The best organic cosmetics: my favorite products

Natural cosmetics are taking precedence over mass-produced products, because the latter use chemical compounds that are dangerous to skin health.

What is female beauty? This is proper care for your face, body and hair. And it can be called such only if natural cosmetics are used. Reviews about brands are different: some manufacturers deserve love, while others were blacklisted by beauties after the first use. How not to make a mistake in choosing a brand, not to harm yourself and not to lose money?

Natural facial products – what are they?

They can be divided into two groups: the first is intended for skin care, the second is decorative. Only if it contains at least 95% natural ingredients, and this is confirmed by a certificate, can it be called organic.

How is the best natural facial cosmetics determined? Reviews will help you do this. For example, the most popular brands for skin care are:

  1. ERBELINICA - developed by dermatocosmetologists. The products are certified because their effectiveness has been proven and they are harmless.
  2. Korres - the company was opened by pharmacist D. Korres in Greece. Over the 23 years of its existence, the brand has earned enormous popularity. Each product contains no parabens, synthetic components or silicone.

It’s more difficult with decorative cosmetics: mascara that suits one girl may not appeal to another. The same thing happens with blush, powder and pencils for eyes and eyebrows. But if you believe the reviews, the best organic producers are France and Belarus. For example, Lancome and Yves Rocher, Belita and Lux Visage.

Natural cosmetics for the face: reviews

Natural cosmetics are not always good and healthy

One of the most famous activists for natural ingredients in cosmetics is actress Gwyneth Paltrow, who owns the Goop brand. She is convinced that synthetic components in cosmetics cause many diseases, including cancer, autism, Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease, so she sells exclusively natural cosmetics. Her approach has been repeatedly criticized, and a website with beauty and wellness advice was closed due to unconfirmed information. For example, the actress suggested doing coffee enemas to wash the intestines, which can be fatal, and also advised injecting jade eggs inside to increase sexual energy. Once upon a time she even produced a spray against energy vampires. Therefore, it is impossible to say with confidence that all natural cosmetics brands produce proven and useful products.

Hair products: restore health and beauty

The most popular products are masks, shampoos and conditioners. Among the favorites is Alba Botanica. Having a fairly rich composition, this mask makes hair manageable, shiny, and gives it extra strength.

Avalon Organics shampoo is designed to normalize the condition of the scalp. It prevents flaking, moisturizes and is great for those who suffer from dry seborrhea, dandruff and excessive sensitivity.

Many people like products from the Earth's Best brand. This is also a natural hair cosmetics, the reviews of which are quite good. The only thing that confuses us is the expiration date, because organics cannot be stored for as long as, for example, the Earth Science mask - as much as five years.

The manufacturer Logona even has 100% natural hair dyes in its range. The product is certified, which means its quality is confirmed. The comments say that it distributes well even with uneven application and lasts 1-2 months. The manufacturer claims that the paint does not penetrate the structure, but only covers the hairs from the outside.

Choosing safe cosmetics

If you don’t know how to choose safe organic cosmetics, then I will share with you the main points that you need to pay attention to when choosing products.

  1. It can be purchased in specialized stores or boutiques. For example, I most often order from iherb.com and evitamins.com
  2. The product has an unobtrusive, light, floral or pharmaceutical smell. If the smell is not very good, check the expiration date.
  3. The composition should not contain mineral oils, parabens, SLS (sulfates), phthalates, artificial colors, silicone.
  4. Usually the shelf life is short - a maximum of a year and a half.
  5. Some products have a heterogeneous structure due to the manufacturer’s refusal to use emulsifiers, so the bottle or jar should be shaken vigorously before use.
  6. Manufacturers indicate a complete list of ingredients on the jar, since they have nothing to hide from the consumer.
  7. This cosmetics does not belong to the category of inexpensive products. It costs more than conventional products due to the use of natural and high-quality ingredients.
  8. If the packaging contains organic cosmetics certificates.

Thus, we can conclude that this cosmetics is quite “alive” and, if desired, you can even prepare it yourself, having proven recipes at hand.

If you have never bought organic cosmetics, I can recommend you popular brands that occupy pride of place in the world rankings: Alba Botanica, Avalon Organics, Caudalie, Weleda, Giovanni, Desert Essence, Natura Siberica, Planeta Organica. As you can see, the range of such products is quite wide, and there is plenty to choose from.

