Natalya Igorevna Vetlitskaya

Biography[edit | edit code]

Childhood and youth[edit | edit code]

Born on August 17, 1964 in Moscow. Father - Igor Arsenievich Vetlitsky (June 10, 1935 - May 2, 2012) - nuclear physicist, worked for 54 years at the Institute of Theoretical and Experimental Physics [1][2][3], mother - Evgenia Ivanovna Vetlitskaya (born September 15, 1939) - piano teacher[4].

Two brothers[5], the younger brother is Igor Igorevich Vetlitsky (born June 29, 1971).

At the age of 10, Natasha Vetlitskaya began studying ballroom dancing, and then entered a music school where she studied piano, graduating in 1979. For ten years, starting in 1977, the future singer repeatedly took part in various ballroom competitions.

In 1981 she graduated from secondary school No. 856 in Moscow. In the same year, she began running a ballroom dancing school on her own.

Creativity[edit | edit code]

Natalya Smeyan (Vetlitskaya), together with her first husband Pavel Smeyan, worked in the State Variety Orchestra of the RSFSR under the direction of Maxim Dunaevsky in 1985-1986.

In 1985, the disaster film “Unscheduled Train” was released, in which a song performed by Vetlitskaya (credited as Natalya Smeyan) was performed.

For two years, starting in 1986, Vetlitskaya performed as a dancer and backing vocalist in the Idea Fix group.

Then Vetlitskaya joined the popular group “Rondo” as a choreographer, dancer and backing vocalist, recording four solo compositions as part of the group for the magnetic album “Rondo-86”, released in 1987.

At the end of 1987, Vetlitskaya took part in the recording of the song “Closing the Circle,” which was shown on New Year’s television.

In 1988 she became the lead singer of the Mirage group. As part of this group, she toured many cities of the USSR.

In 1988, Igor Matvienko, Andrey Zuev, Oleg Katsura, Oleg Kurokhtin, Alexey Gorsky and Valery Zharov united in the group “Class”, which played in the electropop style. Vetlitskaya performed as a dancer and backing vocalist for this group.

In 1990, “Class” breaks up, Natalya Vetlitskaya begins collaboration with Andrei Zuev. The first fruit of this collaboration was the song “Look into your eyes,” which, according to Afisha magazine, was included in the list of “The brightest and most memorable Russian pop hits of the last 20 years”[6].

In 1992, a video for this song was released, shot by Fyodor Bondarchuk.

Andrey Zuev's song "Magadan" performed by Natalya Vetlitskaya became the laureate of the Song of the Year.

In 1996, Vetlitskaya released the album “Slave of Love,” songs from which were constantly in rotation on many radio stations. Then a collection of hits “Best Songs” was released.

In 1997, Vetlitskaya played one of the main roles in the musical film “The Newest Adventures of Pinocchio.” She recorded two musical compositions for the film - “Sleep, Karabas” and “Taj Mahal” in a duet with Sergei Mazaev, who played the cat Basilio in the film. She also recorded the song “Rivers” as a duet with Maxim Pokrovsky (the leader of the group Nogu was cramped!).

In 2003, Maxim Papernik’s musical film “The Snow Queen” was released, where Natalya played the role of the Princess and sang the song “Lanterns” in a duet with Vadim Azarkh. In the same year, Vetlitskaya performed for the last time at the Song of the Year festival, performing the song “Flame of Passion.”

In 2006, Vetlitskaya performed for the last time at the New Wave festival.

In 2013, due to the health of her daughter Ulyana, Natalia left for Spain for permanent residence in the provincial town of Denia.

In 2020, Vetlitskaya announced her return to the stage. A contract has been concluded with the Russian music corporation PMI, which will organize her concerts. The concert program is planned to be prepared by December of the same year, and the singer’s concert tour will take place in 2020[7].

The first, after a long break, public performance in Russia took place on January 31, 2020 at a concert dedicated to the 50th anniversary of Dmitry Malikov with the song “Soul”, which the hero of the day wrote for her[8].

