The turkey leg is a fairly massive part of the whole carcass. The drumstick is tasty dark meat on a large bone. This meat is very tasty, and you need to cook it successfully.
Why turkey?
Turkey is an incredibly tasty and very healthy product. Turkey meat is dietary and suitable for everyone to eat; it does not cause allergies at all. Turkey meat is recommended to be used in the diet of pregnant women and given as complementary food to infants. The bird stores many vitamins and beneficial microelements. It is rich in sodium, calcium, iron and manganese.
It is believed that turkey is tougher than chicken, so when preparing turkey steak, you need to take into account a lot of nuances to ensure that the meat turns out tasty and juicy.
Turkey drumstick baked with honey-mustard sauce: step by step with photos
The meat of this bird is rich in beneficial vitamins and minerals. It is incredibly soft and not at all greasy. And the cooking process will not seem too complicated even for the most novice cooks. Turkey meat is very popular in America. There it is in second place in popularity after chicken. Perhaps not a single Hollywood family movie is complete without mentioning Thanksgiving or Christmas, where the main dish in the center of the table is, of course, the traditional turkey.
Turkey meat can be boiled, fried, added to salads, or baked in the oven entirely (if, of course, you have a spacious oven, because turkey is a fairly large bird).
But today we will not test your oven for capacity, but will cook only part of the turkey, namely the drumstick with honey mustard sauce.
To prepare turkey drumstick baked with honey mustard sauce, you will need:
turkey drumstick – 1 pc. honey – 2 tbsp. French mustard – 4 tbsp. (mustard with whole grains) garlic – 5-6 cloves salt and pepper to taste favorite seasonings (I used oregano and basil)
How to cook turkey drumstick baked with honey mustard sauce:
1. Wash the turkey drumstick. Remove small feathers from the skin using tweezers. Rinse under water and dry with a clean towel. 2. Using a large knife, remove the edge of the bone. Thanks to this, the leg will look more aesthetically pleasing after baking.
3.Finely chop the garlic.
4. Make small cuts in the drumstick and add garlic. Try to make cuts evenly throughout the meat. If you want to avoid damaging the skin with cuts, simply move it and then return it to its place.
5. Prepare the marinade. To do this, you need to combine all the spices, mustard, honey, salt and pepper in one bowl. Mix everything.
6. Thoroughly rub the drumstick with the marinade.
Wrap in several layers of foil to prevent juice from leaking out during baking.
7. Bake in an oven preheated to 180 degrees for 80 minutes.
Then unfold the foil and let it brown (10-15 minutes)
Serve garnished with greens. Any vegetable salad would be an excellent side dish. Bon appetit!

General cooking recommendations
You can cook turkey on the bone in the oven or in a frying pan. To achieve the desired effect, you can use two methods simultaneously, then the meat will not lose juice and will turn out tender.
Don't chop the turkey, we don't want a chop, we want a real steak. It is recommended to hit it lightly, just a couple of times, with a hammer on both sides to give the piece the ideal shape and make the steak a little softer.
There are several recipes for turkey on the bone. Let's look at the most popular of them.
Turkey steak on the bone (mixed cooking method)
This is exactly the case when we cook meat first in a frying pan and then in the oven. Ingredients included:
- turkey;
- onion garlic;
- pepper, salt, vegetable oil.
First you need to salt and pepper the turkey pieces on the bone, leave them for a few minutes and work on the onions and garlic. Cut the vegetables into half rings and fry until golden brown. At this time, the turkey meat will marinate. Fry the steaks in a frying pan with a ribbed bottom on both sides until they are covered with a crispy, appetizing crust. Then place the pieces and vegetables in a bowl with high sides, add half a glass of water and place in the oven for 20 minutes, maintaining the temperature at 180 degrees.
Thus, the meat remains tender, becomes juicy and very tasty.
Turkey leg steak
In order to cook a steak, you need an additional device, namely a grill or barbecue. If you don’t have these devices, then you shouldn’t tackle the steak.