Natural cosmetics Mixit

The Russian manufacturer has lines for face, body and hair care. This can be either ready-made cosmetics or custom-made ones. It is the first online laboratory, thanks to which girls have the opportunity to choose the composition themselves, and it is very convenient to create their ideal version. However, the brand cannot be called 100% natural. Some products contain inorganic elements. The price is acceptable for women with an average income.

Natural cosmetics Mixit has collected a variety of reviews. Most users were unhappy after using shampoos and conditioners. At the same time, those who tried creams, scrubs and bath salts on themselves were happy with their purchase. I liked the smell, consistency and effect.

Rating of popular Russian brands

Natura Siberica is recognized as one of the best Russian cosmetics brands

When choosing facial care products, each of us strives to purchase a composition that contains the maximum amount of natural substances beneficial to the skin and the minimum percentage of aggressive chemical additives, so our rating was compiled precisely on this principle.

  1. recognized as a leader among domestic manufacturers. It produces natural, organic cosmetic products based on plants growing in ecologically clean regions of Siberia. In addition to these components, the composition contains active organic extracts that have received certificates in France. The products of this manufacturer are popular not only in Russia, but also abroad. All products consist of 95% plant components, natural oils, which are not subject to chemical treatment, thereby becoming hypoallergenic. Their product range is wide, the price is affordable for every buyer.
  2. It is no less popular among buyers due to the introduction of predominantly natural raw materials into the composition of its cosmetics (essential oils, herbs, sea buckthorn, plantain and others). Their products are developed not only in Russia, but also in France and Japan. In most formulations the amount of natural ingredients reaches 99%. Products from this brand are produced not only for women, but also for children and teenagers. Their cost is average, and their effectiveness is high.
  3. relatively recently entered the cosmetics market, it uses herbal ingredients, natural plant extracts, and active natural oils to produce its products. The company uses benzyl alcohol and all kinds of natural acids (citric, lactic) as preservatives. Interestingly, this manufacturer was one of the first in Russia to receive a “Vegan” certificate and was awarded the right to depict a rabbit figurine on the packaging of its products, confirming that the products are not tested on animals. The company's pricing policy allows you to buy high-quality skin care cosmetics at a budget price.
  4. Cosmetics, named after the female goddess of handicraft, are distinguished by the production of cosmetic compositions without water, which do not require the inclusion of preservatives or emulsifiers in the formulation, due to the presence of a natural antioxidant - vitamin E. All oils contained in the products are unrefined, therefore they retain their beneficial properties and efficiency.
They are ideal for dry, aging skin, as they have nourishing, moisturizing and anti-aging effects. The cost of their goods is budget, acceptable for any buyer, even with a low income. In Green Mama brand cosmetics the amount of natural raw materials reaches up to 99%
  5. The company with the most intriguing and unusual name “Yaga” comes from the mythical image of a deity who helps women follow their natural destiny. The manufacturer claims that its principle is 100% natural compositions made exclusively by hand. He declares the complete absence of preservatives and emulsifiers in his cosmetics due to the exclusion of water from the formulation. The products consist of natural and essential oils, herbal infusions, beeswax, extracts from plants and berries. Surprising is the fact that the owner of the company independently, manually collects herbs and berries in clean natural areas. In addition, this manufacturer has received all the necessary certificates confirming the safety and natural composition of their products.
  6. Ecological cosmetics with a scientific approach, created in the laboratory of Sergei Popravko (the name of the products is of the same name) adheres to the principle of absolute naturalness of its products. They introduce organic and natural oils, unique royal jelly, and beeswax into the recipe. Water is present in the formulations, and natural beeswax and propolis are used as preservatives. The shelf life of these cosmetics is about six months, the volumes of jars and bottles are different. The company has received a product safety certificate, but the cost of their cosmetics is not low.
  7. A series of medicinal cosmetics from is considered natural, contains powerful antioxidants, skin rejuvenating peptides, as well as compounds that regenerate and repair damaged cells. The company is constantly improving its products, introducing the latest scientifically created compounds that help the skin not age and remain beautiful. This manufacturer has all the necessary quality and safety certificates. The cost of products is affordable for the average buyer.
  8. produces medical and cosmetic products using a large number of natural ingredients in the formulation. The formulations are being developed by scientists, doctors, and biologists from leading medical centers in Russia. In addition to cosmetics, this manufacturer produces medicines sold in pharmacies. The company is constantly increasing its range of cosmetics, improving the formulation of facial skin care compositions.
  9. The popular brand Faberlic is known for producing a series of oxygen cosmetics that allow the skin to fully breathe and recover from the stress it receives every day and contact with toxins in large cities. The company's cosmetic products contain natural extracts, extracts from plants, fruits, berries, and tree bark. There are lines of hypoallergenic formulations suitable for use by people with a sensitive type of epidermis. The price category of goods is affordable, the range is quite wide.
  10. The Alina Zanskar brand offers professional caring cosmetics for use in spa salons. The products of this manufacturer are based on the use of natural raw materials brought from Indonesia, Africa, South America, and extracted from the Arctic and Atlantic oceans.
  11. Among the Premium class cosmetics produced in Russia, we can highlight products that produce the so-called neurocosmetics of the future. Recent scientific discoveries have proven the negative impact of stress on the skin, leading to aging and general fading of the epidermis, so a new direction has appeared in cosmetics designed to combat precisely this factor. Neurocosmetics are designed to slow down the aging processes occurring in the nerve fibers of the skin tissue. It helps to effectively relax facial wrinkles, thereby smoothing the skin, and also enhances cell nutrition, eliminates inflammatory processes and even improves a person’s mood. A revolutionary product in domestic neurocosmetics has become a biorevitalizer serum, which contains a biomimic peptide, lipoarginyl-tyrosine, which is unique in its rejuvenating and wrinkle-removing effect. In addition to its restorative and renewing effect, it synthesizes the production of the pleasure hormone (endorphin) in the skin. The effectiveness of this serum has been confirmed by users, as it has shown decent results in the fight against age-related wrinkles, dryness, and increased sensitivity of the skin to external climatic influences. The product can quickly restore the barrier function of the epidermis after ultraviolet irradiation.
  12. Another company producing Premium cosmetics is the Russian one, which creates its products under the management of professors of dermatology and cosmetology at the Beauty Institute in Moscow. The effectiveness of the products is based on the use of natural raw materials, scientifically developed formulas and advanced technologies in the field of biology. This cosmetics is medicinal, has 10 series for the restoration and care of skin of different types, reliably protecting it from the destructive influence of the environment.