Personal life[edit | edit code]

Until the mid-2010s, she was married for the fourth time to Alexey, a yoga trainer. Daughter Ulyana Vetlitskaya (born August 7, 2004).

The first husband is Pavel Smeyan, the second is Evgeny Belousov, the third is fashion model Kirill Kirin (at one time he worked as an administrator for Philip Kirkorov)[9]. Vetlitskaya also met with singer Dmitry Malikov (he wrote the song “Soul” for her and sang the song “What a Strange Fate” with her), lived in a civil marriage with radio host Pavel Vashchekin, singer Vladislav Stashevsky, businessman Suleiman Kerimov, businessman and producer Mikhail Topalov (father of Vladislav Topalov) [10].

Since 1998, he has been practicing Kriya Yoga and attending Sri Sri Ravi Shankar courses in India.

Natalya writes music, composes poetry, paints and designs.

Vetlitskaya is also involved in charity work. Since 1999, she has regularly provided financial assistance to children of psychoneurological hospital No. 4, located in the village of Nikolskoye, Ruza district, Moscow region. [ source not specified 228 days

Natalya Vetlitskaya: I’m alone now, which I’m very happy about

In the 90s, she was not just a sex symbol, but a symbol of a new era. Bright, stylish, the first sign of social life. The whole country spoke about her romances and marriages with famous artists (Pavel Smeyan, Dima Malikov, Zhenya Belousov), with admiration and envy. But about 15 years ago, Vetlitskaya suddenly broke all ties with Russia, leaving for Spain, where she lived quietly, raising her daughter (they wrote that a certain yoga trainer became Ulyana’s father) and not remembering her career as a singer. Vetlitskaya recently announced her return. Large “solo concerts” will be held on October 10, 2020 at the Oktyabrsky Concert Hall in St. Petersburg and on October 29 in Moscow at the Crocus.

We met with the artist after filming Andrei Malakhov’s program in an apartment in the City. Natalya doesn’t look at all like she’s 55—slender, graceful, with a new short haircut.

— In the 90s, many perceived you as a sexy cat who sang light songs about love without overloading people, without strain...What repertoire are you returning with?

— Stress in the sense of suffering? I generally don’t like songs about suffering, and life is not easy for everyone. I actually have three new singles that I'll be releasing soon. But I don’t think there’s any point in saturating my repertoire too much - I have such a number of hits, as it turned out - more than twenty. Of course, I get bored singing the same songs, so we are making a fresh sound. There are deadlines that the investor has given us, within which we must update the material. We must return the money we took for the project with a profit.

— Your departure came at a time of serious changes in Russia. Is there a difference between watching what is happening here on TV or hearsay from abroad, and seeing everything with your own eyes?

— I haven’t watched TV for 20 years. I think, why did I spend so much money and buy these useless screens? It would be better to donate them to the homeless. I don’t watch TV either in Spain or here. As for the agenda, sometimes if something pops up on Facebook, then I’ll read it. And so, to be specifically interested... At some point I realized that my inner state is much more important to me than participation in something that I cannot influence. All that is available to me is to calm myself down and thereby reduce the level of aggression in society. So that at least I am adequate and can create a calm and positive atmosphere in my family and among my friends.

— Many of our women “prick up” their wrinkles with Botox in order to escape from old age. They say that you have to be young and not give up until the end. Do you calmly accept your age...

“It’s not a matter of what is necessary, but of fear.” All problems and destructive things come from this feeling. I simply don’t have it. It’s not that I’m that cool, and I don’t really care what they think of me. I, of course, see that there is something on my face that is no longer quite the way I would like it to be. But I don't want to bother. The situation is not critical yet. And now I don’t even have the opportunity - in order to “prick” or cut something, I need to set aside time for rehabilitation. Until the bruises go away, for example. I don't even have time to do Botox. I have never cut anything off, the only thing is that I keep an eye on this wrinkle between the eyebrows.

