Peeling lips: what to do?

What to do if lips dry and peel: home care recipes

Dryness and peeling of lips occur in almost all of us, not only women, but also children and men. Lips can not only dry out, peel, but even crack. As a result, inflammation sometimes occurs on them and in the corners of the mouth.

To avoid such problems, you need to be more attentive to lip care, choose the right caring cosmetics, lipstick, and follow some rules, which we will discuss below.

The well-being of the skin of the lips is influenced by a variety of factors, both external and internal. Therefore, it is important to know the main reasons that can make plump and pink lips wrinkled, cracked and sore.

What leads to dry and flaky lips

  • The first and most common reason: lips dry out due to unfavorable weather factors. The sun, wind, and frost can greatly dry out delicate skin, especially when it is not protected.
  • The second important factor: dehydration, which affects the condition of the entire skin and is especially evident on the lips. Therefore, in order for your skin to always look fresh and healthy, you need to drink enough liquid and regularly moisturize your skin.
  • Sometimes this is a consequence of bad habits such as smoking.
  • But there are also more commonplace causes of peeling and cracking: the habit of licking, biting or chewing lips. Sometimes getting rid of them is enough to make the problem go away.
  • The use of incorrect and low-quality cosmetics and irregular care also lead to dryness and peeling.
  • Very often you need to pay attention to your diet, since vitamin deficiency can also cause similar problems.

Let's name the effect vitamins have on the skin of the lips: - Vitamin A (retinol) retains moisture in the skin, maintains the elasticity and shape of the lips. To prevent sagging skin, include animal fats, eggs, liver, carrots, onions and apricots in your diet.

— Vitamin E (tocopherol) is involved in the regulation of the water balance of the skin, nourishes and improves the functioning of the capillary system. To maintain elasticity, you need to eat more seeds, avocados and vegetable oils. — B vitamins affect metabolic processes in skin cells, so if they are deficient, lips often become inflamed and cracked, and may develop a rash.

Eggs, dairy products, grains and beans fill this gap well.

— Vitamin C directly affects the formation of skin collagen and restoration processes in the body. To replenish it, you need to eat more vegetables, berries and fruits such as sweet peppers, citrus fruits, sea buckthorn and rose hips.

The condition of our lips often depends on health problems, such as diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, diabetes, thyroid problems, kidney failure, and some skin diseases. In these cases, we recommend seeking the help of specialists, because the main thing is to identify and treat the cause.

What you need to have well-groomed lips

If dry and flaky lips are not associated with any disease, you can use folk remedies that will help heal the skin and make your lips beautiful.

At home, it is easy to find natural products for scrubs and masks that will help the skin of your lips. Using them is very simple, but to see a positive result, you should do it regularly and consistently. Lip ointment: mix cocoa powder and butter and place in a water bath.

Bring to a boil and simmer for a few minutes. You will get an effective remedy for peeling skin on your lips. Masks made from sour cream or butter: apply these products to your lips for 20-30 minutes before going to bed. This will relieve you from dryness. Honey scrub mask: just rub honey on your lips. Your lips will be smooth and juicy.

Baby cream: apply as a mask on the lips for 10-15 minutes. Oil masks: cosmetic oils made from wheat grains, grape seeds and sea buckthorn are an excellent remedy for dry and flaky lips. It’s good to add a few drops of vitamins A and E to them.

Exfoliating Scrub: Use a sugar and honey scrub to remove dead skin cells from your lips. Simply mix these products and apply gently onto your skin using your fingertips. For recipes for lip scrubs, read the article: Nourishing scrubs for delicate lips.

Lip massage is simple and useful, it improves blood circulation and has a good effect on the condition of the skin. Lubricate the skin with vegetable oil or balm and massage lightly with your fingertips or simply make patting movements.

