But I was inspired to write this post by watching a series of Channel One programs “Let Them Talk” dedicated to the last Eurovision. A large number of guests in the studio, a benefit performance by Philip Kirkorov, who represented the Moldovan group he was promoting at the current Eurovision, parting words to Yulia Samoilova from Lazarev, Gagarina and other participants in the competition, and then, consolation from the undeserved failure to qualify for the final and... nothing about Bilan. A weak attempt to remember the only winner by someone from the audience was cut short by the same Philip, citing the fact that in 2008 there was a different grading system for the competition and a different political situation. I think I’ll make such a “historical” post with excerpts from the press and a video from 10 years ago, especially since in 2008 I didn’t read or look at anything on this topic and I was just wondering what they said and wrote in that victorious year. Imagine my surprise when, reading articles on the Internet, looking through various interviews and comments on the Eurovision-related topic, I saw so much bile and slop that now I’m not sure that Yulia Samoilova’s failure to make it to the finals is leading in terms of the negativity that poured onto her head and the head of the organizers. Starting with the controversy over the national selection, in which Bilan won “dishonestly, as always,” ahead of Panayotov, Otradnaya, Lazarev and Vorobyov who were in the top five, conversations about the “worthless” song, the “paid half-singer,” the disgusting number, and ending with the victory itself, which the “under-singer” with the “under-song” did not deserve. Many said that not even a year would pass, and everyone would forget about this song, and Bilan himself. Whoever has “ridden” over it, many artists and famous journalists have “rolled over” both Bilan’s vocals, his self-esteem, and the song. Devastating articles and programs on TV, in particular from Vladimir Solovyov, came out on those very days when the team was already in Belgrade and rehearsing for the semi-finals and finals. We don’t know how to lose and don’t like it, but the strangest thing is that it turns out that we don’t respect our winners either. In short, after reading all this crap and, frankly speaking, even feeling upset for Dima, even though these are things of a long time ago (although I’m sure it still bothers him now), I changed my mind about making this very historical excursion.