Consult with a cosmetologist which components your skin currently needs in order to purchase a truly necessary product.

Good luck!

Beauty10 reasons I hate: Organic cosmetics

The title “10 Things I Hate About You” should not be taken literally—we certainly don’t hate anyone. On the contrary, like Heath Ledger’s hero in the film of the same name, we treat the objects of our attention with increased tenderness - and, therefore, demandingness. Because from hatred to love you know what, as well as vice versa.

Buy our organic cosmetics and you will save the world/make the planet a better place/support women in Zimbabwe who collect macadamia nuts for five dollars a month/avoid dangerous “chemical” ingredients,” the brands themselves that support the eco-trend, and many media. Do you have a lot of organic cosmetics at home? No? We'll tell you why.

Package

The appearance of the jar - its weight, fonts, colors - is 80% of the success of cosmetics. When a jar of organic cosmetics, certified by EcoCert inside and out, costs around 2000–3000 rubles, but at the same time looks like 300, something doesn’t add up in your head. Moreover, the reasons are clear: EcoCert makes demands not only on the fields in which the plants grow, the plants themselves, the final formula, but also on the packaging. Plastic must decompose, as does paint on plastic. As a result, the jars come out unattractive. Yes, not all. But organics are already scarce, and few people will look for a brand with beautiful packaging among them.

Price

Producing organic cosmetics is expensive. It includes concern for nature (you cannot use fertilizers in the fields where ingredients grow; the soil must be handled with care), and business ethics (while competitors pay five dollars for the work of an African woman in the fields, we will pay 15 and build a school), and payment for certification. EcoCert comes to certify the production of a specific batch of a specific product at each stage. As a result, the price of an organic product can be even higher than that of conventional cosmetics, but the manufacturer will still receive half the profit.

Places of purchase

Natural and organic brands are practically not represented in large chains such as Ile de Beaute or L'Etoile. The only variety is Cosmotheca, where most of the brands are eco, but how many Cosmotheca stores do we have? The same can be said about Organic Shop, although it is opening more and more stores. Melvita has seven stores and a website. British Organic Surge is generally sold only through the website. Fans go shopping on iherb.com, again a website. Just going out and buying something organic is not such a trivial task.

Consultants

But even if you go out and find something online, it's not a given that you'll come across a consultant who can tell you the merits of organic versus non-organic rose oil or why parabens are evil. So study the range of brands on websites on the Internet and make your own choice.

Allergenic ingredients

No, this is absolutely not a statistical statement, not supported by any scientific facts. But a short survey showed: girls prefer to buy anything for their body and hair from organic brands and avoid buying facial products, fearing allergies (natural essential oils and extracts can be more allergenic than their chemically modified counterparts) or not believing in their effectiveness.