10 important tips for lip care

  1. It happens that the skin on the lips becomes very dry due to a reaction to lipstick or toothpaste. Solution: choose a product that does not cause allergies. And do not use toothpastes containing fluoride.
  2. To care for children's lips, use children's products and wean your child from putting and chewing various objects in his mouth. Children especially love to chew pencils.
  3. Before you begin treating dry lips, use scrubs to remove flakes from the surface of the skin.
  4. To heal cracked lips, use vitamin E as a lubricant. Apply it on and around the lips.
  5. To keep your lips moisturized longer, first wet your skin with water and then apply lip balm.
    It will retain moisture in the skin.
  6. When choosing a balm, make sure that it does not contain fragrances and that it is intended to moisturize dry lips.
  7. The next tip concerns smoking. This bad habit leads not only to dryness, but also to pale lips, so quitting smoking is the right decision to maintain beauty and health.
  8. Humidify the air if you stay in a dry room for a long time and use air conditioning.
  9. Always apply lip balm or oil at night to ensure your skin recovers well during the night.
  10. Make it a rule to drink plenty of water and avoid excess alcohol and caffeine consumption - all of this leads to dehydration and affects the condition of your skin.

How to properly apply and use lipstick for dry lips

There are several important rules here: - do not keep lipstick on your lips for too long, give your skin a rest; - do not apply lipstick to chapped lips, so as not to aggravate the problem even more; - choose creamy lipsticks that do not dry out the skin too much;

- before applying lipstick, lubricate your lips with balm.

Is lip scrub dangerous?

Wonder me scrub gently exfoliates lips and prepares them for further care, RUB 2,500.

The Wonder me scrub is applied with light massage movements; it gently cleanses the skin without injuring it or causing any discomfort.
High-quality scrubs contain moisturizing oils, so you need to “keep” them on your lips for at least one or two minutes so that the skin absorbs everything it needs. To avoid the formation of microcracks, it is not advisable to use the scrub more than twice a week. They should be applied by slightly moistening your fingers in warm water and spreading with light circular movements, gently massaging the skin.

Please note that scrubs should not contain salicylic and carbolic acids, phenol and menthol. Yes, they give instant results, but with frequent use they can cause irritation and make your lips even more sensitive.

Peeling lips: what to do and how to treat to avoid cracks and inflammation

  • Causes
  • Additional symptoms
  • What to do
  • How to treat
  • Prevention

Many people experience peeling lips under the influence of various factors. For some, this goes away quickly after using the most ordinary hygienic lipstick.

And for some, it ends with the formation of scabs, cracks and bleeding ulcers, disrupting the usual rhythm of life. It is impossible to eat, laugh, or kiss without pain.

Therefore, you need to approach this problem with all responsibility and use all available methods to eliminate it.

Causes

If your lips dry out and peel, the following reasons may be to blame:

  • adverse weather conditions;
  • allergies to cosmetics, toothpaste, food;
  • reaction of thin and sensitive skin to chemical components of lipstick or gloss;
  • dry indoor air;
  • constant consumption of too hot, sour, salty or spicy foods;
  • the habit of licking, biting, touching your lips with your hands or an incorrect bite, due to which the teeth involuntarily injure them (then the skin around the mouth will peel off constantly);
  • long-term use of antidepressants or other powerful medications;
  • smoking.

Various diseases can also cause peeling:

  • reduced immunity, deficiency of vitamins A, C, E, B2, B9 and B12, iron;
  • dehydration;
  • runny nose and diseases accompanied by high fever;
  • prolonged depression;
  • low hemoglobin level, anemia;
  • problems with the gastrointestinal tract: dysbiosis, ulcers, gastritis, pancreatitis;
  • thyroid diseases;
  • fungal infections (the first sign is that the lips not only peel, but also itch);
  • lack of sugar in the body;
  • diabetes;
  • renal failure;
  • hormonal imbalance in women during pregnancy, menopause, and the postpartum period.

