Baby cradle for newborns: types, design and selection rules

The birth of a baby is perhaps the most important event in the life of his parents, for which they carefully prepare. Particularly important is the early and deliberate choice of furniture for a newborn, the main item of which is a sleeping place. After all, sleeping with your parents is not only not convenient, but also not safe.

Photo of a children's wicker cradle

The second most popular bed after the classic crib is the cradle.

Advantages of a cradle over a crib

The original cradle has a number of advantages over the classic crib:

  • Convenient runners that allow you to swing the cradle in one direction. It can also be a cradle for newborns on wheels, which makes it easy to move the crib if necessary.
  • The ability to install musical and light structures designed for the development of the child.
  • Electric rocking cradles for newborns allow parents to free up their hands and do other things.
  • Any cradle model is quite compact and does not take up much free space. The advantage is the ability to place the crib as conveniently as possible in the children's bedroom by organizing an area for changing and a developmental mat.

The design of the cradle is designed in such a way that the baby falls asleep smoothly and calmly while rocking. Psychologists and specialists in child physiology have proven that uniform rocking helps to lull the baby, his timely growth and development, and the optimal development of neuropsychic development.

A cradle for a baby is a necessary thing in the first months of a little person’s life. Motion sickness helps him quickly adapt to new living conditions, calms the nervous system, improves sleep and promotes correct posture. Of course, this is an additional expense for the family, but saving on the child’s health is not recommended. A correctly chosen cradle will serve you for a long time and will be useful at the birth of your next child.

Disadvantages of using a cradle

Despite all the advantages of using a cradle, this design is not without its disadvantages:

  • High cost for modern models.
  • The need to carefully monitor the condition of the grooves, runners and fasteners.
  • A cradle for newborns has limited use due to the rapid growth of infants.

A significant disadvantage for simple cradle models is the need to constantly rock the cradle manually.

The cradle is a miracle from time immemorial, created with love for the sweetest dreams of a baby.

And a hundred years, and many centuries ago, a mother sat by the crib and sang to her beloved baby.

The centuries-old history of children's cradles contains a colossal layer of folk culture and beliefs.

It can be said without exaggeration that all of Russia emerged from cradles, ripples, pegs, rocking chairs, cradles, wicker or hollowed out, suspended or “vanek-stands”.

All of them, so different in execution and appearance, had a common purpose - nurturing the growing little man.

Many nationalities had an ancient belief: it was forbidden to break, burn or lengthen the cradle, as this could shorten the baby’s life.

Each family had its own lucky cradle, and if it didn’t already exist, it was made with prayers and love. And then it was passed on from generation to generation: as soon as it gave way to the newborn.

The shaky frame, made of durable wood, could last 200 years. The year of birth of the child was written on it; such inscriptions can be found on up to six or more museum exhibits. If funds allowed, the shaky stuff was ordered from a good craftsman with a kind heart. He created the cradle with skill and blessing.

Poorer people made cradles themselves. If the family wanted to have many children, then the husband went into the forest and looked for a tree there that was worthy of becoming a cradle for the successors of his family.

The material for the future shaky was chosen responsibly:

it shouldn't have been aspen. It was believed that this tree attracted evil spirits and that a child in such a cradle would die. They used reeds and splints. Bast ripples from the 11th century were found in Novgorod, which indicates the durability of this material. They also used pine shingles and linden bark.

Mothers prepared the canopy for unsteadiness, which was also a very important point:

the canopy protected not only from mosquitoes, flies and light, but also from evil forces. The fabric was selected beautifully or hand-embroidered and trimmed with lace. In a poor family, grandma's old sundress could become the canopy.

Straw was spread at the bottom of the shaky ground and covered with rags or old clothes. In rich families, a feather bed for a baby was made, stuffed with swan's down.

Various bright things were attached to the float - multi-colored scraps of fabric, painted spoons. Small icons and crosses were placed inside.

For poor peasants, a dried bull's bladder with grain inside could serve as a rattle. This rattle made soft sounds and did not rattle. The nipple was made from a cow's horn, and the cow's nipple was pulled over it. Another version of the pacifier: bread soaked in sweet water was wrapped in a cloth.