Efficiency

And this is the main current problem in positioning organic brands. Efficiency. While talking about protecting the Amazon forests from deforestation, brands forgot to tell us that, in fact, their cosmetics remove wrinkles, fight acne, even out skin tone and solve a million other problems that worry the modern woman so much thanks to TV advertising. They also don’t talk about what modern technologies and what scientific research is going on in the R&D centers of their brands - although they are going on. Apparently, “manufacturability and science” are difficult to mix with “naturalness” in one communication bottle. It’s better to draw the daisy beautifully in 3D.

Uninteresting textures and flavors

Many organic brands, having realized that they are losing in the “sensual pleasure” category, today pay much more attention to both texture and aroma. But eco-production imposes some restrictions on the manufacturer. In order for the cream to be easily applied and distributed and quickly absorbed, conventional brands put silicones and emulsifiers in it, which an organic brand will not use. For fragrance, essential oils are often used as aromatic additives - or the product is made odorless.

Best before date

Many novice followers of the eco-trend are sure that natural cosmetics cannot be stored for a long time, because evil parabens have been removed from them. In fact, maybe up to two years on average. And the problem here is different. Two years is not enough for our market. In order for cosmetics to be accepted online, their shelf life must be at least two years. While the batch is brought to Russia, it goes through customs, Russian stickers are stuck on it - there is a year left of the expiration date. And this leads to point 3.

Animal tests

"We don't test on animals." And on whom? It seems like they're not telling us something here? Yes, the company itself may not test on animals. The fact is that very few people carry them out on their own - for this there are third-party laboratories and suppliers of raw materials. And even they have not often had to test ingredients on animals in recent years. Over the past 20th century, more than 20 thousand ingredients have already been tested on animals and are now used, including by companies with a rabbit logo on their packaging. (We are also for happiness in rabbits. And we are also for the full picture.)

Fanaticism

Reluctance to belong to a sect. For some reason, fans of all things natural reek of serious brainwashing. And this is the most unpleasant thing in the whole story with eco-cosmetics. I don’t want to be part of the people who sincerely believe that “up to 60% of substances applied to the skin immediately enter the bloodstream.”

WHAT does all this lead to? Manufacturers themselves estimate the share of sales of organic cosmetics in Russia at less than 1% - and through many years of development they increase the shelf life, remake the packaging into more attractive ones and begin to tell us that they are effective, and not just organic. Today it is no longer a competitive advantage, even in the West. After all, we still want fewer wrinkles first, and then world peace. Otherwise, why do we need this cream at all?

Sk Cosmetics (natural cosmetics): reviews and prices

These are certified handmade products designed for face, hair and body care. The cosmetics are 100% organic, thanks to which they have a healing effect. The price directly depends on the type of product. It starts from 200 rubles and can be more than 1000.

The company consists of only two people. These are women who understand that it is especially important for mothers and wives to always look good while spending a minimum of time on care. One of the founders makes her own products. The girls themselves claim that their cosmetics are exceptionally effective, as they consist of excellent ingredients of plant origin. However, users do not always agree with them. For example, this happened with a cream for stretch marks, which none of the customers liked.

Organic eco-cosmetics: beauty review by the editors of WANT.ua

Organic eco-cosmetics are a new trend in the perfumery and cosmetics industry. The largest supermarkets, such as Karavan, Class, Metro, devote entire racks to eco-cosmetics, natural shampoos and powders, natural detergents and scrubs, gels, and toothpastes. What does the prefix organic actually mean, what are its pros and cons, and most importantly, is it worth the price chaos of +200% to the price of a regular mass market, the editors of the magazine WANT.ua are looking into it.

The term Organic – which means “natural, natural” – came to us at the beginning of the 20th century from agriculture. This term denoted everything that went against the trend of global chemicalization, the use of pesticides and synthetic compounds in the cultivation and production of eco-products. Smoothly, this trend has moved into cosmetics. At the same time, in addition to organic cosmetics, there are already natural cosmetics on the market. What is the difference?

Organic eco-cosmetics - must contain 95%+ natural ingredients, have certificates from well-known organizations confirming product quality, no parabens, thickeners, harmful preservatives; eco-packaging.

Natural cosmetics – up to 50% of the composition is natural ingredients.