For steak lovers, there is an option: a juicy turkey drumstick.
It passes perfectly through the entire thickness in the oven. There is no shame in serving such a dish at the biggest celebrations.
List of products:
- cream - 1 tbsp. l.;
- pepper, salt;
- grain mustard - 1 tbsp. l.;
- vegetable oil - 1 tbsp. l.;
- shin.
Preparation steps:
- You need to cut the meat into pieces of equal thickness.
- Prepare a marinade from sour cream, mustard and pepper.
- Dip each slice in the marinade and let sit for 45 minutes.
- Before cooking, you need to heat the oven to 180 degrees.
- Grease a baking sheet with sunflower oil and place the turkey on it.
- Leave the turkey in the oven for 30 minutes.
- Once cooked, cover tightly with foil and leave for 10 minutes.
Drumsticks can also be stuffed with anything you can't stuff a turkey with. There are a lot of options. It all depends on your taste preferences and imagination: porcini mushrooms, citrus fruits, nuts, dried fruits, cranberries.
Perhaps you have even more interesting options, for example, for stuffing chicken.
Don't be afraid to use them on turkey. We are sure that the result will please you.
You need to take:
- turkey drumstick;
- apple;
- prunes or dried apricots, which must be poured with boiling water;
- 5 thin strips of bacon.
You need to select the bone. To do this, carefully cut the leg from the side. For those who like to serve the dish on the bone, leave the bottom part. The meat needs to be beaten, salt and pepper. Place an apple and prunes with dried apricots in the middle. You can do this in layers, then the dish will look great when cut.
We give the leg its original appearance, roll it up very carefully to preserve the layers. To keep the turkey juicy, wrap it in bacon. We put all this in the oven, periodically pour the leg with the juice that is released during baking.
Turkey meat with bone in a frying pan
A classic turkey steak is made from the drumstick of the bird. The recipe is very simple, no frills are needed here. The dish includes:
- turkey steak;
- salt, pepper, spices.
Before frying, it is recommended to marinate the meat, first coating it with spices. 30 minutes is enough for the steak to absorb the aromatic seasonings. Next, place the meat in a frying pan with thick walls and fry it on each side. It is enough to hold each side for a few minutes so that a crust appears and the juice is sealed inside the piece.
The last, final stage of cooking is simmering the meat for 15 minutes in the same frying pan. The dish must be served hot directly from the stove and cooked for one serving. It is not recommended to eat a heated steak - the taste is not the same and the toughness is record-breaking.
How to cook Turkey with Honey
1. If your turkey drumsticks are frozen, remove excess moisture with paper towels. Salt and season to taste.
2. Stuff the drumsticks with chopped garlic.
3. Mix mustard with honey and rub the resulting sauce onto the drumsticks. Leave the bird to marinate for an hour in the refrigerator.
4. Place the marinated drumsticks on foil.
5. After this, wrap it in foil and place it in an oven preheated to 180 degrees.
6. The drumsticks are baked for about 35-40 minutes. If you want a golden brown crust, 10 minutes before cooking, open the foil and let the turkey sit in the oven without it.
7. While the honey turkey is baking, you can prepare the side dish. For me it's rice and vegetables. Serve the meat hot.
Turkey steak on the bone in the oven
One of the most common ways to prepare tender meat. It is recommended to add vegetables, then the taste of turkey meat becomes pleasant and soft. The recipe includes:
- turkey;
- tomatoes;
- vegetable oil, spices.
As before, marinate the meat with spices and leave it for a while. Cut the tomatoes into thin slices. Place the steaks on a greased plate and place the tomatoes on top. Bake in the oven for 40 minutes. Once soaked in tomato juice, turkey meat becomes more tender and juicy. For added piquancy, 5 minutes before cooking, you can sprinkle each steak with grated soft cheese.
Turkey sauce
Exotic sauces, such as orange, are perfect for turkey meat. It's easy to prepare. Contains:
Peel the oranges and squeeze the juice out of them. Pour the liquid into the pan, add sugar and orange peels. Boil it all, stirring constantly. When the sauce thickens, you need to place the steaks in the pan and turn the meat until it is covered with a beautiful, glossy crust.
