The TV show “Dancing with the Stars” made choreographer Evgeniy Papunaishvili popular. Over the years, he performed with Natasha Koroleva, Yulia Savicheva, Albina Dzhanabaeva, Tatyana Bulanova and others who were quite popular. And every time everyone enthusiastically repeated: “Anyone will dance next to Zhenya!” In the new season, Evgeny goes on the floor with TV presenter Maria Ivakova, the partner of actor Nikita Efremov. Nikita is not jealous. After all, Papunaishvili shows with all his appearance that he is happy in his marriage and adores his daughter. Meanwhile, the graceful dancer was credited with having affairs with men for many years.
Papunaishvili was born in Moscow into a family of engineers. Mom is Russian, dad is Georgian from sunny Batumi. Evgeniy became interested in dancing at the age of five, but was terribly shy about it and hid his passion from his friends. Moreover, Zhenya’s older brothers had much more brutal hobbies: football and boxing. To divert attention, Evgeniy also started running with a leather ball. And at the age of 11 he began to earn his first money: he washed floors in a sporting goods store.
At the age of 14, the guy wanted to try himself as a dance teacher. I walked around the area and posted advertisements for recruitment into the group. And you can imagine - I typed it.
“I made good money from this business,” recalls Evgeniy. — At the school buffet I could afford to treat the girls of the whole school. My pockets were bristling with bills. Cupcakes please. Buns please. Compote is easy.
He stopped hiding from his peers that he was participating in waltz competitions, and tried to ignore the jokes that “only girls or fagots wriggle on the floor.”
— There were a huge number of fights over this. “I was greatly offended,” the dancer admitted. - But still the tail is a pistol. Of course, you get burned, of course, your armor grows.
After school, Papunaishvili entered the Faculty of Management at the Automobile and Highway Institute. There was no other option: my mother, brothers and uncle graduated from the same university, and my grandmother was involved in its construction.
At the institute, Zhenya met his first great love. But the relationship did not last long.
“Her parents said: “What is this, a dancer? What's the future with him? Is he going to dance like this all his life?” - says Evgeniy. - How much I cried from resentment then...

After graduating from MADI, Papunaishvili decided to quit dancing. This activity did not bring in much money. But I wanted an apartment, a car and for the woman I loved to be happy with everything. And the brothers said that if anything happened they would always help with work.
However, at the last moment, Zhenya was invited to the first season of the show “Dancing with the Stars”. After the first episode, our hero finally realized: he couldn’t live without dancing. But as soon as Papunaishvili’s name thundered throughout the country, dirty rumors began to spread. They wrote on the forums that Evgeniy allegedly offends his partners in a TV project if, for example, they are late for a rehearsal.
“The only time I hit a woman, or rather a girl, was in kindergarten!” - the dancer is indignant in response. “She bit me all the time.” Maybe it was her way of showing sympathy. But I didn't like it, and I broke her nose.
Then they started chatting that he was a drug addict and gay.
— To say that I’m a junkie just because I spend about 12 hours training and for some reason don’t drop dead is nonsense! — the choreographer explained in OK magazine. “Even as a child, I was torn into molecules, and my trainers did not know how to curb me. It is very disappointing when such a condition is explained by the use of something psychotropic. But I have never tried drugs in my life and I can’t even imagine how it happens. But I really do have a flaw - I’m quick-tempered. I explode because of injustice or rudeness: my curtains are closing, and I simply need to curb my inner hack that is awakening in me. Yes, and about the gay it’s offensive. One day I had a big fight with my mother. He convinced me: “You can’t react to everything that is written about me. Otherwise, neither my nor your nerves will be enough.”

On Tuesday, Evgeniy Papunaishvili married his beloved Salima. The newlyweds registered their relationship in one of the Moscow registry offices. The choreographer did not tell anyone in advance that they were planning to get married, although the couples they knew were looking forward to this moment. Papunaishvili proposed marriage to his beloved in May of this year during a break in a football match. As the groom said, they deliberately did not tell everyone about the wedding, including their parents.