Please note that now the boundaries between organic eco-cosmetics and natural ones are very blurred. This is due to the fact that at the moment there are several global and European organizations issuing certificates based on different standards for monitoring a particular process. Depending on which organization’s certificate the cosmetic brand receives, that sign appears on the packaging. But it is quite acceptable that 2 different certificates can indicate identical naturalness/naturalness in both.

At the same time, technologies for maintaining product quality are being improved and you may well come across a fairly reputable brand that produces creams with a shelf life of more than 12 months.

DANGERS IN USING ORGANIC COSMETICS

Natural organic cosmetics are almost filled to capacity with natural substances that in themselves are not dangerous or allergens, but on skin with hypersensitivity or intolerance it can behave differently.

Very important! If you have an allergy or intolerance to any of the components that we indicate below, do not buy this cosmetics - it is contraindicated for you!

Essential oil (chamomile, lemon balm, parsley, citrus)

Sources of plant proteins (wheat germ, rhubarb stems, aloe leaves)

Honey (as well as propolis, pollen)

Eco cosmetics

Important rule! If you are allergic: it is better to have 3-4 essential oils in the composition than 1, because... a lower concentration of each element will prevent irritation from occurring

FIRST AID FOR ALLERGIES TO COSMETICS

If you already have an allergy:

Avoid any cosmetics, wash your face with regular baby soap for 2 weeks and wipe your skin with rose oil toner - it is the most hypoallergenic

Take an antihistamine (dexamethasone)

If possible, eliminate decorative cosmetics, especially fatty creams, foundations, and cream powders.

Bio cosmetics

Christina, 24 years old, administrator at a fitness center : “I was flattered by the stand with organic eco-cosmetics and bought myself a whole set - body cream, face cream, under the eyes, scrub. And if there are no complaints about the body scrub - I applied it, massaged it and washed it off, then this was a problem with the day cream. At first, I was confused by its smell - very bright, as if masking, but I didn’t pay attention to it until 3 days later I developed a terrible allergy. After reading the ingredients on the box, I saw orange essential oil in it, and I always get it on citrus fruits. And I didn’t find any sign of attention for allergy sufferers - if at least there was a warning that such and such components cause a rash, I would have been prepared. In general, I was upset. The cream costs a lot of money, and the term organic is not 100% hypoallergenic.”

Anastasia Ostroverkhova, quality control specialist : Now the organic and eco direction is only gaining strength. And, unfortunately, there are many unscrupulous manufacturers on the market. It is impossible to say that such cosmetics will be 100% better than ordinary ones. The absence of harmful parabens is replaced by a large number of natural allergens - is this correct? Is this suitable for every consumer? But natural organic cosmetics are counting on mass popularity, which is currently not possible due to high prices, lame composition and lack of certificates

IS IT WORTH USING ORGANIC COSMETICS?

Playing sports is a trend. Eating healthy and natural food is also a trend. Driving not in a regular car, but in a Tesla electric car is a trend, and what a trend! Organic eco-cosmetics have correctly captured the trend of fashion and the “green” direction of all technological innovations, but in pursuit of sales, will it be able to satisfy the needs of every person and will it not become another Yupi, which has a beautiful name, taste, and then rewards with gastritis of the stomach? The choice is yours.

What is the difference between organic cosmetics?

Natural cosmetics can also be called organic. In both the first and second cases, this means one thing - it does not contain parabens, “chemicals,” silicone, in general, those components that can harm the skin and hair. In addition, it is not addictive. However, organics have a slightly different meaning.

Take, for example, the Russian manufacturer Natura Siberica. This is a good natural cosmetics, the reviews of which are mostly positive. The company has certificates; their first organic farm was opened not long ago in Khakassia. The point is quite simple: a vegetable, fruit or other plant that was treated with anti-pest drugs during its growth is no longer natural. Only something that has been grown without the use of any chemicals can be called organic. Natura Siberica is not the only company that makes sure that only natural cosmetics are supplied to consumers. Reviews of brands from different countries are good confirmation of this.

Organic products are not capable of causing allergies. The only exception is individual intolerance to the components (for example, citrus fruits). An important difference from unnatural cosmetics is that organics cleanse pores, while its antipode clogs them. This is often the cause of the development of skin diseases.

Natural cosmetics: reviews of brands

Natural cosmetics can cause allergies

Natural oils can often cause skin irritation or allergic reactions. The most common allergenic foods include nuts, citrus fruits, honey, spices, pollen, and certain plants to which the body responds with allergies. According to Joel De Koven of the University of Toronto, “There are no guarantees regarding the effectiveness or safety of essential oil products such as perfumes, creams and lotions.” A particularly active allergic reaction can occur in children. Also, plant components can cause contact dermatitis. Of course, reputable beauty brands do allergy tests, but, alas, not all natural cosmetics sold in stores have quality certificates.