Often the skin peels off after cosmetic procedures: tattooing or implantation of fillers. Certain diseases of the lips can also cause this unpleasant phenomenon:

  • angulitis (peeling in the corners of the lips);
  • herpes (accompanied by rashes and severe itching);
  • mycosis (the sequence of symptoms is as follows: white film - ulcers - scabs - peeling + all this is accompanied by severe itching);
  • cheilitis (inflamed, red edges of the lips);
  • weathering (resembles a burn);
  • Fordyce's disease (ulcers appear).

If your lips peel under the influence of various factors such as weather or cosmetics, dealing with them is quite easy: first we eliminate the root cause (we don’t go out into the cold without chapstick, don’t use expired products and fluoride-containing pastes, etc.), and then treat the damaged skin with wound-healing products and emollient ointments and masks. Everything is much more complicated if it is a symptom of a more serious disease. In this case, it is simply necessary to see a doctor and complete treatment.

Medical reference. If a patient’s lips begin to peel for no apparent reason (they haven’t been chapped, bitten or injured, etc.), the doctor first of all suspects the initial stage of diabetes mellitus or kidney failure.

Additional symptoms

As a rule, peeling is accompanied by other, more unpleasant symptoms:

  • crusts;
  • cracks;
  • itching;
  • redness;
  • pain during talking, eating, kissing;
  • rashes;
  • burning;
  • excessive dryness;
  • spread of inflammation.

Most often, dryness and slight redness appear first, then a thin but dense film forms, which bursts and begins to peel off. The process is different for everyone: for some, dry pieces of skin fall off, for others they are a little damp, stick and look very unaesthetic.

If no measures are taken at this stage, bleeding cracks and crusts with ulcers may then appear. The hyperemia of the entire area around the mouth increases. This can result in infection and spread of inflammation. The pain will gradually increase.

Lifehack. To reduce pain when eating and when your lips are peeling, lubricate them with honey half an hour before meals.

What to do

When peeling appears, everyone has the same question: what to do? If you realize it right away, the problem can be solved at home. If the situation is aggravated by cracks and infection, you cannot do without the help of a dermatologist. To make the treatment more effective, we suggest that you familiarize yourself with the rules for caring for painful lips, which will speed up recovery:

  1. Find out the reason. If she is sick, they need to be treated immediately.
  2. Half an hour before going outside, apply moisturizing and protective medicinal cosmetics: balm or hygienic lipstick.
  3. Take a vitamin complex.
  4. The daily water requirement is 2 liters. Drink hot drinks through a straw. Limit the use of marinades, spices and seasonings. Include in your diet as many foods as possible rich in vitamins A, C, E, B2, B9, B12 and iron.
  5. Avoid scrubs for a while. If lips are flaky and peeling, abrasive particles can further injure already damaged skin.
  6. During treatment, limit exposure to frost or heat. In winter, cover the lower part of your face with a scarf. In summer, wear a wide-brimmed hat and use lipstick with an SPF filter.
  7. Do not use fluoride-containing pastes, low-quality cosmetics, or products with salicylic acid.
  8. Make sure that the air in the room is as humidified as possible.
  9. Get rid of the habit of pulling, biting, licking, touching your lips. Under no circumstances should you peel off the resulting crusts and pieces of skin: they should fall off on their own.
  10. Contact an orthodontist to correct your malocclusion.

The more careful you take care of your lips during the period of peeling, the sooner they will return to normal.

Sad statistics. In 50% of cases, harmless peeling ends in infection and an inflammatory reaction. The reason is rough and untimely removal of exfoliating elements, crusts, and skin particles that should fall off on their own.

How to treat

Treatment is usually external. Medicinal ointments and solutions are used strictly as prescribed by the doctor. Folk remedies and medicinal cosmetics are good only at the initial stage, before cracks and bleeding ulcers appear, or during the rehabilitation period.

Medications

Solutions, tinctures and ointments based on medicinal plants: Aconitum, Belladonna, Arsenicum album, Cinnabaris, Natrium carbonicum. They have a powerful moisturizing effect, promote tissue regeneration, heal cracks, block inflammatory reactions, and relieve pain.

Ointments Panthenol and Bepanten speed up the healing process.