Meat fried in this sauce acquires an unusual taste and piquancy. Citruses add sourness, but do not interrupt the taste of the main dish.
Turkey steak can be served with any light side dish or vegetable salad. If the meat was baked with additives, then it is recommended to avoid additives altogether and serve only the finished dish. Follow the recommendations and your turkey steak will turn out juicy and soft.
Turkey meat is a very tasty, satisfying and dietary product. There are millions of ways to prepare turkey steaks, and each of them is suitable not only for an ordinary family dinner, but also for treating dear guests! In this publication, from a huge number of recipes, we have selected 9 of the most delicious, but outrageously simple, so even a novice cook can handle the preparation.
Americans call this bird “Turkey”, considering its homeland to be Turkey. In our country, the word “turkey” comes from an association with the fact that this bird first appeared among the Indians. Despite the fact that turkey meat in our area was previously not as popular (not at all deservedly so, by the way) as, say, in Europe or America, today buying turkey in stores both fresh and frozen is not a big problem.
The meat of this wonderful bird is rich in vitamins (primarily B vitamins) and minerals (phosphorus, calcium, iron) that are incredibly beneficial to our body. Turkey meat is low in calories, contains very little cholesterol and does not cause allergies. Turkey is ideal for children, older people, or people with weakened immune systems. Athletes consume turkey meat as a source of healthy protein.
In my subjective opinion, turkey meat is tastier than chicken, and it is digested as easily as veal or beef - which is already an indisputable scientific fact. So, go ahead. Cooking turkey.
To prepare turkey leg baked with mushrooms, you will need:
turkey leg – 1 pc. mushrooms – 150-200 g mayonnaise – 4-5 tbsp. onion – 1 pc. garlic - 3-4 heads salt and pepper to taste, favorite seasonings herbs for decoration
How to cook turkey leg baked with mushrooms:
1. Wash the leg and dry it with a towel. Use tweezers to remove remaining feathers, if any. 2. Using a knife, remove the edge of the bone to give the finished dish an aesthetic appearance.
3. Prepare the marinade. To do this, cut the onion into half rings.
4. Pass the garlic through a press.
5. Combine mayonnaise, garlic, salt, favorite spices and pepper in one bowl.
Mix thoroughly and rub the leg. Place in a cool place for 3-4 hours.
6. Rinse the mushrooms under running water. Cut into slices or strips.
7. Place a sheet of foil on the table. Place a “pillow” of half the mushrooms in the middle and brush with a small amount of mayonnaise.
Place the leg on the mushrooms and “cover” them with mushrooms.
Add a little salt on top. Wrap the foil carefully. It is advisable to use several layers of foil to prevent the sauce from leaking onto the baking sheet. 8. Bake in an oven preheated to 180 degrees for 60-80 minutes. Then unfold the foil and let the leg brown (10-15 minutes).
Serve with potatoes, garnished with herbs. Serve the sauce separately or immediately on a platter.
Bon appetit!
Basic frying pan recipe
Turkey steaks are cooked very quickly and easily in a frying pan. The main thing here is not to overcook the pieces on the fire, otherwise they will lose their juiciness. To prepare the dish, you will need pieces of breast or the thick part of the legs (thin ones will not turn out as they should be). The recipe is ideal for the busiest housewives who do not resort to preparing semi-finished products, but prefer home cooking. We won’t be cooking for long, the process will take us no more than 20 minutes in total!
Minimum products required:
- steaks - according to the number of eaters (the thickness of each is from 2 to 4 cm, the size is up to you);
- thyme;
- salt;
- black pepper;
- a couple of cloves of garlic;
- 2 tablespoons each of vegetable oil and butter.
- Steaks need to be prepared: remove the films, wash the pieces of meat, and be sure to dry them with a paper towel.
- The meat can be lightly pounded, but this is purely optional.
