Scientists have been able to destroy the stereotype that women love sweets more than men. Studies have shown that the stronger sex experiences “sugar” addiction even more than the weaker sex. According to statistics, every second woman in the world has a passion for desserts, but at the same time, 3 out of 5 men honestly admit that they cannot deny themselves the pleasure of eating chocolate.
Why is it believed that women love sweets more than men?
The myth that the fair half of humanity is more susceptible to the temptation to overindulge in sweets arose due to the fact that women love to talk about food. And most of all about different delicacies.
They are concerned not only with the taste of the dishes, but also with the problem of calorie content. The excess cake has to be worked off in the gym. Every girl is afraid of gaining weight and tries not to eat a lot of sweets. But this is a painful question, which is why there is so much talk about this topic.
It's different for men. The fear of being overweight is not so common to them. Even psychologists advise eating sweets, because they are a kind of antidepressant. After a hard day at work, it is better to relieve stress with desserts rather than alcohol. Many men do this. But they don’t talk about it because they are embarrassed.
Strong and courageous people should not admit their weakness. So one gets the impression that they are indifferent to cakes and sweets. Although in reality this is not the case.
why girls love sweets
We were “lucky enough to visit” again :))) at the Theater in the South-West
For some reason, this sacramental phrase in bloggers’ reports terribly irritates everyone (including me:) I never use it, but I always want to blurt it out when I write about the Theater in the South-West!
Because we were LUCKY to be there. Every visit to this Theater is pure happiness! We like some performances there more, some less... but every time I am ANTICIPATED to the happiness and joy of meeting a place and people that I have already come to love with all my soul! This time we watched a play based on Jules Feiffer’s “Little Murders”
in…
…SMALL HALL
Theater:)))) We went to an art cafe for the first time to see a performance.
Well, we were in a cafe, naturally! A very cozy cafe, I must say - and the prices are quite reasonable, and the ice cream and fruit drinks are very tasty, and the coffee is excellent, I recommend it! :) And there is always live music and... intimate twilight :) Staging a performance in a cafe is an excellent solution for Theatre, because they don’t have a lot of footage :( I would like to note that staging plays in a small room is a talent! After all, it’s not enough to choose a production with a small number of participants, you still need to somehow put it all together on stage two-on-two- step, where there is no backstage at all - the actors come and go right through the rows of enthusiastic spectators :) The creators of this performance (I haven’t seen others there, so I can’t speak for them) managed to solve this problem brilliantly! Direction and set design - Maxim Lakomkin
Sound design -
Maria Ryzhkova
designer -
Anatoly Dokin
Now about the play “Little Murders” itself, of course :) Although the plot itself by Jules Feiffer is somewhat “retro” - the action takes place in America, in the 60s last century (and here in Russia approximately the same thing happened in the dashing 90s) But such a development of events is always relevant, at any time and in any place.
And it's scary. It's scary how the environment affects ordinary people. A “little” person, under certain circumstances, is easily capable of committing a “small” murder - when chaos is happening around, the most ordinary man grabs a weapon... As for the characters in the action, I felt infinitely sorry for all of them. And the “slow” photographer Alfred ( Denis Nagretdinov
), and the brave girl Patsy (
Veronika Sarkisova
), and Patsy’s parents - mother Marjorie (
Karina Dymont
) and father Carol (
Oleg Anishchenko
), and even the freak priest Henry (
Maxim Lakomkin
).
They are all unhappy people who simply don’t know how to live in this crazy, crazy, crazy world... They are scared. They are in pain. They are confused and lost. How painfully helpless Karina Dymont is in the role of a mother who has already lost her son! All her superficial bravado and sex appeal is just a cover for her confusion; she is trying to cover up her fear with it. And she becomes a complete “lost” in the end, when she also loses her daughter. A pathetic, disheveled “lost”... And Patsy! A strong, determined Patsy who resists both fear and the system that causes it. I was surprised to read in one of the reviews that Patsy “strives to marry absolutely any guy, as long as he agrees.” It seems to me that the emotionally strong Patsy was first attracted to the cold, emotionless Alfred. But then she decides that her love is enough to stir Alfred up. And she did it. True, only after the absurd death of Patsy did emotions awaken in Alfred... but not the ones that Patsy was counting on. The two female roles are simply brilliantly played, BRAVO! Men are also convincing, of course:) And Alfred is cold as a fish. And the temperamental Carol. And the over-tolerant priest-freak Henry. ... but still, the FEMALE characters personally impressed me more :) Well, about the production. Two chairs, newsreels on the blinds, blue spotlights and Elvis Presley’s tender song “Love me tender, love me sweet, never let me go...” - that’s all the “visualization tools” that the Theater used... and it works in the South-West often more powerful and effective than the intricate scenery and dressed-up extras on the huge stage of the Bolshoi:) other theaters! *photo from the theater website
Why neither men nor women should eat more sweets than normal
The daily requirement of sugar for a person is 12 teaspoons. But it has long been proven that most people regularly eat more than normal. If we consider that sugar is contained in juices, fruits, and ready-made dishes, then the figure can be several times higher. The main threat from “abuse” of sweets is diabetes. Many people on earth suffer from it today.