— Do you remember the last time you went on stage?

— In my opinion, it was the “New Wave” in 2006. 13 years ago.

— You always dressed the coolest on stage. Where did they get all this in an era of shortages? I remember that Zhanna Aguzarova gave you the blue dress for the “Look into the Eyes” video...

- Zhanna saved me then. Well, she and I were very poor and bought everything at thrift stores. And we passed on to each other all the good things we had. If you vilify it, pass it on to someone else. And they sewed for themselves. The school labor lessons were very useful to me. After we went on a school practice, where we sewed beautiful caps for teapots that retain heat, and some pennants, I learned how to stitch on a typewriter. I sewed my own prom dress using a pattern from Burda magazine.

— iTunes doesn’t have your songs. And this is the main platform where people listen to music now!

- You know, to be honest, I never got around to it. I'm generally not a very well-adapted person. All organizational issues make me so sad and despondent that I keep putting everything off until later. I'll get to this over time.

— But you finally appeared on Instagram. Now for our artists this is the main platform for promotion...

— Instagram was opened by my PR people, I simply don’t have time for it. It's cool if other artists make money from this. In general, it seems to me that money should come easily, not through hard work. It’s great that it has become easier, and people don’t tear the veins as before. Don’t think, I’m also for money, I also need to earn money to support myself and my daughter, and to help my loved ones. But I still want to do it somehow through creativity.

— There were several important stages in your life when you changed your life. Leave a relationship where you feel bad. They left the country. We came to faith. We decided to return to the stage...

— I don’t do anything myself, I don’t change anything. Fate is leading me. Everything is automatically directed by some higher power.

- But you are not a passive observer!

“When I stop listening to my heart and follow my mind, something stupid always happens. Everything always goes wrong. I find myself in situations that I wouldn't wish anyone to find themselves in. As soon as I start listening to my inner voice, to my intuition, then everything aligns. As soon as you are overwhelmed by emotions, that’s it, you are not your own master. You are a slave to your emotions, a slave to your mind. He tells you: “Look how bad he is, how bad she is.” There is a constant internal conflict going on. And when you keep this process under control, you can already live without evaluation and reaction. And then the pain and tension go away.

— Did you really break all ties with our show business at one time?

“I wasn’t particularly friendly with anyone.” We were friends with Sergei Mazaev, of course. We had one party - filmmakers, musicians, Bondarchuks - Fedya and Sveta, Philip Yankovsky, Olya Slutsker. We met with colleagues on tour, but there was no time to make friends. That's why I couldn't break ties that didn't exist.

— Your ex-lover Dima Malikov is a unique person who is now “on the wave”, interesting both to young people and to his own generation. Did he offer you a duet?

“Dima really knows that I’m coming back.” We corresponded with him yesterday. We agreed that I would perform at his anniversary concert. He wrote me the super hit “Soul”, one of the best songs in my repertoire. I will sing it. We haven’t talked about the duet yet, I just invited them to my event.

— You once spoke about your ex-husband, Zhenya Belousov, with great warmth. Do you miss him?

“We were very good friends.” Even after we had this so-called “marriage” and “divorce,” we had a great time, hung out, came up with something. He showed me his songs, we figured out how he should move to them. We talked for a long time until life separated us. We didn't have a relationship with him like a married couple. It’s just such adventurism - they say, come on! Now this would be called a PR stunt. The situation turned out to be such that he needed marriage, and I decided to support my friend. Although everyone thinks it was different. But people often invent something that is not there.

- As I understand it, you now want to live a quiet life for yourself, without romances, because men are hard, they “drink blood” and take a lot of energy...

