly tight matte tights will evoke associations with a rag doll. How to be? A radical solution to the issue is to give up tights in favor of trousers.

Good trousers with a classic cut can be worn for years, unlike classic tights, which last on average a week or two, and besides, a skirt is also required.

Upsize

Oversized clothing can be cute in itself, but it can also look awkward and make you look shapeless. Plus, it can be difficult to work up the courage to go out in just a sweater, no matter how big it is.

The ideal solution to the problem of oversized clothing is tights. Pair tights with a giant T-shirt and knee-high boots, or with an oversized chunky knit sweater and booties. Tights will automatically make your oversized outfit look more put together and eliminate any sloppiness. Plus, they lengthen, slim and define the shape of your legs so you don't look shapeless.

Become a professional

How to wear tights

Don't count tights out of your everyday office look. Tights not only make you dress professional and add a professional touch to your outfit, but they also make sitting in cold office chairs in a short skirt much more comfortable. You can practically add tights to any professional outfit you already wear at work. It is important to remember that your gaze should be balanced so as not to look too straight up and down.

Add some balance to your look by pairing tights with a fitted, high-waisted skirt and loose-sleeve blouse. Or wear a boxy blazer over a fitted dress with tights underneath. As for shoes, tights can be combined with anything - from simple ballet flats to stilettos. Tights will automatically enhance your look and easily complement your look with semi-professional shoes.

Why are Italian stylists against

It is noteworthy that in Europe everything is completely different . For example, Italian women prefer bare legs to flesh-colored tights. And women in this country constantly practice such images at work.

That is why in the civilized world, skin-colored tights have become a real anti-trend .

Italians are against

Important! Stylists are an option, and they are worn exclusively by older ladies due to physiological characteristics. For example, to hide varicose veins, give the legs a smooth effect and “throw off” several years.

Women from different countries actively took up this idea. And for many years now, they have been enjoying freedom of action, even wearing strict business attire without tights.

A new trend has reached our country. Many ladies have already decided to go to work with bare legs and not be afraid to seem vulgar or lacking a sense of style .

Try textures

How to wear tights

Tights are available not only in one pattern, but also in a variety of textures. Textured tights often have cutouts in the nylon material that create patterns ranging from floral designs to images of cats or skulls.

The best thing about textured tights is that they are creative and unique, yet subtle. If you don't want to go all out with a pair of patterned tights with a thick geometric print, try textured tights instead. Typically, you can pair textured tights with many other patterns or colors without creating an overly busy look. However, if you want your tights to really stand out, try to keep the rest of your outfit fairly neutral. For a more subtle finish, wear textured tights under ripped jeans so that only a small portion of the pattern shows through.

What are compression stockings for?

After thirty years (and sometimes even earlier), spider veins appear on every second person’s legs. At first glance, this venous network does not bother you, so many do not pay attention to it and treat it as an aesthetic defect. But such reasoning is not correct. This is one of the first symptoms of varicose veins and it means that it’s time to visit a phlebologist. A conservative method of treating and preventing varicose veins is wearing compression stockings. Their direct purpose is to help the circulatory system work correctly. And you need to wear such underwear not only when venous disease has already been diagnosed, but also before the first symptoms appear. In this article we will tell you in detail why compression stockings are needed and what their principle of operation is.

How do compression stockings work?

The essence of stockings is graduated compression, i.e. they compress the leg in different places with a certain force. The maximum pressure in the ankle area is 100%. Slightly less, 70%, falls on the knee area. And in the thigh area the pressure is minimal - 30-40%. This gradation helps blood move from bottom to top through the venous system and, thus, normal blood circulation is restored. Depending on the degree of pressure applied, stockings are divided into classes. From the first - with the least compression, to the fourth - with the greatest. What stockings to wear in your case should be checked with a phlebologist. Depending on the degree of development of the disease, the veins need different amounts of help.

Who should wear compression stockings?