- Mix salt and pepper and brush each steak with the mixture.
- Heat the frying pan well (this is very important, since on a cold or slightly warm surface the meat will begin to release juice, but it should remain inside).
- Pour in vegetable oil, place pieces of meat, fry over high heat for 1-2 minutes on each side, a crust should appear. Once the steaks are browned on both sides, reduce the heat to medium and fry for another 4-5 minutes per side.
- Place the cooked meat first on a paper towel to remove excess oil.
- Finely chop the garlic and crush the thyme with a spoon or rolling pin.
- Melt the butter in a clean frying pan and add the thyme and garlic. Fry until lightly browned. Then drain the oil so that there are no pieces of garlic in it. Pour this sauce over the meat.
Boiled rice or risotto is ideal as a side dish for such steaks.
The neutral taste of cereals will not overpower the taste of meat with butter sauce, and vegetables will only emphasize it!
With mushroom flavor
How to cook turkey steaks in a special way, but quickly? This recipe fully meets these requirements, so we advise everyone to take a closer look at it. It will be cooked so that there are no mushrooms in the dish, but their taste is clearly felt.
- steaks according to the number of people at the table;
- fresh or dried mushrooms (just not champignons; to be honest, they have no taste at all);
- butter and sunflower oil - by eye, then it will be clear how much is needed;
- liquid cream or full-fat milk - by eye;
- 1-2 cloves of garlic;
- spices and salt.
- Wash the steaks and dry. If there were films in the pieces, remove them.
- Mix salt and spices, rub a little on each piece of meat, lightly pounded if desired.
- Heat sunflower oil in a frying pan, just a little bit, the steaks should not drown in it.
- Over high heat, fry the pieces until crisp on each side. Then over medium heat for another 4-5 minutes on each side.
- Place the steaks on a towel, then into a dish.
- In another frying pan or saucepan, melt the butter and fry the mushrooms cut into pieces. When ready, add crushed garlic, a little salt and cream. There should be so much liquid that it does not even cover the mushrooms - up to half. Bring to a boil, remove from heat, and blend into a sauce.

It’s very simple and quick to cook, so the housewife will have more time for her beloved self: she can either do her hair more beautifully, or sleep longer!

- fresh tomatoes;
- fresh bell pepper (according to the number of guests);
- sour cream and mustard;
- a little mayonnaise;
- hard cheese;
- garlic - 2-3 cloves;
- salt and any seasonings, fresh dill.
- Wash the steaks and dry.
- Crush the garlic, mix it with salt and spices, mayonnaise. Coat each piece and place on a greased baking sheet.
- Cut the tomatoes into wide slices.
- Peel the pepper like this: cut off the top with the stalk, you should get cups, remove the seeds from them. Cut the pulp of the pepper that remains on the top with the stalk into cubes, and leave the cups for now, they will be useful in the future.
- Place tomatoes on steaks and chopped peppers on top. Pepper a little, salt a little.
- Bake meat with vegetables for 35-40 minutes at 180 degrees.
- A few minutes before it’s ready, you need to prepare a sour cream and cheese sauce for each guest: grate the cheese, mix with sour cream, dill and other herbs (chop first), add a little ready-made mustard. Place in cups of peppers, put in the microwave for 2-3 minutes - the cheese should melt and the cups should be slightly baked.
Place steaks and fresh or roasted vegetables on plates as a side dish. Place a cup of pepper with sauce inside next to it (they can then be cut, the latter will flow out into the plate, or you can dip meat and vegetables into the cup).
Turkey steak in a slow cooker
The meat obtained from the slow cooker is especially tender and soft, as if it had been cooked in the oven! A fragrant, juicy, crispy-skinned turkey steak is something that will decorate the dinner table and delight your household! We offer you to try the original preparation of turkey meat in mushroom breading, baked in a slow cooker.
- 4-5 steaks (more or less is possible);
- dried mushrooms (porcini, honey mushrooms);
- 2 eggs (if small, then three);
- hard cheese;
- a little sunflower oil;
- salt and seasonings.