For men, the pitfalls of sweets are, first of all, addiction. It is in them that it occurs earlier and is more common than in women. From such a diet, the stronger sex suffers from a decrease in the level of the hormone testosterone, which entails problems with potency.
Scientists agree that sugar, over time and in large quantities, changes men's appearance and they acquire feminine characteristics. Even against an emotional background, they become more sensitive and sentimental.
Glucose - food for the brain
How does all of this relate to cravings for sweets?
The brain and nervous system are very sensitive to blood glucose levels. Normal glucose levels ensure a good, even mood and high performance. When glucose levels rise significantly, drowsiness appears, when they fall, weakness and nervousness appear.
So, for good health you need a stable sugar level
in blood. And if your diet does not contain enough complex carbohydrates that provide it, you will feel hungry and want to eat sweets.
The famous advertising slogan “Don’t slow down - go snickers!” Absolutely correctly reflected the essence of the problem. You lack energy (read: glucose), reactions slow down, your mood worsens, your thoughts are inhibited. Our body already knows very well (we taught it ourselves) that the fastest way to increase energy levels is to eat something sweet.
And the more your work involves mental stress, the stronger the craving for sweets. It is no coincidence, by the way, that advertising for chocolate bars is aimed at young people. During sessions and school exams, constant “recharging” in the form of carbohydrates is required, and most often the choice falls on affordable and sweet foods such as chocolates and sweet sodas.
Sweet tooths are pessimists
Increased sugar consumption in men, unlike women, is inherent in genes and indicates the individual’s commitment to certain mental disorders. Psychologists from University College London found this out. British researchers from 1985 to 1988 regularly tested and carried out blood tests on five thousand men and two thousand women who were in public service. The scientists were interested in the connection between the amount and frequency of sweet foods consumed by respondents and indicators of their mental states. Psychologists have found that, unlike women, men who often and heavily consume sweets have a certain gene - TAS2R38. Representatives of the stronger sex ate more sugar from childhood, and the first psychological breakdowns in their lives were also recorded in the first decade of their lives. A team of British researchers found an "increased likelihood" of sugar addiction in men with a tendency to have a pessimistic view of the world and frequent depression. Moreover, the risk of developing the most severe psychological conditions in men with a sweet tooth reaches a critical level after five years of constant addiction to sweets and retains the general “adverse effect” if the person does not begin to reduce the consumption of sugars. Heavy doses of sweets correlate with severe depression, from which men try to get out by eating their favorite product. But this is a “vicious circle” that can only be broken by completely giving up sweets.
The man eats a lot of sweets.
My boyfriend and I have been living together for 2 months, before that we dated for a year. I have always noticed that he eats a lot of sweets, he can buy a huge bag of sweets, which would be enough for me to stretch out for a week, and in 2 tea parties he will become smarter. If I ask, he can leave me some sweets, but if he wants to drink tea, but there is no sweets and only my sweets, which I don’t want at the moment, he eats them, he says, “It’s always been our custom, everything that is left is It’s eaten right away.” Honestly, I’m very offended, does he really care so much that I also want tea and sweets? Like, I’ll get by, it’s my own fault that I don’t eat right away. I understand that the topic may seem absurd to you, but it’s boiling over. I stopped buying sweets for tea myself. I’ll buy a chocolate bar, and in the end, by the time I give him one strip of three squares, he’ll have already swept away half the chocolate bar, and in the end, a small part is always left for me. A bag of cookies - he eats freely in one tea. Also waffles and buns in large quantities - in one sitting. Although the guy himself is of a slender build. I don’t know what to do anymore? Should I make my own stash? While he is away, or while he is at work, I quietly eat what I buy. I do not need much. One chocolate bar will last me 2 days. Or is this wrong? He doesn't hide anything from me. I'm not greedy at all, but I don't get anything just because I can't eat an elephant's portion at one time. Maybe someone had something similar?