The opinion that it is impossible to do without chemicals in the production of cosmetics

Additional substances that will increase shelf life are, of course, needed. If, for example, thickeners are not used in production, the same cleansing gel will not last even two weeks. But many believe that such components must be chemical, which is the main mistake. There are a huge number of natural substances that will help thicken the product.

The maximum shelf life is usually six months if the package is unopened. Once opened, the product will be usable for about two months (sometimes more or less). By the way, this is why manufacturers package products in small jars.

How to choose the right brand?

There are constantly advertisements on the Internet about the emergence of new manufacturers. They praise their products, placing the main emphasis on the words “natural cosmetics.” Reviews of brands can be difficult to find since they have just entered the market. And if there are comments, then it is not always reasonable to believe in their verisimilitude. There is only one thing left to do - study the composition.

When buying cosmetics, a girl should always pay attention to the label. It should not contain words such as mineral oil - these are technical oils, and organic products cannot contain silicones.

It is not so easy to choose products that are ideal and emphasize individuality. You need to try several brands, and only then will it be possible to determine the best one. Each person is individual. For this reason, you should not be surprised if most people talk about the ideal application of powder, but in reality it turns out to be completely wrong.

Good natural cosmetics, reviews

Decorative cosmetics: natural vs ordinary

Decorative cosmetics are the last thing we change when switching to natural ones. While we avoid synthetic components in skin care cosmetics, we put up with them in decorative products, because we think: it lies on top and does not interact with the skin - so what difference does it make what’s inside? But in reality, decorative cosmetics penetrate the skin a little worse than day cream, and we generally eat lipstick with our morning coffee. So maybe you should pay more attention to your makeup products?

We “wear” decorative products all day, and if there are potential irritants in it, they have enough time to act. We renew our makeup throughout the day - and the concentration of chemical components on the skin increases. So let's take a look at what makes up what we put on our skin.

What's wrong with ordinary decorative cosmetics?

I'll start with one of the most discussed components - silicones
. When used in foundations, powders and lipsticks, silicones visually smooth the skin, making it instantly look more well-groomed. But the long-term effect of daily use of cosmetics with silicones may not please you. The thin film it creates causes excessive moisture in the stratum corneum of the skin - it swells. As a result, the protective functions of the skin are weakened, and age-related wrinkles appear faster.

This silicone “lid” stimulates inflammatory processes, which is especially noticeable in problem skin. Getting silicones inside, for example with lipstick, should also be avoided. Researchers cannot yet say exactly how silicones behave in the human body, but experiments on animals have shown that they accumulate in the area of the liver and lymph nodes.

Another popular ingredient is the natural mineral talc

, which is found in foundations and powders. In decorative cosmetics, talc is used as a filler, allowing, with minimal investment, to significantly increase the volume of the product, and it also improves the appearance and structure of the product. Talc helps hide pigmentation and minor damage to the skin, making it smooth and silky. Thanks to talc, makeup lasts longer. Despite its natural origin, this mineral is not so simple! The safety of talc depends on the degree of its purification: highly purified talc is safe, but its production is more expensive, but poorly purified (cheap) talc may contain asbestos and other harmful impurities.

Another common ingredient in foundation creams is chemical UV filters.

. Considered perhaps the most allergenic components of cosmetics, they can accumulate in the body and cause skin irritation. Thus, traces of the popular chemical sunscreen filter oxybenzone were found in the urine of 96% of Americans tested, with levels three times higher in women than in men.

The list of dangerous ingredients in decorative cosmetics includes lead.

. Roskontrol experts found it in lipstick from such popular brands as Dior, Maybelline, Max Factor and Oriflame - in amounts of 3.19, 3.70, 4.23, and 4.37 mg/kg, respectively. Even though the numbers do not exceed the permissible limit of 5 mg/kg, it should be remembered that this heavy metal accumulates in the body. Lead is not used in cosmetics in its pure form, but it is often included in synthetic dyes, which are cheaper than natural ones, and is responsible for color fastness.

By the way, in decorative items it is the color that often determines our choice. Azo dyes

, synthetic pigments, provide a rich palette of fashionable colors, cosmetics with them are much more affordable, and they are also easier to incorporate into a product’s formulation - in general, they have many advantages. However, azo dyes can cause significant harm to health. Studies of several dozen azo dyes approved in Europe have shown that they penetrate the skin, negatively affect the liver and can release toxic aniline, which, like nitrosamines, can lead to cancer. In addition, azo dyes are one of the causes of allergies.