The preparation is as easy as shelling pears, and all the ingredients are such that you don’t have to look for it in stores or remember a complex recipe. That is why the recipe, although very interesting, is suitable for everyday cooking.
Cooking instructions:
- The steaks need to be cut lengthwise and inward to create pockets. If you don't get pockets, just cut as indicated, then open like a book. Rinse and dry.
- Grate the cheese and place it in the steak pockets.
- Beat the eggs in a bowl.
- Dried mushrooms need to be grated or chopped in a blender to form crumbs.
- Salt and season pieces of meat stuffed with cheese. Roll each steak in mushroom breading, then in egg, and again in breading.
- Pour a little oil into the multicooker bowl, fry the meat on both sides on a hot surface until maximum.
- Then you need to wash the bowl to remove excess oil, grease it a little, and lay out the steaks.
- Cover with a lid, set to “Bake” and wait for the ready signal.
How to bake in foil
Turkey steak in the oven turns out very juicy and soft if you use foil for baking. Add a little lemon flavor and the dish will be worthy of a restaurant menu! We will cook it in portions - each piece in a separate package: this makes it more convenient to serve the meat to guests.
- turkey flesh, cut into steaks 2-4 cm thick;
- onion;
- lemon;
- salt and ground black pepper;
- mayonnaise or sour cream;
- dill.
Excessive seasonings will spoil the taste and interrupt it. But a little lemon and dill will highlight the aroma of turkey meat, the meat will turn out excellent! It is not necessary to use mayonnaise or sour cream, but it is still recommended.
- Prepare the steaks - wash and dry.
- Roll the lemon on the table with your palm, pressing it, this makes it easier to squeeze out the juice. Squeeze out the last one by cutting the citrus into two parts.
- Mix mayonnaise/sour cream with lemon juice, chopped dill, salt and pepper.
- Cut the foil into pieces for wrapping the steaks.
- Roll a piece of meat in the sauce and place it in the center of the foil. Place a couple of onion slices on top. Lift the edges of the foil, connect and twist. You will get a bag of meat, place it on a baking sheet. And so on for every piece.
- Bake for 40 minutes at 180 degrees.
It is better to serve meat with lemon with a side dish of boiled rice or spaghetti. Potatoes will dull the taste, and fresh vegetables will completely kill them.
Turkey drumstick in the oven in a sleeve
If you don't have foil in your house, you can safely use a baking sleeve. The meat will turn out excellent, it will be juicy, tender and tasty. You need to make sure that the film completely covers the meat.
The juice will not leak, and all the flavors of this wonderful meat will be preserved.
In addition, this is an excellent option for a delicious diet dish. We prepare a quick and tasty dish of boneless turkey drumsticks.
Ingredients of the dish:
- mustard beans - 700 gr.;
- meat - 1 kg;
- olive oil - 1 tsp;
- seasonings;
- salt.

- A pre-prepared piece of turkey must be sprinkled with vegetable oil.
- Rub it with mustard using light massage movements.
- Add all necessary spices.
- Leave the dish for 40 minutes to steep.
- Preheat the oven to 180 degrees.
- Bake the drumstick airtight in a roasting bag.
- Make sure that no holes form and the meat does not lose moisture.
- Remember that the sleeve will increase in size as the dish heats up. Therefore, you need to place the baking sheet on the middle or lower level.
- Carefully cut the film so as not to burn yourself with the juice.
- When serving, remove the meat from the leg.
You can serve with a side dish, vegetables or just without anything. The juice that remains can be an excellent dressing for a side dish.
Step-by-step recipe with photos
Turkey is an excellent dietary meat that cooks quickly. I like everything from turkey: cutlets, chebureki, frying and much more. Today I will cook turkey steaks in the oven. You can bake steaks in foil, or in the “turbo grill” mode, but I will bake them in a sleeve. The result is excellent - the meat is soft and tender with a crispy crust on top.
