What is a style icon?
The concept of “Style Icon” first appeared in the 20th century and referred to a narrow circle of truly outstanding women. She could not be called just a famous person with good taste. A month ago, I couldn’t even imagine that the whole world would go into such isolation. I believe that quarantine and widespread border closures came as a surprise to most. Looking at my photos from Victoria Beckham's autumn-winter collection, I involuntarily sigh. And I sincerely hope that this will all end soon. In the meantime, I want to tell you how the fashion show went. You need to distract yourself with something during a period of not the best news about the coronavirus.
I have been a loyal customer of the Victoria Beckham brand for several years now. Having once entered Victoria's boutique in London, I stayed with her, as they say, forever. It must be said that the company store is only in the English capital, and only here you can buy these clothes and accessories. Unlike Dior or Chanel, which are represented all over the world. So in this sense, Victoria Beckham clothes are something unique that I can surprise with.
I really like the models of this brand. And as soon as a new collection comes out, I immediately open the official website and begin methodically adding almost everything to the cart. I can't say that I'm a fan of their shoes, but they have some really cool ones. And so much so that when you fall in love with a model, you simply cannot choose a certain color. The palette is so cool! Wine, deep brown, bright white, bright blue, blue, purple, earthy grey! I just want to buy everything at once.
Victoria has an incredible team. And I immediately felt this when I first came to their boutique. I was served by a very competent young man who has a great understanding of fashion. We then selected several sets, and I was amazed at how they knew how to combine everything with each other. I can't even think of such combinations. And when I order something from them online, there are no problems with the size, all the clothes fit perfectly! Since they already know all my proportions.
Before the show of the fall-winter 2020/21 collection, where I was invited, I specifically stopped by the store to find out the format of the event. The fashion show was scheduled for February 16 at the Banqueting House mansion, built in the first half of the 17th century at Whitehall Palace. In the boutique, I asked how to dress for the show, because this was the first such event in my life.
There were no clear instructions on the dress code. But I have my own important point about this. If I wear clothes from Victoria Beckham, then I have to be sure that no one else but me will come wearing this outfit. And then the consultants volunteered to help me, which again demonstrated their high professionalism. They picked out a great dress for me; in combination with a jacket and bright shoes, it created an original look that no one else could have had. I myself, of course, would never have chosen such a combination of colors and did not expect that everything together would look so great. The dress had a very beautiful crocodile leather strap, and they chose a bag for me exactly to match it. It was an unusual clutch, with a guitar strap attached to it. Victoria herself noted this original combination of classic and modern.
The atmosphere at the show was exactly the same as when watching videos of various fashion shows. Lots of cameras, photographers, celebrities. Of course, David Beckham and his children. They always go to mom’s shows, it’s very touching. Victoria Harper's daughter first attended the show when the baby was only two months old! Traditionally sitting next to the Beckham family is Anna Wintour, the editor-in-chief of American Vogue, recognized as one of the most influential figures in modern trends. She seemed to me to be a somewhat aggressive lady. Although, maybe this is exactly what you need to be in the world of high fashion. They all sat, of course, in the front row. I was also lucky, I was on the “front line”, so I was able to look at all the models.
What can we say about the new collection that women will only wear next winter? It contains images for all occasions. There are business suits, silk blouses with puffy sleeves, high-waisted flared trousers, midi dresses, translucent evening dresses made of black lace, and Victorian collars on plaid shirts, which makes a reference to the English style. At the same time, all things are devoid of theatricality, that is, they can be worn every day, and not just worn to the Oscars.
The show lasted only 10-12 minutes, but I can’t even imagine how much effort, energy and finances were invested to make everything happen at such a high level. I must say that all the efforts were justified. Photos and videos from the show instantly spread across all the world's high fashion accounts. According to Victoria's assistant, these 12 minutes of display give a huge result for the entire Beckham collection. So it was worth it.
At the end of the show, as expected, Victoria herself came out. She walked to energetic, even slightly aggressive music; the words of the song included obscene language. And it was such a challenge! "Hey! Look at me! I stand out from the crowd, and my collection is something!” – this is what her appearance looked like from the outside. In life, Victoria is exactly the same as in the photo on social networks. She has neat make-up, loves high platforms or heels and very long trousers that practically drag on the floor. It is immediately obvious that she devotes a lot of time to her image and thinks through it to the smallest detail.
After the show, we were taken to the hall, where Victoria gave an interview to Vogue magazine, and then took pictures with VIP guests. To be honest, I was embarrassed to ask her to take a photo with me. But from the outside I captured it. And at that moment Victoria noticed my look! The internationally recognized style icon said that my dress is incredible with a crazy color combination! I was flattered.
The day after the fashion show, all the guests of the show gathered at the Victoria Beckham boutique, where all the models from the new collection had already been delivered. You could touch and try them on, and look for something for yourself.
In addition, I received tremendous pleasure from communicating with amazing people who charged me with positive energy. I got to know everyone and had a great time. I don’t regret at all that I flew to London specifically just for this event. Pret-a-Porter has completely justified itself.