Go ahead. One of the most serious environmental problems of our time is plastic

— has not spared the beauty industry either. Manufacturers have been adding microplastics to cosmetics for a long time, since this cheap ingredient gives a good decorative effect: it is present in eye shadows as decorative particles, and thanks to it, lipsticks and foundations fit better on the skin. On the other hand, microplastics from cosmetics not only enter the environment and accumulate in it, polluting the soil and water bodies, but also penetrate the human body. It is unlikely that a young girl in her right mind would chew a plastic bag, but lipstick with plastic does not bother her. Polyethylene, polypropylene, polyurethane, nylon - all this plastic “good” is easy to find in budget cosmetics from the supermarket and premium products from perfume stores.

Silicones and microplastics are accompanied by aggressive preservatives

: parabens, triclosan, etc. They guarantee long-term storage of cosmetics - longer than natural ones. Plus, they are cheaper and more stable in the formulation, and are easier to technologically introduce into the product.

As a rule, all these components are used in decorative cosmetics for one simple reason - they are cheaper and easier to work with. That is, in essence, when buying decorative products with synthetic ingredients, you are paying more for the fashion brand, and not for the contents of the tubes.

A completely different matter is natural decorative cosmetics, the most valuable thing in which is the composition.

Pros and cons of natural decorative cosmetics

In truly natural decorative cosmetics you will never find what I described above. Its manufacturers are true to their principles: they take natural ingredients and create high-quality products from them. However, using natural ingredients also has its pros and cons.

Instead of silicones, manufacturers of natural decorative products use vegetable oils

, which, although they do not create a “non-breathing” film, have their own nuances. They are more difficult to introduce technologically, a product with oils is more difficult to make comfortable in terms of application and absorption, so technologists need to carefully select oils and hone the recipes. In addition, vegetable oils as a natural component reduce the shelf life of the product, and are more expensive than silicones.

Chemical UV filters in natural cosmetics are replaced with physical ones. The most popular of them is titanium dioxide

and
zinc oxide
, extracted from natural minerals. They are safe in decorative cosmetics and, in accordance with the law, are allowed for use without restrictions in concentration. Titanium dioxide is a common food coloring.

However, physical UV filters are more difficult to use: more effort must be made to develop a comfortable liquid texture. Products with chemical UV filters are easier to apply to the skin and are absorbed faster.

Azo dyes in natural decorative products are replaced with natural pigments

(for example, minerals ground into pollen), which, of course, are more expensive, but do not cause allergies or irritation. Mineral foundation powders were developed in the 70s of the 20th century specifically for people after deep peels, laser resurfacing and other serious interventions that make the skin especially vulnerable. As for a good decorative effect without the use of microplastics, it is achieved by honing the recipes.

Aggressive preservatives give way to components such as organic acids

(benzoic, lemon, milk),
silver citrate
, complex preservative systems based on
honeysuckle extract
. Such preservatives give the product a shorter shelf life, and some types of natural preservatives are more likely to cause allergies than parabens, which in turn are dangerous due to cumulative harm.

And yet, natural decorative materials, in my opinion, have more advantages compared to conventional ones.

Cosmetics with synthetic ingredients create the appearance of beautiful skin: wash it off - hello, acne and other troubles! Natural decorative cosmetics also hide skin imperfections, but at the same time heal it through herbal ingredients and mineral pigments, so that the skin continues to breathe, does not experience additional stress and becomes more well-groomed.

In terms of variety of formats and breadth of assortment, natural decorative cosmetics have long been on par with premium cosmetics from perfume stores. Can't imagine makeup without highlighters, concealers and correctors? Yes, as much as you like! For example, the Era Minerals color palette includes more than 250 shades!

By the way, there is one subtlety with mineral cosmetics - only crumbly ones can be truly mineral. If they try to sell you a creamy or liquid “mineral” product, it may contain synthetic components - carefully check the composition.

Personal experience of a minimalist

I never liked to put on makeup, but I always wanted to look fresh and beautiful - and only thanks to natural decorative cosmetics I began to enjoy this ritual.
And even though Era Minerals mineral cosmetics have always been a permanent fixture in my cosmetic bag, in recent years I have managed to try natural decorative products from different brands, and therefore I can easily name worthy competitors to conventional cosmetics. Good decorative cosmetics are made by the Americans 100% Pure and the French ZAO make-up - they have everything from foundation and concealers to mascara and lipstick. The German Dr. Hauschka and Annemarie Boerlind compete with them with the same rich assortment. Cosmetics from these brands cost the same as products from popular brands from perfume stores, and are not inferior to them in quality, and even superior in composition.