Relieves the inflammatory process, relieves pain, eliminates itching and swelling, and softens peeling. Use no more than 2 times a week. Make sure that the ointment does not get on the oral mucosa. Contraindications: syphilis, age under 2 years, viruses, fungi, bacterial infections, ulcers, wounds, abrasions.

One of the best and most proven products that soften the skin if it is very flaky. Can be used as often as required. The only contraindication is individual intolerance.

Alpha tocopherol acetate and retinol acetate (oil, ampoules, capsules), Aevit in capsules, riboflavin mononucleotide, ascorbic and folic acids, cyanocobalamin (in ampoules). Lubricate your lips with vitamin liquids (the capsules are opened and the oil is squeezed out) three times a day.

I have an opinion. For some time now, there have been ongoing debates on the Internet about whether it is possible to smear your lips with Vaseline. Opponents claim that the paraffin contained in it dries out the skin when creating a protective film. However, both wax and ointment are included in almost all cosmetic products for the care of this delicate part of the face.

Cosmetics

Apply twice a day - half an hour before going outside and before bed.

Mini Green Apple Lip Balm softening balm with green apple extract from the South Korean brand Tony Moly.

Moisturizing balm Egg Balm with fruit extracts from the Russian concern Divage.

Soothing multi-regenerating balm for children and adults Cicaplast Baume B5 from the French company La Roche Posay.

Chocolate is a softening hygienic lipstick with grated cocoa from the Russian concern Spivak.

Moisturizing hyaluronic lipstick, as well as Aevit from Librederm.

Intensive protection from the German company Nivea.

Folk remedies

Rules for using homemade masks for lips that are peeling:

  1. Wash with warm water.
  2. Blot your mouth with a paper napkin.
  3. Gently apply the mask with your fingertips (around the mouth too), making sure that it does not flow and does not get on the mucous membrane.
  4. Action time is from 15 minutes to half an hour.
  5. Rinse off with warm water.
  6. Lubricate with healing balm, moisturizing serum or hygienic lipstick.

After using homemade masks, it is not recommended to go outside for an hour. It is better to do them shortly before bedtime.

Mix 15 g of sour cream, 5 ml of warm extra virgin olive oil, 5 drops of lemon juice.

Melt a small amount of fresh, uncandied honey over a steam bath. Apply directly to the mouth area. The effect of the mask is not limited. You can wear it at home all the time until your skin stops peeling.

Heat 20 ml of any base oil (olive, castor, cocoa, apricot kernels) in a water bath. Mix with 5 g beeswax. Melt the mass. Add 5 g of Vaseline and 20 ml of chamomile decoction.

Mix 50 ml of warm oil (wheat germ, sea buckthorn, grape seed, almond oil are suitable) and the contents of 2-3 capsules of oil vitamins A and E (can be replaced with Aevit).

Mix equal amounts of applesauce and melted butter.

Melt 5 g of beeswax, mix it with warm oils: cocoa, shea, almond (10 ml each) - add 10 g of cocoa powder. Keep in a water bath for 10 minutes. Cool until completely hardened. Store in the refrigerator for up to six months. Can be used to soften peeling in children.

Mix 10 ml of melted beeswax and butter.

Melt a tablespoon of lard and mix with 30 ml of liquid, warm honey. Let it thicken.

If the skin not only peels off, but also cracks until it bleeds, lubricate the wound surface every 3 hours with either sea buckthorn oil or rosehip oil.

Lubricate with aloe juice 2-3 times a day.

Apply the finished green tea bag as often as possible.

Visit a dermatologist so that the treatment is carried out under his supervision. For the first 2-3 days, you can use more powerful medicinal ointments, then oils and homemade masks until painful symptoms disappear. For 2 weeks after such an intensive therapeutic course, you cannot use decorative cosmetics - only medicinal ones: balms and hygienic lipsticks.

Grandma's recipe. Whisk the egg yolk and apply it to your flaky lips. As the mask dries, reapply it again and again at least 5 times. The next day the situation will improve significantly.