Only in flight does a person grow

The main advantage of cradles and wobbly cradles was the ability to hang them not only in the house, but also in the field and forest. In Siberia, the expression “raising children on a birch tree”

, which means in a suspended cradle.

There was a shaky thing hanging behind the flood, in the back of the hut. A ring was firmly driven into the matrix (a log that serves as a support for the ceiling boards), to which a pitcher was attached - a turn of strong thick wire. An unsteady thing was suspended from a coil: ropes extended from its corners, converging at a certain height into a loop, which was put on the lower hook of the spring.

Such a simple system ensured that the cradle rocked when a special strap was pulled down by hand or foot.

Controlling the shaky boat, or “steering,” as people said, was a whole art: with sudden movements of the new guy, the shaky thing would jump sharply, and the child could fly out. The jock, who nursed several generations of children, ensured smooth and calm movements.

Wealthy families hired nannies from poor peasants to rock (rock) their children. These were usually girls of seven or eight years old, among whom there were “glorious nannies” - talented nannies who could quickly calm down a playful or capricious child.

Among some peoples, the cradle was hung on an ochep - a rather long wooden pole. Most often, well-bending and springy birch was used for ochepa.

Hanging the cradle from the ceiling was not accidental:

The warmest air accumulated near the ceiling, which provided warmth for the baby.

In addition, many peoples believed that heavenly forces protect a child raised above the floor, so he grows better and accumulates vital energy.

The floor was perceived as the border between the human world and the world where evil spirits live: the souls of the dead, ghosts, brownies.

To protect the child from them, various sharp objects were placed under the cradle: knives, scissors or a comb.

It was strictly forbidden to rock an empty shaky boat; it was believed that a child would not be able to ride in it. This sign has survived to this day in relation to a crib or stroller.

The box was placed on high legs - runners. Such a cradle swayed from side to side with a light touch; it only had to be tilted a little. The advantage of such a crib was its economical location in a cramped home

, she could occupy a secluded place in the corner, and not be located in the middle of the room. The baby had a wider view. In relation to the light source, window or lamp, the rocking chair was turned horizontally every day so that the child did not develop strabismus.

The disadvantage of the “Vanka-Vstanka” was that it was not transportable: you couldn’t take it with you into a field or forest. The cradle could be loaded onto a cart, and then placed under a bush or hung on something. This idea of a removable part has continued to this day.

There are many beliefs and rituals associated with shaky stones, many of which have their origins in paganism:

To ensure a child's peaceful sleep, it was customary to place a log in the shaky patch. At the same time they said: “Sleep as soundly as this piece of wood.”

A spell was written on the cradle: “Budikha, don’t wake up the boy Mikha.” Budikha was the name of an evil spirit that did not allow the baby to sleep. So that Budikha would not disturb the baby, treats were left for him, and the cradle was hung near the icons, under the protection of the saints.

The Russian people had the belief that a laughing baby was a heavenly fragrant and magical garden. Therefore, they tried to decorate the cradles with royal birds, fancy flowers and trees. A radiant red sun was painted at the head, and a clear moon and stars at the feet.

A cross was carved into the legs. This meant that all people walk under God. Children were not placed in a cradle until they were baptized in church.

If a child died, his cradle was left in the forest under a cedar, the tree of the dead, so that the deceased, tired on the road, could lie down in the cradle and rest.

If the baby grew out of the cradle safely, then it was considered happy and was kept for the next children. When the happy cradle became dilapidated, it was taken into the forest and hung on the tree of life - a birch.

  • . How and when to teach it.
  • And . Difference. How to safely help your baby.
  • : reasons, danger.

The issue of choosing a sleeping place for a baby is very important, because at first the baby will spend most of his time in it. In their sleep, children grow, gain strength, and the brain rests in order to receive another portion of emotions from learning about the world around them while they are awake.

How to create comfortable sleeping conditions for your child? One way is to buy a cradle for your newborn. Let's review baby cribs and find out what their advantages are over regular beds.

Types of baby cradles

All cradles differ in shape, size, type of construction, material used and the presence of auxiliary accessories. Based on the type of construction, the following types of cradles are distinguished:

  • Traditional model on skids.
  • Electronic cradles for newborns.
  • Hanging rockers.
  • Wicker cradle for newborns.