I will cook a turkey steak with a bone in the oven in a simple and quick marinade of vegetable oil, garlic, salt, pepper and thyme.
We buy the steaks already cut at the butcher shop, wash them and pat them dry with paper towels.
Rub the pieces with salt and pepper and sprinkle with dry herbs. Add garlic and vegetable oil. Let the meat marinate for 20-30 minutes.
Place the steaks in a ceramic baking dish, and the dish in a baking sleeve and close the sleeve with a stapler. Place in the oven for 25 minutes at a temperature of 230-240 degrees. Then carefully open the sleeve and let it fry for 15 minutes.
Serve turkey steaks baked in the oven piping hot.
You can serve the dish with any side dish. Bon appetit!
Indian leg with honey and mustard
Greetings to all lovers and professionals of food and cooking!
This is my first experience in writing out what and how I cooked, so I will be glad to see any comments and advice.
About myself: I was born in Tashkent, but I have been living in Moscow for many years. The path to culinary mastery was thorny, and I consider its starting point to be the moment when, in my first year, while cooking eighteen-ruble dumplings in the dormitory, I added bay leaf and black pepper to the pan. Since then, I have become known as a gourmet and generally an expert in everything related to cooking.
I decided to start with this dish, firstly, because of its relative simplicity, and secondly, because I compiled this recipe without turning to any third-party resources, be it the Internet, books or TV. Undoubtedly, something similar has been described before, but I see this dish as the most “mine”.
So let's get started! We will need:
a pair of turkey drumsticks (in my case, total weight 800 grams). Yes, yes, the same ones with tendons inside that terrify many ladies.
Among the spices, black and allspice and cilantro seeds , often called coriander, are useful. In general, about half a tablespoon.
In addition, for the marinade, you need honey (I used linden), mustard , vegetable oil and salt .
Next, we need to free the legs from the skin along the entire fleshy part without damaging it:
In my opinion, the verb “stun” is most suitable for this process.
Now we take a thin, sharp knife and begin to inflict multiple puncture wounds on the long-suffering legs of the turkey victim. Stab often to the bone, without fear of damaging the tendons (turkeys, take care of yours!). When it seems that it’s enough, prick it once or twice and add/pour in spices (coarsely ground in a mortar) and other liquids. The photo shows puncture wounds and the base of the future marinade:
Roll up your sleeves and spread the thick marinade evenly over the meat. When the leg is completely covered with it, roll the skin back, as it was in the store. In the photo, one leg is broken, the other is not yet:
Place the prepared legs in a heat-resistant container with high edges and place them directly in the container (sic!) into a baking sleeve. We tie the sleeve, not forgetting to leave holes to release excess pressure:
I don't like to poke holes in the sleeve with toothpicks and I just don't pull the edges too tight. I don’t think this affects the result, but a punctured sleeve once burst right in my face and I suffered physically and mentally.
Place the resulting candy in a cold oven and turn it on at 50°C. I set the mode with a fan, if there is no such thing, then it’s okay, we’ll use what we have.
Now the oven is warming up, and the meat begins to marinate at an accelerated rate, but is not actually cooked yet. From experience I can say that you need to simmer it at a low temperature for at least 40 minutes. Yes, friends, it’s hard to look at raw meat that’s just warming up. But believe me, it's worth it!
After the set period has expired, turn on the oven at ~210 °C. When the temperature in the oven equalizes, switch it to fanless mode and wait another 45 minutes (depending on the weight of the product and the oven).
When the wait becomes completely unbearable, open the oven and cut off the top of the sleeve to allow the meat to brown. Achtung! I never managed to avoid getting burned! And from the escape of a fragrant cloud, raids on the kitchen by household members and even neighbors are possible! Oven mode, if possible return to fan mode.
In about ten minutes the meat is ready.
The meat comes off the bone perfectly and even the tendons pose no problem.
I recommend that you pay close attention to the broth at the bottom of the container. It is fabulously tasty and perfectly serves as a kind of sauce for a side dish, for which I had rice:
Bon appetit!