Prevention

To prevent your lips from peeling, you need to properly care for their delicate and delicate skin at any time of the year.

Do not forget that it is devoid of fat and here the blood vessels are located dangerously close to the surface. So only you can provide her with protection.

Compliance with several preventive measures will not require much time and expense, but will protect you from unpleasant sensations in the future. What will you need:

  1. Visit your dentist regularly to rule out oral diseases that could cause flaking. Correct malocclusion in a timely manner.
  2. Once a week, exfoliate and massage using a soft toothbrush dipped in olive oil. After which any moisturizing mask is applied for half an hour.
  3. In the morning, wipe with an ice cube wrapped in 2 layers of gauze.
  4. Use only natural and high-quality cosmetics.
  5. Before going outside, apply balm or hygienic lipstick.
  6. Eat right and drink enough water.
  7. Do not bite or lick your lips (especially on the street).

You can’t approach peeling lips from the perspective of the Russian “maybe”: so, they say, it will pass. Only proper care and timely treatment will help you cope with this problem.

Peeling lips: causes and treatment at home

Many people experience peeling lips due to various factors. This can also occur after using chapstick. In difficult cases, cracks and bleeding ulcers appear. Peeling lips cause a lot of inconvenience to a person. But still the problem can be solved. The causes and treatment of peeling lips in adults and children are described in the article.

What leads to this?

The causes of peeling lips can be different. This usually happens due to:

  • unfavorable weather;
  • allergies to cosmetics, toothpaste, food;
  • thin and sensitive skin;
  • dry indoor air;
  • constant consumption of very hot, sour, salty, spicy foods;
  • habits of licking, biting, touching lips with hands;
  • long-term use of antidepressants or other powerful drugs;
  • smoking.

Whatever causes the problem, it causes a lot of inconvenience. The causes of peeling lips may be related to:

  • with reduced immunity, lack of vitamins A, C, E, B2, B9, B12, iron;
  • dehydration;
  • runny nose and diseases in which the temperature is elevated;
  • prolonged depression;
  • low hemoglobin, anemia;
  • problems with the gastrointestinal tract - dysbiosis, ulcers, gastritis, pancreatitis;
  • thyroid diseases;
  • fungal infections;
  • lack of sugar in the body;
  • diabetes;
  • renal failure;
  • hormonal imbalance in women during pregnancy, menopause, and after childbirth.

Another problem appears after cosmetic procedures: tattooing or implantation of fillers. There may be other reasons for peeling in the corners of the lips. This is connected:

  • with angulitis;
  • herpes;
  • mycosis;
  • cheilitis;
  • weathered;
  • Fordyce's disease.

If peeling lips is associated with the influence of various factors, such as weather conditions or cosmetics, then the problem is eliminated. First you need to get rid of the root cause. You shouldn't go outside without applying lipstick. Do not use expired products or fluoride-containing toothpaste.

When peeling lips, the skin needs to be treated with softening and wound-healing ointments and masks. But the situation becomes more complicated if the problem is a serious illness. In this case, you need to consult a doctor who will prescribe treatment. If peeling of the lips occurs for no apparent reason, then experts usually suspect the presence of early stages of diabetes mellitus or renal failure.

During pregnancy

Lips peel during pregnancy, which is associated with hormonal changes. This is a common problem. Due to such disruptions, the skin is devoid of fat and elasticity, which protect against dryness.

If this is the only reason, then this is normal. In this case, you can eliminate the peeling and reduce the pain by using home remedies. If the condition of your lips worsens, you should see a doctor to determine serious problems. It is important to avoid licking or picking at the skin, as this can cause cracking and bleeding.

Additional symptoms

When the skin of the lips peels, there are usually other unpleasant manifestations:

  • crusts;
  • cracks;
  • itching;
  • redness;
  • pain when talking, eating;
  • rashes;
  • burning;
  • severe dryness;
  • spread of inflammation.