Each model has operating features, recommended age restrictions and rules of practical care.

To help mom

The wheels on the cradle are a very important detail. If they are, then the cradle can not only be rocked, but also easily moved around the room. Large wooden wheels in a “retro” style have rubberized linings for a quiet, soft ride and add their own flavor to the appearance of the cradle. However, self-orienting caster wheels make moving around the apartment more convenient. Mom can easily move the baby closer to her bed or, for example, away from the window. Wheel locks allow you to securely lock the cradle in place if necessary.

The cradle, equipped with electronic “filling”, provides the baby with safe sleep and at the same time makes it easier for the mother to care for the baby, since it has a whole arsenal of “special means” to calm a crying baby. Having responded to crying, the cradle-nanny will turn on one of the rocking modes, at the same time the soft light of the built-in night light will light up and a gentle lullaby melody will be heard. If there is a possibility of recording and playback, then the cradle will “sing” a song to the baby in a gentle mother’s voice, even if dad is nearby at the moment. The little one will be interested in hanging toys, especially if they rotate smoothly on a carousel with a pleasant melody and flickering lights. Just like vibration, electronic carousel and music can be controlled by remote control.

Thanks to the bottom shelf or laundry basket, mom will always have a change of baby clothes, diapers, hygiene products and baby care items at hand. Sometimes, as an addition, a hanging bag for necessary small items and linen, made to match the upholstery of the cradle, may be included.

If the cradle is already equipped with a mattress and bedding, the mother will not have to look for them when choosing the appropriate size.

It is very convenient when it is possible to change the height level of the cradle. Wherever the mother is and no matter what she does, the baby will always be “in front of her eyes”; she will not have to get up again or, conversely, bend too much towards the cradle. If the mother is lying down, the cradle can be easily moved and lowered to the level of her bed. The cradles of the American brand Simplicity, in addition to the ability to choose the height, also have a detachable side, which allows them to be used as a bedside option.

Moreover, by removing the hood, the Simplicity cradle turns into a convenient changing table on wheels with a spacious lower basket for a change of clothes. Despite the short-term use of cradles (no more than 5-6 months), such “transformers” will last both mother and baby for at least a year - and even after the baby moves to sleep in the crib.

A distinctive feature of the “Pearl” model from Kolcraft (USA), in addition to the presence of an electronic unit, is the new design of the “hood” of the basket. It is located not traditionally, at the head, but on the side, turning the cradle into a sea shell containing a precious “pearl” - a little man. This arrangement makes it easy to put the baby in and out of the cradle, and the cradle itself will fit better into the interior if it has a place against the wall.

Traditional model on skids

A classic example of children's furniture for an infant. It is most often made of solid wood, but there are models made of metal and plastic. This type of cradle is presented in the form of a durable frame on which a small sleeping “basket” is located.

The structure of the base itself may vary: it may be a fixed stand on which a pendulum with a basket is mounted. An alternative design option is a crib located directly on runners curved in an arc.

All options are equipped with a stopper that secures the cradle in a certain position. Such a cradle for newborns can be made with your own hands if you have enough experience and skill.

Note!

The best wooden bassinets for newborns

Eco-friendly and practical cradles made of natural wood are not cheap, but they are safe and very beautiful. Many models are complemented by canopies, hoods and stable legs.

The stylish and compact model is made of laminated solid beech. The basket frame is assembled from 4 parts for easy transportation and storage. The legs are equipped with wheels for transportation, there is a mount for a canopy and a pendulum mechanism for motion sickness (if necessary, it can be fixed in a stationary state).

The distance between the slats is safe - 8 cm, the baby's head will not get stuck there, and it is easy to remove the arm or leg. The height of the crib is 100 cm, including the canopy 160 cm. The internal size of the cradle is 80x44 cm - enough for babies under six months of age.

Pros:

  • High-quality assembly;
  • Eco-friendly materials;
  • Comfortable oval cradle shape;
  • Canopy included;
  • Wheels for transportation;
  • Safe distance between lamellas;
  • Swing mechanism with lock.

Minuses:

  • There is no stupor on the wheels;
  • Bed linen and mattress must be purchased separately.