The most correct answer to this question would be - everyone. After all, absolutely everyone is at risk of developing varicose veins, and prevention is better than cure. For regular wear, there are compression stockings of the first compression class. They can be worn without a doctor's recommendation. Indications for the use of compression stockings with different degrees of pressure may be as follows:

  • chronic venous insufficiency;
  • swelling, pain and heaviness in the legs;
  • leg cramps;
  • spider veins, darkened and dilated veins;
  • excess weight;
  • pregnancy;
  • genetic predisposition to varicose veins.

Those who love high heels, as well as athletes, especially runners, should consider wearing compression stockings. The legs of both of them experience enormous stress, and the veins may not be able to cope. It would be a good idea to wear compression stockings on a long trip as well. In a car, train or plane, we have to sit in one position for a long time, because of this, blood stagnates in the legs and swelling forms. Based on the same principle, compression stockings are recommended for people with a sedentary lifestyle.

Compression stockings - benefits and harm

Wearing compression stockings makes your legs less tired during the day, and by the evening they don’t swell or hurt. The venous system works correctly, and this has a positive effect on overall well-being. And of course, the main benefit of compression stockings is reducing the risk of developing varicose veins, if you wear preventive stockings, or preventing the development of complications of the disease, if it already exists and you wear therapeutic knitwear. In some cases, compression stockings can cause harm. For example, if you choose the wrong stocking size. Knitwear of a smaller size can pinch the veins and do exactly the opposite: cause swelling and stagnation of blood in the vessels. Larger stockings simply will not have a therapeutic effect, which can also have a negative impact on the development of the disease. Wearing anti-varicose stockings is not recommended if there are direct contraindications. For example, in the presence of inflammatory diseases of the legs, cardiovascular insufficiency or arthritis of the joints of the lower extremities. Therefore, before using knitwear, you should consult your doctor.

Wear shorts.

If you want to create an urban chic look, pair tights with shorts. It may seem a little strange to wear tights and shorts in the same outfit, but this unusual combination actually adds an extra dimension to your look.

Try pairing high-waisted shorts with a curved hem, black tights, black boots and a cropped graphic tee. Lighter colored shorts usually look better with black tights than dark colored shorts. The light color of the shorts creates a contrast that adds harmony and interest to your look.

Fashionable tights of the 60s that Soviet women did not wear

Tights appeared only in the late 1950s, replacing stockings. In the 1960s, Twiggy's style conquered the whole world, creating the preconditions for the prosperity of fantasy tights.

Absolutely different tights have come into fashion: patterned, openwork, with drawings, dense colored...

But Soviet industry did not have time to respond to fashionable changes. However, this was not part of the tasks of light industry. Drawing attention to women's legs, making the external image prevail over the internal content did not fit into the concept that the external should be a reflection of the inner world. Chekhov's quote was the answer to this question: “Everything in a person should be beautiful: face, clothes, soul, and thoughts.”

The first synthetic tights in the USSR were supplied from Czechoslovakia. Then came Dederon tights from the GDR. Over time, the Brest factory mastered the production of polyamide tights. So, if one of the main reasons for the lack of tights in the wardrobe of Soviet women was their shortage, then over time this factor ceased to be decisive.

But, if transparent polyamide tights could still be obtained, fantasy tights still remained a rarity. Fashion in the USSR developed along its own path. It is believed that this led to the fact that, starting from the 90s, in the vastness of the former USSR, fashion remained behind the world for about 2 years.

In 1966, Rudi Gernreich, a fashion designer with a reputation as a bold experimenter, presented a collection of “Total Look” images, some of which were complemented by tights made with prints in the spirit of the entire collection, namely imitating animal skins.

Of course, Soviet women would not wear tights with giraffe, zebra, leopard or tiger prints. Thus, the rejection of unusual fantasy tights occurred not only because of their shortage, but also because of ideological principles.

In the late 60s, the fashion for women's trouser suits came, which relegated miniskirts and tights to the background.

The 60s became a legendary decade in fashion history. It was then that various styles were laid down, which are still developing and from time to time present us with another surprise. But it was then that women in many countries around the world were deprived of the opportunity to wear unusual tights. Paris, Milan, London and New York - only there fashion lived in its usual sense. There, women dressed up, choosing fancy or transparent tights to match their images.