Lord, let him eat, since a person loves sweets
Sweet tooths are potential alcoholics
Men who are very fond of sweets are most likely to be alcoholic. These conclusions were made by scientists from Indiana University School of Medicine, USA. Using functional magnetic resonance imaging, American doctors studied the brain reactions of people to the consumption of confectionery, sweet and alcoholic drinks. For the experiment, scientists selected fourteen men and seven women, aged from 21 to 26 years old and in good health. Doctors performed taste tests on each of them - checking their brain reactions to eating confectionery desserts, sweet and strong alcoholic drinks. The researchers also received verbal data from volunteers about the subjects’ addictions – the amount of sweets eaten per day, the amount of sugar water they drank, and the overall frequency of alcohol consumption. Using functional magnetic resonance imaging, American scientists found that the brain’s reaction to drinking alcohol and drinking anything sweet is exactly the same. It is obvious that alcoholism is associated with the orbitofrontal region of the brain, which is also responsible for the reaction to any sweet taste. Analysis of the functioning of this part of the brain can serve as a marker of an increased risk of alcohol dependence. In addition, American doctors have found that even people without a clear tendency towards alcoholism, but who have blood relatives in their family history who suffered from this disease, also prefer sweet foods. In addition, men from among the subjects who stated that they hardly drink alcohol, in their subjective assessments, noted sweet water as the most preferable, which they consume every time at all dinner parties and parties and at the same time feel comfortable with all the other participants in the fun.

Sweet tooths lack love, meat eaters lack success
Writer and nutritionist Ekaterina Mirimanova studied thousands of overweight people and made interesting conclusions about the direct connection between mood and figure.
Text: Svetlana Berezkina August 26, 2020
“At my seminars on eating behavior, people fill out detailed questionnaires about how this picture is formed,” says Ekaterina. “There is such a thing as compulsive foods, when you are constantly drawn to something uncontrollably. Pay attention to what exactly, pay attention to the body’s needs, it is a sensitive device and signals many things. Of course, there are exceptions to every rule, but, according to my observations, the conclusions are 98% correct.
So, what does it mean if you are missing a product?
Chocolate. There are few sensual pleasures - delicious food, relaxation, massage, sex. This product promotes the production of serotonin, the happiness hormone. And chocolate lovers replace all other joys of life with it - this is the easiest way.
Potatoes, bread and flour products. There is not enough money and prosperity. Remember, in Soviet canteens there was a slogan: “Bread is the head of everything”? Apparently, this is imprinted in the subconscious of people. And indeed, if there is no money, then there is no bread either. There is also an inverse relationship - as soon as a person starts earning more, he begins to eat less flour products.
Cheese, cottage cheese, yogurt and other dairy products. Problems in relationships with parents. In the mass subconscious, milk is associated with the mother, and the body’s need to consume milk indicates a desire to fill some difficulties or gaps in relations with the older generation.
Meat (not sausage! ) Lack of stability, a person lacks confidence in the future, he does not see the possibility of growth and development. In ancient times, among cave hunters, getting meat meant success, moving forward and continuing life. Now, if we are uncontrollably drawn to eat a steak, it is our genetic memory that reminds us that it would be nice to find some ground under our feet.
Butter and other fatty foods. Lack of diversity, dominance of gray everyday life. For those who love fatty foods, everything in life may be stable, but very boring and predictable. It’s as if they want to dilute the frozen situation with the slippery texture of the product and provide themselves with the desired changes.
Cakes, candies and other sweets. Lack of love and affection. Moreover, a woman with a sweet tooth may be married, but feel unloved. When I was with my first husband, I consumed sweets in wild quantities. Psychological explanation for this phenomenon: sweet food takes us back to childhood, where we received love and affection in unlimited quantities.
Olives, chips and everything salty. Loss of life guidelines, sometimes on a physical level, loss of vitality. This happens, for example, when moving to another city or changing jobs. There is a rethinking of life values. For example, doctors advise eating salty foods when you lose strength - it instantly increases blood pressure and, as it were, mobilizes the body.
Pepper and other spicy foods. Lack of impressions. Fans of spices want to add some “pepper” to their lives—in other words, a thrill.
Fruits and berries. Apathy, loss of interest in life. When people consume them in large quantities, they need to be recharged with vital force, which is currently in short supply.
If you or your loved ones have discovered an obsessive craving for the listed products, don’t worry and just know: any problem can be solved not by overeating, but by other, less destructive methods for your figure. For example, add daily joy: sports activities, walks in the fresh air, meetings with pleasant people, new experiences - in the form of a trip to an exhibition or a trip to another city. It's simple to do but provides a rush of endorphins that will make you happier without the cakes and chocolates.
How many hours ago did you eat?
In real life the situation looks like this:
1. Breakfast
either missed or very light (sandwich/cottage cheese). By 11-12 o'clock you still don't want to have lunch, but you're already craving something sweet. This is a sign that your blood sugar level has dropped, your brain needs food, and it begins to “blackmail” you - that is, demand glucose at any cost.
2. Dinner
- soup or vegetable stew. After 2-3 hours - again the same story - you want to have a snack. There are basically few calories, as well as carbohydrates, in these dishes, so a light lunch is a direct path to overeating for dinner.
3. You decide to lose weight
and gave up bread and pasta. After this decision, the craving for sweets increased significantly. This means that the nervous system does not have enough carbohydrates. You can endure it with all your might and then break down, but it is better to replace white flour products with brown rice and whole grain bread.