The Fiorellino Berlin New series of bassinets is available in two shades: white and beige (wood with clear varnish). The manufacturer is silent about weight restrictions, but the internal dimensions of the bed clearly set the age limits within 6-8 months.

This rocking chair for twins has a simpler, more classic design. The frame is made of solid beech, coated with water-based paints and varnish. All materials are harmless to children's health. The base under the mattress ensures the correct position of the back and prevents curvature of the spine.

The slats on the sides and partition are placed at a safe distance. In the design, all corners are rounded to prevent possible injuries, and the runners evenly distribute the weight, preventing the crib from turning over.

Pros:

  • The babies are separated by a lattice partition and do not interfere with each other's sleep;
  • Rounded corners and safe materials;
  • Reliable assembly;
  • The structure does not lose balance even if one of the children hangs over the edge;
  • Orthopedic bed and mattress included;
  • Slides for motion sickness.

Minuses:

  • No wheels or basket for things;
  • Simple design;
  • It costs expensive.

Italian furniture has always been valued for its quality, which is why its price is quite high. For a cradle for twins you will have to pay 27-30 thousand rubles.

The Dutch brand produces equally high-quality children's furniture. And even though this model cannot rock a child to sleep, it will last much longer than its plastic counterpart. The size of the crib is 83x46 cm, so you can use this cradle up to six months of age.

The cradle is made of MDF, and the legs are made of solid wood. The paints used are also natural and do not emit toxins or any odors at all. The stock is held securely in place by four legs connected by a partition for strength, but requires a level floor for stability.

Pros:

  • Natural materials;
  • Excellent air circulation;
  • Durable;
  • Suitable for any nursery interior;
  • There are no sharp corners and the distance between the slats is also safe;
  • Modules with toys and a canopy are easily attached to the frame.

Minuses:

  • No hood included;
  • Unsteady on an uneven floor;
  • Supplied without mattress;
  • A little expensive for MDF.

The model does not shine with an exquisite design - everything is modest and tasteful, but more than one generation of children can be raised in such a cradle. MDF is not affected by moisture and is perfectly preserved in polyethylene in a dry room.

An unusual format for a newborn's cradle - rather a place for mother and child to relax. The frame is made of multi-layer birch board - a durable, strong and natural material. Water-soluble varnish and Swedish acrylic paint were used as a decorative coating.

Mom's chair has fabric upholstery, which is easy to clean and at the same time quite resistant to abrasion. The bottom of the crib is hard and solid - ideal for placing an orthopedic mattress. The internal size of the crib is 37x77 cm, height 89 cm. The maximum permissible age is 6 months.

Pros:

  • Original design;
  • Serves as a crib and rocking chair for mom;
  • You can feed and rock your baby comfortably;
  • Easy to carry, suitable for outdoor activities;
  • Natural solid birch;
  • Relatively low cost.

Minuses:

  • Low sides;
  • Inconvenient to place on the bed;
  • Hard “blind” walls;

This design is good to place on the terrace or in the room where mom spends most of her time. But for active babies, the sides are too low - it is unsafe to leave a child older than 6 months in such a cradle. There may also be problems with choosing a mattress. The size of the cradle is slightly smaller than the standard 40x80 cm.

Electronic cradles

Regardless of shape and size, all models in this range have a compact motor. The engine drives the pendulum and swings the cradle in a single mode. Such designs require careful selection and subsequent practical care.

What is a cradle?

A traditional cradle is a small crib or basket mounted on special supports or suspended by handles. The main purpose of the product is to rock the baby. All models, even the simplest ones, cope with this function. More expensive products can be supplemented with various options and useful accessories.

Some psychologists are sure that a baby who has recently left his cozy tummy can sleep comfortably in a cradle, where he feels protected. In such a “nest” all conditions are created that are in many ways similar to those in which the baby spent 9 months. According to the observations of parents, a child who fell asleep in a cradle during the first months subsequently adapts to a more “adult” crib without any problems.