“It was a special day for us. The two of us arrived at the registry office and signed. Nobody knew about this. Only my older brothers arrived. Then we made a surprise. We went to my parents’ dacha, they didn’t suspect anything, for them it was a great gift. We had an amazing time. There will be a celebration later. We want to have a wedding, invite relatives and friends in advance. It will be such an Italian-Georgian holiday,” Evgeniy said on Instagram.

For the celebration, the groom chose a classic suit, and the bright accents in his look were a scarf in his breast pocket and a tie. Salima appeared on the threshold of the registry office in a white set with lace decor and colored sandals. The girl's wedding outfit was complemented by a white jacket. “I saw it and was stunned,” Papunaishvili captioned one of the photos. The dancer's followers admire their couple. “How cool you are! I wish you with all my heart: be happy”, “Wedding dudes”, “May your happiness be endless!”, “Congratulations with all my heart! The day before, the happy couple went on their honeymoon. Papunaishvili and his newly-made wife chose a holiday in Greece on the island of Rhodes. “Absolute pleasure from everything! An amazing hotel,” the dancer shared his impressions, posting pictures with exotic dishes. Let us remember that Evgeniy and Salima dated for a little over a year before going to the registry office. For the sake of his beloved, the choreographer had to partially learn Italian, and his chosen one had to master difficult Russian words. Eugene’s parents immediately liked the girl, so they expected that the couple would soon formalize their relationship. Mom and dad Papunaishvili have been asking him for grandchildren for a long time.

Evgeniy Papunaishvili: “It’s very difficult to leave your wife and daughter alone”
On February 8, a new season of the show “The Last Hero” starts on TV-3. Spectators against the stars" with host Yana Troyanova. This time, famous media personalities will be confronted by a team of ordinary spectators, selected based on the results of an all-Russian casting from more than 4,000 applicants. Two teams of 8 people each will go to uninhabited islands in the Philippines. Far from family and friends, deprived of even minimal comfort, without phones, combs, beds and mirrors. For 39 days, program participants will survive, get their own food and get rid of the weakest or, conversely, dangerous tribesmen in the fight for the title of the last hero. Choreographer, head of his own network of dance schools, regular participant and member of the jury of the largest dance shows, Evgeniy Papunaishvili, these days is fighting for survival in the show “The Last Hero. Spectators against the stars" on TV-3. Once upon a time, the dancer’s name flashed in the glossy in connection with his numerous affairs with the most brilliant society ladies, including Ksenia Sobchak. Today Evgeniy is an exemplary family man: his young Italian wife Salima and daughter Sofia, who recently turned two years old, remain at home. And as Evgeniy himself admitted in an exclusive interview with Sobaka.ru, he had never been away from them for so long.
— What drew you to “The Last Hero” in the first place?
I'm a crazy dude. It seems to me that in Russia I hold the record for the number of projects in which I participated as a player or as a jury member. I like to try something new, and this project is very unusual and special. I don’t want to say trivial things about the fact that I wanted to go there as soon as I started watching it, but I know for sure that if I had refused, I would have regretted it later - I really appreciate that life provides me with such opportunities. I have achieved a lot through perseverance and work, and I am very interested in whether I will succeed this time too.
And it also seems to me that participation in this show is more like a “detox” - a break from phones and all other communications. For me, this is one of the most difficult tests: given our rhythm of life, it is very difficult to stay outside the network coverage area even for a while.
— Have you ever fasted before or at least denied yourself food?
No, absolutely not! I dance every day for many hours. I have a lot of projects and events, so I eat differently, but I eat a lot and tasty, and I never follow any special diets. Food for me is one of the main pleasures in life, so I don’t even know how my body will manifest itself on the island. My love of smoking could also be a problem. Although I once bet a large sum of money and quit smoking in one day. When the agreed period - 3 months - ended, I started smoking again, counting the money (laughs). Here the question is, you know: you need to say “chick” to yourself - that’s all!
—Have you found yourself in any other extreme circumstances?
Never in these. But there were situations in which it was necessary to quickly adapt to harsh circumstances - for example, during training camps at the institute. I remember such clean, well-groomed students arrived somewhere out of town in tents, without a shower, without normal food... It was a shock! But it took literally 1-2) days to get used to it. I’m basically like that – I know how to adapt. When my parents and I built a house in the country, we spent the night in a field with a tent or just in the hay, cooked over a fire, there were no amenities - and that’s fine! I'm ready for this kind of test!
But it seems to me that none of the participants fully understands or imagines what awaits us, and the picture cannot convey all the charm and all the horror of what is to come. They say this show drops its masks very quickly. So: I definitely have nothing to lose. Maybe this is my advantage, because I don’t have any image - I am who I am and I can’t live any other way. I am very active and emotional - and this is my defense against fatigue. And when I'm tired, I try to be even more active to support myself.
— You really give the impression of a very energetic and passionate person. Is winning the show also important to you?
Certainly! There is only one place for me - the first! Everything else is of no interest to me. It seems to me that when taking part in any competition or project, you should always think about first place and strive for it. I have a big family, I love them all very much, and therefore I will win for their sake.
But the main thing is to remain human and in no case overstep your principles. This project often shows how people compromise their principles, and in my opinion it doesn't look very cool. On the other hand, “judge not, lest ye be judged” is a game, so let’s play it!
— How did your family react to your departure?
Mom was categorically against it. Usually she supports me in all projects, but here she immediately began to dissuade me - it’s too dangerous! And my wife, surprisingly, immediately supported me, despite the fact that we are very close to each other and it’s hard for us to part. It probably played a role that she comes from Italy, and there it is one of the most popular projects on television: big ratings, many superstars among the participants... But it’s still very difficult for me to leave her here alone. Even though I have friends in Moscow, I will worry. I know it will be hard. Mentally, I had already prepared for separation, but suddenly on the second day I would feel sad and cry?! But even then I will not retreat, I will not give up and I will not ask to go home, because this is my job and my test that I must pass. And everyone in my family understands this.

