Start your day with dessert + 6 healthy sweet breakfast recipes for every day
Have you heard Barbra Streisand say, “Life is too short, so start with dessert”? I think many heard and were horrified. Sweets in the morning - how is that possible?!
But what about the jump in blood sugar, insulin levels and many other concerns that nutritionists recite to us?
It is worth noting that all of the listed “horror stories” are by no means unfounded, at the same time, let’s remember that we are talking, first of all, about refined “white” sugar, the harm from which has already been studied in detail and is beyond doubt. It is known that excessive consumption of refined sugar negatively affects not only the condition of teeth and figure, but also promotes the proliferation of pathogenic microflora inside the body, depletes the body's calcium supply (which is actively consumed in the process of sugar absorption), but most importantly, sugar increases almost 20 times reduces the strength of our immunity! Agree, it sounds scary.
And the question immediately arises: “What sweet things should you not eat at all?”
Sweet taste in Ayurveda
Ayurveda says that all 6 tastes should be present in our diet: bitter, sour, salty, spicy, astringent and, of course, sweet! Moreover, sweet taste is especially important for women! It makes us soft, peaceful (it’s not for nothing that women often eat up negative emotions with “something tasty”), gives us energy and beauty. Sweet is the taste of pleasure, it is the sweetness of life, and a woman should under no circumstances deprive herself of this feeling. In addition, in addition to the emotional impact, sweets regulate the functioning of female hormones, so a woman, according to the Vedas, should receive a sweet taste every day, but in the right form and at the right time. Eating sweets at night will not bring anything good except extra pounds, but in the morning, when the fire of digestion is most active, the “right” sugars will have the most beneficial effect on the female body. Another argument in favor of treating yourself to sweets in the morning is our modern pace of life. In the evening, when the body as a whole is tired, there is a great temptation to reward yourself with something sweet and harmful after all the stress endured during the day. In contrast, if you give yourself the necessary boost of gastronomic pleasure in the morning, the whole day will pass easily and brightly.
It's not just sugar that's sweet
Where do we get sweet taste from if not from sugar? It turns out there is a sweet taste
- in all fruits and some vegetables (sweet potatoes, beets, carrots)
- in dairy products (milk, cream, butter)
- and whole grain products (wheat, rice, barley, corn)
- in legumes (lentils, peas)
- in honey and dried fruits
- as well as in some herbs and spices (licorice root, red cloves, basil, dill, mint)
Agree, this is a decent list of products from which you can prepare a huge variety of dishes so that breakfast does not seem monotonous and boring. In addition to the products from which we cook, it is also important to remember that representatives of Vata and Kapha constitutions should prefer a warm breakfast, and Pita constitutions should prefer a refreshing one.
And to make it very easy for you to start your day sweetly, I’m sharing several recipes for quick and healthy sweet breakfasts.