Hanging rockers

Today, there are two options for installing hanging cradles:

  1. The first model is mounted to the ceiling. Structures of this type require particularly strong fastenings and a preliminary assessment of the condition of the ceiling beams. Restraining cables must support both the weight of the laundry basket and the weight of the child. Be sure to evaluate the tensile strength of the cable when swinging.
  2. The second group of cradles is designed on a different principle. The production technology provides for the presence of a frame-rack in the form of a tripod. Retaining cables are attached in the center of the tripod, with the other end mounted to the edges of the cradle.

The second option is more popular and practical for young parents. Using a hanging cradle on a stand does not require attachment to the ceiling; the stand is made taking into account the distribution of the total weight.

Making a choice

Option one (classic) is a small wooden or wicker crib with a sleeping area 40-50 cm wide and 70-100 cm long, which swings on rocking arcs or due to a pendulum mechanism. The “pendulum” has a significant advantage - the cradle can be fixed in a stationary position, while most rocking chairs are not capable of this. ATTENTION! Having learned to roll over from side to side or making the first attempts to sit up independently, the baby may involuntarily sway very strongly in the cradle and eventually even fall out of it. Therefore, while the baby lying in it is awake, the cradle must be secured.

Option two is a floor-mounted version of the hanging cradle. This is a soft fabric, wicker basket or wooden cradle, suspended between two support posts and swinging on them, like a swing. Among these models there are also cradles with swing blocking, and some (with a hammock basket) can also be folded. An example is domestic cradles produced. Such a cradle made of beech or oak, equipped with a lock that will protect the baby from falling, will cost parents 3000-3500 rubles. along with a mattress, which is also included in the package.

Option three - new generation cradles that intelligently combine plastic, metal, textiles and modern technologies in their design. We are talking about cradles on wheels, very similar in appearance to a stroller. Such models are characterized by all methods of swinging and their combinations. Thus, the cradle can swing on arcs or on suspensions and at the same time have an electronic vibration rocking system, which turns on automatically when the baby cries and operates in modes of varying intensity. Moreover, the vibration system can be controlled from a distance using a remote control.

Option 2 in 1 - crib plus cradle. A very convenient and practical combination, here you don’t have to make a choice whether to buy a cradle first or buy a crib right away. In the first months of life, the baby sleeps in a small cradle-basket, which swings on straps and is suspended from the sides inside the crib. When the baby grows up, the cradle is removed, and he moves to sleep directly in the crib itself. By the way, the Tly (Geoby) series cribs are not only equipped with a removable cradle, but also increase in length as the child grows (from 1.1 to 1.6 m), which allows children to sleep on them from birth until school. At the same time, they have a more than affordable price - from 4,000 to 7,000 rubles, depending on the model and configuration, which includes a canopy and a tripod for it, a soft “bumper”, and a mattress. But the oval-shaped crib SLEEPI (Stokke) for newborn babies becomes a cradle itself. To do this, only the outer sections of the crib are joined together (without its middle part) and legs with wheels are added. Subsequently, the cradle is assembled into a crib with a two-level bed, which, in turn, is converted into a sofa. When the crib is no longer used for its intended purpose, it is disassembled again and turned into a pair of chairs, the soft seat of which has two height levels. But if you buy an additional section and a bottom, the child-sized crib will turn into a SLEEPI JUNIOR sofa with a length of 170 cm, capable of withstanding a load of over 100 kg. True, for such superpowers of an oval transformable crib you will have to pay a tidy sum. In standard configuration it costs about 30,000 rubles.

So parents have plenty to choose from: a wide range of cradles - from strict classics to high technology. But no matter what form the cradle takes, its main task is always the same - rocking the baby to sleep.

Wicker rocking basket

This model is provided with a frame made of wood or metal structure. On the upper contour of the frame there is a wicker rattan basket equipped with a pendulum. All possible movements of the cradle are limited by side stops, and the durable base can withstand significant weight.

Rattan is a versatile material for making a children's basket. It is environmentally friendly, does not contain allergens, and is perfectly breathable. Even with high humidity and constant changing of diapers, there is no risk of pathogenic fungi developing inside the basket.

The best cradles made of metal and plastic

The range of such models is more extensive, moreover, they are lighter and have wheels for moving around the apartment. The best option for mothers who want to always keep their baby in sight.

