Basic tips for promoting health

An apple a day

If you are scared by the fact that 50% of your food per day should be complex carbohydrates, then don’t worry: this includes vegetables, fruits, and cereals. Add to this some fast carbohydrates (like honey, if you don't have allergies), lean meat, dairy products, fish, nuts, eggs, then assemble this kit into an interesting dish - and voila, your healthy lunch is ready.

Oh sport, you are the world

There are specific regions in the world where people in large numbers step over the threshold of 100 years: Okinawa Prefecture in Japan, some areas of Greece, the peninsula in Costa Rica and others. American traveler Dan Buettner, who studied the life of locals, says that they are constantly on the move: they get to work and home on foot and by bicycle, garden, go to the pool, and organize outdoor dance parties. So there is no need to force yourself to play sports if you don’t have a passion for it at all: be yourself and enjoy active recreation to your liking.

If it seems to you that it is simply impossible to combine sports activity, relaxation in the jacuzzi and cultural events, you have simply never seen Belarusian sanatoriums , which have everything and even more. Just find out about it from our guide

Kingdom of Morpheus

Sleeping Beauty lay asleep for 100 years and did not change a bit. So the secret to longevity is sleep? Perhaps: Harvard Medical School professor Charles Zeisler and his colleagues have outlined the specific hours of sleep that people of different ages need to fully recover and be ready for productive work. From 18 to 64 years old, you need from 7 to 9 hours of sleep, and you need to go to bed before 00.00: it is during this period that the production of the hormone melatonin is stimulated, which is necessary for vigor during the day and sound sleep at night.

Eternal Zen

Have you heard the phrase “ all problems come from nerves?”

"? Technically, it is quite correct: stress triggers a number of negative reactions in the body, greatly affecting the nervous system, gastrointestinal tract, brain activity, etc. That is why it is necessary not only to try to avoid “bad moments”, but also to constantly do what you love: play chess, eat delicious food, watch movies and read books, communicate with family and friends.

Advice from VETLIVA

:
create a list of so-called useless things for yourself. This is a list of activities that are not related to work or school, but which will always make you excited. For example, you have long dreamed of skiing - do it! Did you want to spend a day or two in nature ? It's doable.

Myths about staying healthy

The secrets of beauty and health are called secrets for a reason: the existence of secrets revealed only to doctors and, probably, the Illuminati, has led to the emergence of myths that are somehow spread everywhere. It's time to dispel some of them!

  • The myth of 2 liters of water a day

Drink only when you really want to drink: no need to torture yourself and constantly pour in the specified amount of liquid. And don’t forget that in addition to drinking water, you consume liquid through juices, soups, fruits, tea, so the body itself will tell you when you need to drink.

  • The breakfast myth

Remember all the advice from people who know better than anyone else how to lose weight, improve your health and generally become a superman? Have a big breakfast! This actually helps some people lose weight: dulling the feeling of hunger in the morning helps to avoid urges to snack on unhealthy foods. However, if you're not ready to eat your breakfast before 11 am, don't be afraid to start your day with lunch: it won't hurt you to lose weight.

  • The Myth of Multivitamins

If your doctor prescribed you vitamins, take them. But you shouldn’t self-medicate and prescribe to yourself “ these are the best vitamins, they’re also advertised on TV.”

": to maintain health and beauty, proper nutrition and active rest are enough.

  • The myth about televisions and vision

If as a child you were almost pulled away from the TV by your parents, frightening you with possible blindness, it’s time to tell them how wrong they were: even if you sit near the screen so that the tip of your nose touches it, you will not spoil your eyesight. The maximum that threatens you is overwork, and only if you decide to have a nightly Harry Potter

  • The myth of 18.00

«Oh, do you want to lose weight? Don't eat after six!

“- this is what your friends, mothers, and Instagram bloggers say, but the fact is that you just need to not eat 3 hours before bedtime. You don’t go to bed at 21.00, so your last meal at six in the evening will also harm you: until bedtime you will be tormented by a feeling of hunger, which will slow down your metabolism, which will only add pounds.