Of course, there are budget decorative products, for example, Dizao or Natura Siberica, but you cannot expect the same results from them as from more expensive brands. Natura Siberica lipstick, even if certified by ECOCERT, can never compare with 100% Pure lipstick, which is noticeably more expensive, but fits better, looks more beautiful and lasts longer on the lips.

Today there are many options for natural decorative cosmetics - for every taste and color. Expand your horizons, try things... and don't eat plastic!

Rating

And yet, what is the best natural cosmetics? Reviews about brands may be different, but the rating is compiled according to its own rules. The main one is Kx - the criterion of chemicalization. And this is what happens:

  1. DETSINA (Russia) – 0 (Kx).
  2. Aqualife (Russia) – 0.
  3. “Taiga Istok” (Russia) – 0.
  4. Phytotherathrie (France) – 0.
  5. “Biobeauty” (Russia) – 0.
  6. Living Nature (New Zealand) – 0.
  7. Lakshmi (Italy) – 0.

Surely, not everyone has heard of such companies/brands. But the fact that they occupy first positions in the ranking already means a lot. One can debate endlessly about what kind of cosmetics to use and what price it will cost to purchase exclusively natural products. There are many opinions, and few are willing to believe even professionals in the field of dermatology and cosmetology. But the advantages of natural cosmetics are obvious, even if we mention the simplest facts: it is not addictive, does not clog pores, and has a healing effect. However, the choice always remains with the consumer.

Truth and fiction about natural cosmetics

There is a lot of talk around organics. Let's look at the most popular questions and find out where the truth is and where the fiction is.

organic cosmetics

Myth: Natural or organic cosmetics should not contain preservatives.

Of course, this is not true. Any cosmetic product without the use of preservatives becomes a favorable environment for the growth of bacteria. By opening the package, you run the risk of seeing within a week how the color, smell and consistency of the product has changed, if there is no component that impedes the life of microorganisms.

Another thing is which preservative is included in the product and in what concentration. Natural and organic cosmetics use only those permitted by eco-standards, which we wrote about above. Essential oils, alcohol, and acids often play this role.

Dry products can do without preservatives at all, so when buying a mask or scrub in powder form, you can be sure of its composition. Laboratorium, Manufactory House of Nature and other brands have such masks.

Also in the range of natural and organic products you can see a large number of oils or oil-based products. To extend their shelf life, antioxidants such as vitamin E are used.

Truth: Natural cosmetics are less effective

Organic cosmetics for the face, hair and body most often cannot provide quick visible results, unlike traditional products. Its effect manifests itself gradually, cumulatively, subject to regular use.

Also, such products have a limited “sphere of influence.” Moisturizing, nutrition, cleansing - she can handle this. But, for example, if you want to lighten pigmentation 100%, you are unlikely to be able to solve the problem using natural remedies. Also, the most effective and efficient anti-aging cosmetics contain, as a rule, effective synthetic components that are not found in organic products.

When choosing care for your skin, it is important to understand what result you are expecting. Choose those products that suit your needs. Then it won’t matter what composition it has if it produces results.

Myth: You can’t be allergic to natural cosmetics

We are all different: tall and short, slender and plump, pale and dark... And the body cannot work the same. Therefore, allergic reactions are possible for everyone. Moreover, to produce natural care, active plant ingredients in high concentrations and aggressive essential oils are usually used. Most often, reactions occur to citrus fruits, conifers, cinnamon, cloves, eucalyptus, rosemary, and thyme. Be careful when using organic cosmetics for children - they most often experience allergic reactions to such components.

Always do a skin test before using a new product. And this applies not only to natural products, but also to the use of cosmetics in general.

Truth: natural cosmetics have a strong and unpleasant odor

Natural products are indeed characterized by a rather bright aroma. This is due to the use of natural essential oils and the absence of perfume fragrances, which are designed to balance odors.

Myth: Organic hair products are less effective at cleansing.

Sulfate-free shampoos generally do not provide much foam and take time to get used to. For the first 2-3 weeks, the hair will seem dry, unwashed, and will become dirty faster. This does not mean that the shampoo does not work - it is just milder. After the adjustment time has passed, you will definitely feel a positive effect. In any case, when choosing a hair cleanser, focus on your scalp type.