— How do you prepare for your trip to the island?
I’m watching the previous season of the show “The Last Hero. Actors versus psychics” so that it wouldn’t be so difficult. I liked the challenges: they were challenging and interesting at the same time. I paid attention to various nuances - what and how to go through, but I realized that a lot still depends on chance. In a stressful situation, the brain can work very unexpectedly - show miracles of ingenuity or, conversely, become dull in a simple task. This has its own adrenaline and excitement. And personally, I am ready to make it interesting for the viewer to watch this show - I am not afraid of being ridiculous, funny or dirty.
FORMAT
“The Last Hero” is the Russian version of the world-famous format, also known as Expedition Robinson and Survivor. This show provides an opportunity to see modern man in primitive conditions that awaken ancient survival instincts in him. In Russia, the show first appeared on screens in 2001 on Channel One, and its host was Sergei Bodrov Jr.
In 2020, the show “The Last Hero” was relaunched on the TV-3 channel and, at the end of the season, was awarded the TEFI Award as the best reality show. "Last Hero. Actors vs. Psychics” started on March 2, 2020 and became the most popular evening prime time program with ratings three times higher than the average share of TV-3. At the end of the season, “The Last Hero” became the most successful self-produced show in the entire 25-year history of the channel.

There was no lavish wedding. The young people quietly signed their names and shared such a significant event with loved ones – Evgeniy’s parents and brothers. The bride's family really liked her. Salima, who came to our country for only one year, extended her contract for another two years for the sake of her beloved. The couple spent their honeymoon in Greece.
A bright family event was the birth of the first child. A loving wife gave her husband a gift on his birthday - daughter Sofia. The new parents are immensely happy, and dad tries to spend all his free time with his beloved wife and daughter.