The cradle with a pendulum mechanism and a deep hood will be appreciated by many mothers. It is suspended on a durable metal frame with stable legs. They have rubber tips that resist slipping on the floor. The rocking system has 5 speeds and 3 rocking intervals: 5, 15 and 30 minutes.

A mattress with a soft cushion and walls will add comfort, and a removable mosquito net will protect from insects, which completely blocks access to the baby. For entertainment, there is a music center with children's songs.

The new product from the Italian brand is one of the best options for an additional crib. The cradle is equipped with a stable but not bulky metal frame and soft sides with mesh inserts. One side panel is removable for quick access to the child. The height of the cradle also changes - there are 8 levels available here, and there is also an anti-reflux position that prevents regurgitation.

The Cullami series has a wide choice of colors - 10 pieces, designs with and without frills. The kit includes a holder for the module and canopy, as well as straps for attaching to the parent's bed.

Pros:

  • Large selection of colors and designs;
  • Serves as a stand-alone or bedside cradle;
  • Reliable metal frame;
  • Pleasant textile upholstery;
  • Removable wheels for transportation;
  • 8 height levels;
  • Rocking function.

Minuses:

  • No hood;

Another option for a bedside cradle, in which the baby will be no less comfortable. The mesh high walls and anatomical back seem to imitate the position in the mother's tummy, which means that the child will sleep more soundly, feeling protected. The shape of the frame allows the cradle to be placed closer to the parent's bed.

The design provides for changing the height of the base from 76 to 96 cm and two levels of head elevation - 11 and 30 degrees to prevent regurgitation. Other features include a night light, a player with four lullabies, nature and heartbeat sounds, 2 motion sickness speeds, and a sleep timer. A 3-point belt is responsible for safety.

Pros:

  • The legs of the frame slide under the parent's bed;
  • Backrest with two lifting modes;
  • Motion sickness system;
  • Mesh walls;
  • Adjustable height;
  • Seat belts for fastening the baby;
  • Ringtones and other functions;
  • Affordable price.

Minuses:

  • Limit up to 8 kg – approximate age 5 months.

It is not worth exceeding the permissible weight category in such a design - the mesh will not withstand the load and will quickly break. And it won’t be so comfortable for a grown child to sleep in it.

For travel and trips to visit or to the countryside, we recommend this model. It is lightweight, folds quickly for transportation and serves as a cradle-chaise lounge. The child can not only sleep there, but also eat, play and watch what is happening. The anatomical base ensures comfortable sleep, and the straps ensure safety.

The side walls are made of durable mesh for air circulation and good visibility. The frame is made of metal and folds easily - like a camping chair. For newborns in the first month of life there is a special insert under the backrest. In addition, the chaise lounge can rock the baby and sing songs to him.

Pros:

  • Model 2 in 1 – cradle and chaise longue;
  • 3 height levels;
  • Folding mechanism – compact and mobile;
  • Durable metal base;
  • Hard back with soft liner;
  • Vibration mode selection.

Minuses:

  • Designed for ages up to 4 months;
  • It is not recommended for a child to constantly sleep in such a cradle.

The chaise longue is good for its mobility. It allows you to take the baby into your kitchen when you cook, or to visit friends. But as a permanent sleeping place, it is still inferior to a crib.

The miniature cradle serves as an ideal place for a baby to sleep comfortably. It can be installed in any room and placed next to the bed. The base of the cradle is made of breathable cotton fabric, which is easy to care for, moreover, it absorbs liquid well and is ventilated. The mattress comes with a waterproof quilted cover.

The plastic legs have an arched shape and are fixed in two positions: high, like a regular crib, and low, in the form of runners for motion sickness. This bed can be placed on a table or sofa for relaxing next to your mother. The internal size of the cradle is 74x30 cm.

Pros:

  • Compact dimensions;
  • Silent;
  • Legs made of high quality plastic;
  • Deep cradle with a ventilated bottom and a soft mattress;
  • 2 height positions;
  • Textiles are easy to care for.

Minuses:

  • Solid sidewalls do not allow air to pass through;
  • A little expensive for a plastic model;
  • No additional features.

The basket can be used for at least 6 months - until the baby begins to rise and outgrows the size of the cradle. Due to the runners, a smooth swing is obtained, like in a stroller.