Dryness and slight redness usually occur first. Then a thin film appears, which bursts and peels off. The process can be carried out differently for each person: for some, dry skin falls off, while for others it sticks.

If the problem is not corrected in a timely manner, bleeding cracks and crusts with ulcers may occur. There is an increase in hyperemia of the entire area near the mouth. The consequence may be infection and spread of inflammation. The pain will gradually increase.

Diagnostics

If you have problems with your lips, you need to consult a dentist, dermatologist, allergist or cosmetologist. To establish the source of the disease, you need to consider:

  • frequency of symptoms;
  • relationship with external factors - cold, wind, sun rays;
  • the occurrence of symptoms from other organs;
  • level of manifestations.

When examining and interviewing patients, the doctor can identify the cause even without examination. But then confirmation of the diagnosis is needed. For this purpose, blood tests are performed: general, biochemical, for HIV, hepatitis, syphilis, and sugar. If there is a risk of an allergy, skin tests are performed to determine the substances that cause such a reaction.

To determine concomitant ailments, instrumental techniques are used: ultrasound of internal organs and lymph nodes, radiography, endoscopy, tomography. In addition to blood tests, skin scrapings and cultures of microorganisms from the lips are needed. Only after diagnosis can a doctor identify the cause of peeling and prescribe effective treatment.

What do we have to do?

Dryness and peeling of lips must be eliminated immediately. Then the problem can be solved at home. If the situation is aggravated by cracks and infection, you need the help of a dermatologist. To make the treatment of severe peeling of the lips more effective, you need to familiarize yourself with the nuances of care that speed up recovery:

  1. You should find out the reason. If this is associated with a disease, then it is necessary to treat it.
  2. Apply moisturizing and protective cosmetics 30 minutes before going outside. This could be a balm or hygienic lipstick.
  3. A vitamin complex is useful.
  4. The daily water requirement is 2 liters. Hot drinks should be consumed through a straw. Marinades, spices and seasonings should be limited. The diet should contain foods rich in vitamins A, C, E, B2, B9, B12, and iron.
  5. You shouldn't scrub for a while. When peeling, abrasive components can injure damaged skin.
  6. During treatment, you need to be in the cold or heat for a short time. In winter, you should cover the lower part of your face with a scarf. In summer, be sure to wear a wide-brimmed hat and use lipstick with an SPF filter.
  7. It is prohibited to use fluoride-containing pastes, low-quality cosmetics, and products with salicylic acid.
  8. It is important to control that the air in the room becomes humidified.
  9. You need to eliminate the habit of biting and licking your lips. Do not remove crusts and pieces of skin: they will fall off on their own.
  10. If you have an incorrect bite, you should contact an orthodontist.

Lip care should be gentle, and then very soon their condition will be restored. Correct treatment will solve the problem. But medications should be used only as prescribed by a doctor. Traditional recipes and medicinal cosmetics help only at the initial stage, before cracks and bleeding ulcers form.

Medicines

How to get rid of peeling lips? The following drugs can be used for treatment:

  1. Homeopathy. These are solutions, tinctures, ointments for peeling lips. They are based on medicinal plants. The best drugs: “Aconitum”, “Belladonna”, “Arsenicum album”. The products have a strong moisturizing effect, restore tissue, heal cracks, eliminate inflammation, and relieve pain.
  2. Anti-burn medications. Ointments "Panthenol" and "Bepanten" can speed up recovery.
  3. Hydrocortisone ointment. It provides relief from inflammation, pain relief, elimination of itching, swelling, and softening of peeling. You should use the ointment no more than 2 times a week. It is important that it does not come into contact with the oral mucosa. The ointment cannot be used for syphilis, under 2 years of age, viruses, fungi, bacterial infections, ulcers, wounds, abrasions.
  4. Petrolatum. This is the best and proven remedy to soften the skin when it is severely peeling. Vaseline can be used frequently. The only contraindication is individual intolerance.
  5. Vitamins. These include alpha-tocopherol acetate, retinol acetate, “Aevit” in capsules. Lips are lubricated with vitamin liquids 3 times a day.