Tips from centenarians on maintaining and improving health

There are quite a lot of people in our world who have passed the century mark. They can rightfully be considered experts in the field of longevity, which is why let's listen and take note of the words of these cool people:

Secrets for parents of frequently ill children

“Children of preschool and school age are most often actively infected with respiratory diseases, starting from September and until spring. This is due to long and regular stay in teams with very close contacts,” says Mikhail Zabotin. “Moreover, if some children suffer from acute respiratory infections 4-5 times a year, others fall into the category of “frequently ill children” with episodes from 10 to 12 times a year.”

“It is important to understand that an “endlessly snotty” child cannot be cured with nasal drops and immunomodulators, and summer rest, a nutritious and healthy diet, and vitamin supplementation are only factors in the prevention of respiratory infections,” says the doctor.

According to the specialist, if a child is often sick, then we should talk about the need to change the entire lifestyle, and this is not only adjusting the diet; but also hardening, and physical education, and even better, sports. Here are some tips from Mikhail Zabotin.

  • Hardening
. Hardening is considered the key to health for many years. It’s good when both parents and children in a family are interested in hardening. It is recommended to start hardening your child in the summer; the simplest thing is wiping with a damp, cool towel for five minutes. Gradually you can move on to dousing with water and a contrast shower.
  • Walking
in the fresh air should also be part of a child’s daily routine at any time of the year. At the same time, it is not recommended to overly insulate children.
  • Moisturizing the mucous membrane
. I advise my patients to buy at the pharmacy (or make it yourself) an irrigator to moisturize the nasal mucosa. Procedures should be carried out in the morning and immediately after visiting a child care facility. During periods of mass morbidity, you can instill drops with eucalyptus oil into your nose for 7-10 days. However, first you need to make sure that the child is not allergic to essential oils.
  • Herbal preparations
. In the absence of contraindications, schoolchildren over 12 years of age can be given Rhodiola extract for oral administration from the first days of the school year (or during “dangerous” periods). Typically the recommended dosage is 5-10 drops in half a glass of water 2-3 times a day for 20 days. By the way, I wouldn’t write off lollipops or pharmaceutical preparations with echinacea either, although its effectiveness has not been fully studied. By the way, in Asian countries, in particular in China, they do not like chewing gum, but lollipops with licorice (licorice), which also helps in the fight against infections.
  • Immunomodulators
. “I still have a cautious attitude towards immunomodulators,” says Mikhail Zabotin. – Most often they are expensive and absolutely ineffective. However, it is possible to use (say, in a course, starting from September 1) local immunity stimulants (bronchomunal, imudon, IRS-19). I’ll make a reservation that any immunoprophylaxis should begin with a visit to a pediatrician for consultation on the combination of various drugs. If necessary, he will also recommend the use of polyvalent and combination vaccines.”

Study the issue, collect information on how to take care of your teeth.

Important points that will tell you how to preserve your teeth until old age:

1. Early caries can be recalcified. To do this, a paste is applied to the surface of the teeth, which restores the enamel. In this case, drilling is not required. The key to performing this procedure is early detection of the spot. Regular visits to the dentist are crucial for this.

2. Fillings and crowns and other dental restorations should be renewed or thoroughly checked by a dentist every eight years. Some people believe that if nothing “has broken or fallen off,” then it’s better not to touch it. If caries under a filling or crown goes unnoticed, it can “eat” too much healthy tooth tissue or reach the nerve or root canal.

3. At least until the age of 15, it is recommended to use fluoride toothpastes. Sugar is harmful to dental health, and children love sweets. Bacteria in the mouth convert sugars into acids, which destroy the minerals that keep teeth strong. As a result, the dental coating softens and subsequently collapses. Fluoride perfectly restores tooth enamel.

Use an electric toothbrush

The electric toothbrush has become one of the biggest advancements in home dentistry. Electric toothbrushes come with a timer to help you control your brushing time. If you brush your teeth long enough, the plaque will not be completely removed. Electric brushes easily remove plaque from the cavities between the teeth and gums.

If you clench or grind your teeth while you sleep, you should use a night protector.

Grinding wears down up to a millimeter of tooth enamel per year. Constant clenching of the jaws seems harmless, but at the same time the teeth are constantly under stress, which will gradually destroy them. This leads to weakening gums, bone loss and inevitable tooth loss. The night protector will protect the teeth from gradual destruction.