Chicco Baby Hug 4 in 1

97%

buyers recommend this product

The cot-chair grows with the child from birth to 3 years. First used as a cradle, it is equipped with a comfortable mattress, soft upholstery and a module for toys. With age, the Hug transforms into a chaise lounge, where the child is fastened with seat belts. And when the baby learns to sit on his own, the model is used as a high chair.

Almost everything in the Chicco Baby transformer is adjustable: height, tilt, back, seat. Durability is ensured by a durable metal frame and high-quality upholstery, which is removable for washing. The legs are equipped with wheels for moving around the apartment. The transformation mechanism is simple and reliable, and the toy module turns into a wide handle for transportation.

Pros:

  • Practical and safe design;
  • Original, stylish design;
  • Keeps balance perfectly, even when the baby is spinning around;
  • 4 wheels with brakes for movement;
  • Seat belts;
  • Soft toys-pendants included, plus a tune player;
  • 3 backrest positions.

Minuses:

  • All stains are visible on the fabric, so it will have to be washed often.

When folded, the model takes up little space - 85x88x60 cm. It can be stored on the balcony. The total height of the cradle is 122 cm - the mother will not have to bend too low towards the baby, especially after a complicated birth or caesarean section.

Forged cradles

Such models are most often examples of original designs. They are expensive, have sufficient strength and structural stability. There may be combined models where only the post frames are forged. The cradle itself and the pendulum are made of wood.

Cradle or crib? Benefits of the cradle

Should you prefer a cradle or just buy a crib? A similar question plagues many parents, especially if the budget is very limited. After all, even the highest quality cradle will last no more than six months (less often, 8-12 months), then the baby will simply “grow out of it.” That is why some consider such an acquisition impractical. But if you study all the advantages of the cradle, you can understand that the crib is inferior to it.

  1. Usually a baby in a large crib feels unprotected. The small size of the cradle allows the baby to feel comfortable, which contributes to sound, sweet sleep.
  2. In a cradle, a child falls asleep easier and faster than in a crib.
  3. Owners of small apartments will appreciate the compact cradle. It takes up minimal space, which is especially important when you want to make the most efficient use of space.
  4. The mobility of the cradle allows the mother to monitor the baby without being distracted from her own affairs.
  5. Some cribs are equipped with useful features that make life much easier for parents. These include a vibration motion sickness system, automatic melodies, hanging toys, and carrying straps.

Important!!! The mobility of the cradle can be traumatic for an active baby. Therefore, as soon as the baby begins to actively move and stand up, the cradle must be replaced with a stable crib. This usually happens after 5-6 months.

Wooden cradles

Similar models are the most common in children's furniture stores. Wood species that are distinguished by good environmental performance, durability and stylish design are used in production. Most often, ash, alder and oak play this role. All of these types of wood do not contain allergens and do not emit toxic resins.

With optimal production technology (especially pre-impregnation with moisture-resistant and antifungal compounds), these cradles can serve for a long time as furniture for children.

What to look for when choosing

  1. Material. Baby cradles are made of wood or polystyrene material. We have already found out that wooden models are preferable due to their naturalness. When purchasing, you should make sure that the crib is not coated with toxic varnishes. Do not hesitate to ask for a quality certificate for the product.
  2. Fastening strength. Metal fasteners are considered the best; they are more reliable than plastic or wooden ones.
  3. No sharp corners. Since the piece of furniture is in the baby's room, it should not pose any danger to the crawling baby.
  4. Accessories included in the kit. Some parents successfully manage without them, purchasing the simplest model.

Still, it’s very nice when the cradle is equipped with additional elements:

  • mobile, hanging toys with musical accompaniment;
  • removable wheels allowing you to move the cradle from place to place;
  • blockers for support, with their help the rocking chair turns into a regular bed, older children cannot rock themselves;
  • a mesh for toys at the bottom of the crib, with its presence your favorite toys will always be at hand;
  • the canopy protects from flies in the summer and from bright lighting;
  • mattress. Since the dimensions of the cradle differ from a standard bed, the mattress must also be appropriate or 1 cm smaller than the sleeping place;
  • bedding that fits properly.