Cosmetical tools

Treatment for peeling lips can be performed using cosmetic products:

  1. Apply baby cream to the skin 2 times a day – 30 minutes before going outside and before bed.
  2. Balms are also used. The emollient Mini Green Apple Lip Balm works great for flaking lips. It is important to apply balms regularly to eliminate the problem.
  3. Hygienic lipsticks are used for peeling. Intensive protection is provided by products from the German company Nivea.

Lip massage

A light massage will help restore the skin of your lips. It is performed with a toothbrush with soft bristles. To prevent damage to delicate skin, it is treated with greasy cream, Vaseline or oil.

The lips are treated with slight movements 3-4 times a day. With the help of massage, tissues are saturated with oxygen, which improves the delivery of nutritional components. But if your lips are very dry, cracked, or peeling, massage cannot be performed. You need to wait for healing to prevent harmful bacteria from entering.

Peeling

When your lips dry out, you should definitely exfoliate. When the layer of keratinized cells thickens, the blood supply is disrupted, and the surface will crack. To promptly remove dead particles, the procedure is performed once a week.

If the dryness is severe, a gentle peeling is required, which can be purchased at a cosmetic store. It has a weaker effect, so it should be done 2 times a week. You should not be zealous; the fragile epidermis dries out greatly after frequent procedures.

Preparation

Famous makeup artists often gave advice on lip care when applying matte lipsticks; here we have collected the main ones.

Where to relax without leaving the country: Crimea has become the most popular resort

Tourists in Russia and abroad are waiting for news from cruise companies

Abnormal cold will come to the European part of Russia, Siberia and the Urals

Preparation is the key to success! Prepare your lips properly before using the product, never apply matte or liquid lipstick directly to dry and unprepared skin.

Before applying color to your lips, gently exfoliate any bits of skin. To do this you need to use a scrub. Mix coconut oil and sugar to make a simple and effective remedy. Don't ignore this advice.

Lips are peeling: what to do???

Lips can peel not only in winter. Hygienic lipsticks do not help everyone: the causes of peeling are different, from exposure to weather and bad habits to serious diseases. You can completely get rid of the problem only by finding out “where everything came from.”

Why do lips peel?

Chapped lips: this is the conclusion many people make, and treatment comes down to balms, masks (at best) and lipsticks. Indeed, this reason is common, but such peeling has its own signs.

It all starts gradually: first the lips tighten, then dryness appears, the skin cracks when stretched - it’s difficult to smile, eat and speak, and after a couple of days the lips become covered with “husks” - sometimes the skin literally “hangs in shreds”.

If you treat this carelessly, the problem can turn from a cosmetic one into a complex one: for example, dirt or infection gets into the cracks on the lips - weeks, or even months of persistent treatment are guaranteed.

How to fix the situation? Moisturizing is necessary, but you can’t go outside after it for about an hour. You need to apply a rich cream on your lips: then the wind and frost will not be scary.

Any masks are useful: with honey, wax, oils, cottage cheese, heavy cream and sour cream. It’s better to finish the procedure with olive oil, although any vegetable oil will do: cleansing, nourishing, moisturizing and protecting.

Subsequently, do not forget about hygienic lipsticks and balms - choose high-quality protective cosmetics, and make masks for prevention, 1-2 times a week.

Don't lick your lips, bite, or eat or drink outside.

The reaction to irritants is often manifested by peeling: acid (citrus juice, hot seasonings, etc.) gets on the lips. “Under stress”, jams often occur – long-lasting cracks in the corners of the mouth. Remove everything that irritates and causes allergies from your diet, check your toothpaste, and if necessary, lubricate your lips with syntomycin ointment.

Is peeling accompanied by rashes along the contour? There may be a lack of vitamins and minerals, although this can explain the problem in most cases. Here it is wiser to consult a doctor, but nutrition needs to be improved.

Add more fresh vegetables, fruits and berries, fresh eggs and butter, cottage cheese and other dairy products, sea fish and offal, whole grains and legumes, nuts and vegetable oils to your diet.

Fatty meat will bring little benefit - choose turkey, chicken and rabbit, rich in easily digestible, complete protein.

It is not difficult to “identify” peeling caused by herpes. The lips did not seem to dry out, and the skin did not tighten, and then suddenly a burning sensation began, local inflammation and small blisters appeared.

The skin may peel off, but masks and balms do not help: herpes is caused by a virus - consultation with a specialist is necessary. If the tendency to herpetic rashes is a long-standing problem, use “your” medications based on acyclovir and other antiviral substances.

But, even if you have been prescribed medications before, it is dangerous to self-medicate - it is better to see a doctor again.

The lips are dry, flaky, the contour of the mouth is inflamed - perhaps an allergy to cosmetics. Check all your products: expiration date, manufacturer; Think about what you have used more often lately. However, the cause can also be diseases - dental and even nervous, lack of vitamins and bad habits.

And here the help of an endocrinologist, allergist, or dentist is often required, but you can start with a dermatologist: treatment of cheilitis - as this disease is called - is carried out in different ways.

Folk remedies to speed up recovery include compresses with sage, St. John's wort and calendula, aloe juice with vegetable oil, etc.

Are your lips swollen and flaky? These are symptoms of a mild burn from UV rays: this happens not only in the summer. In winter, the bright sun affects the lips in the same way, and even in combination with wind and frost. Use creams with UV filters in any season if you have to stay outside or indoors in direct sunlight for a long time.

If dryness and frequent peeling are combined with pale skin - the lips “fade”, this can also be explained by various reasons: age-related changes, smoking, diseases of the lungs, heart, kidneys or liver. You need to undergo a comprehensive examination.

If the skin ages and fades, a cosmetologist will help; but bad habits must be gotten rid of, and internal diseases must be treated without fail.

Timely moisturizing and light massage with a toothbrush will also help: blood circulation will improve, and dead skin will exfoliate.

What to do if your fur coats are peeling

Homemade masks always help: both with ordinary chapping and in the complex treatment of various diseases.

Mix sour cream (1 tsp) with olive oil (1/2 tsp), add lemon juice (if there are no cracks, 3-4 drops). Apply the mixture to moistened lips and around. Leave for half an hour, wash with warm water and apply balm.

The latter can be made at home - for example, based on honey (2-3 tsp) and wax (1 tsp), with almond oil (1-2 tsp) and mint essential oil (3-4 drops ).

The wax is melted in a water bath, mixed with honey and almond oil, the mixture is cooled, essential oil is added, mixed, poured into a small jar, and stored in the refrigerator.

In general, treatment with honey is the simplest and most effective. You can do without preparing masks: just lubricate your lips with natural honey 1-2 times a day, leave for half an hour, rinse with warm water and apply a rich cream (even “Children’s”) or oil.

Oil masks are also good with wax. Melted wax (5 g) is mixed with the same amount of cocoa butter (olive, castor, etc.), 5 g of Vaseline and chamomile decoction (1 tbsp) are added. It is better to beat the mixture until smooth and completely cooled.

There is no need to wash off such masks: apply at night, on cleansed and moisturized lips, and, if necessary, during the day. Oil mixtures help quickly: cracks heal, peeling stops.

Wheat germ oil, rose hip oil, sea buckthorn oil, and grape seed oil are effective; It’s good to add pharmaceutical vitamins A and E, in capsules - the dryness will disappear for a long time. In the off-season and winter, use oil masks for prevention, without waiting until your lips begin to dry, peel and crack.

For severe peeling, a mask of honey with pork fat helps. Not everyone decides to use it, but this mixture has pronounced nourishing and restorative properties. You only need 1/2 tbsp. fat (melt in a water bath) mixed with honey (1 tbsp). Keep in the refrigerator in a glass jar.