- Well, it's a joke, of course. Energy must be spent on everything - both on children and on loved ones. My daughter has grown up and things have become easier. She is 15 years old: a little more, and she will become quite an adult. But in my personal life I really don’t have any burdens. I am a free woman, which makes me very happy. Why? I have such a specific job that it is difficult to have a serious relationship. It’s one thing when there are two artists in a relationship who can understand absences, touring, and hours in the studio. Of course, some conflicts arise between them, but not the same as between a person of another profession and an artist. There will always be misunderstandings here. And then, let's just say, I have no passionate desire to have an affair. There is no need to immerse yourself in a relationship with any specific person. Now, if we attract someone abstract, resonate, don’t destroy each other and claim space... I’ve been on tour all my life, sat in studios, in general, I’ve been left to my own devices. And in my work, it’s difficult for me to be in circumstances that limit me. Listen to “But I don’t want you to work.” Well, how is it?

—Has it ever happened that you didn’t perform because you were forbidden?

- Well... they didn’t prohibit it, but, how can I tell you, there really were circumstances to which I obeyed.

- You probably should have been tired of the huge amount of attention from men...

“I was always so immersed in my work that I did not have free time for any kind of life. And I was always selective about concerts, and did not work wherever I was offered. I asked: what kind of people, what kind of audience, what kind of place? I didn’t have such a tight financial budget - I tried to limit my schedule so that I seemed to have enough financially, and I wouldn’t get into strange situations.

— Regarding the “ches” - at the beginning of your career, when you were in Mirage, you went on tour with the group “Tender May”. What was the most difficult thing during that period?

— Number of concerts. Now the artists do not understand how it is possible to go from some Biysk to Barnaul in a cold UAZ, without seats, on shabby stools. Icy concert halls...The audience in the hall sits in fur coats and hats, and you are naked. In Magadan there was a terrible hotel where everything was completely covered with cockroaches - everything was swarming with them so much that it was impossible to sit on a chair. Bedbugs in Moldova. In Kazakhstan, in my opinion, there was unbearable heat, temperatures over 40 and no air conditioning, it was impossible to just sleep. And we wet the sheets, laid them on us until they dried out... Now you can say - “please, please, a penthouse and a Rolls-Royce.” And everything will be provided to you.

— Allegedly there was some kind of investigation into your multiple houses...

- I am, excuse my indiscretion, a pop star. And I have the right to houses and cars that I earned myself. Who cares how much money I have - let them look into their pockets and their garden. I don't care what they say. By the way, I can say that it is very burdensome to have a certain amount of real estate and transport. These are big taxes, everything needs to be maintained. But the money issue is not so scary. Everything needs to be looked after, managed somehow so that everything doesn’t fall into disrepair, and we need to make sure it doesn’t get ruined or burned. In general, it is ideal, of course, to rent a house. In the West, only very rich and old-fashioned people live in their own. Mostly everyone spends money on travel, self-development courses...

— You seem to be from an ordinary Soviet family, you even had to work as a cleaner in a carpentry shop, but many thought that you were a criminal. Who helped you?

“We really had an ordinary intelligent family: dad was a physicist, mom was a piano teacher. I saw that even ordinary working families lived more prosperously than us. I didn’t have any connections, I wasn’t anyone’s protégé. I didn't get anything magically. I started working at the age of 17, after finishing school, I began teaching ballroom dancing and, in the evenings, aerobics for women who want to keep fit. She didn’t take a penny from her parents for her maintenance. What questions do you have for me, gentlemen?

Large “solo concerts” will be held on October 10, 2020 at the Oktyabrsky Concert Hall in St. Petersburg and on October 29 at Crocus City Hall.

Concert of Natalia Vetlitskaya in Moscow: “Look into your eyes” after 15 years

Ex-member of the Mirage group and performer of numerous solo hits Natalya Vetlitskaya will give a concert at Crocus City Hall in Moscow on October 29, 2020. The program includes time-tested hits and new songs (details)

Civil position[edit | edit code]

In August 2011, Natalya published a “fairy tale” on her blog, which supposedly described a closed concert in the winter of 2008 for government members at a remote and “secret” residence. The article critically describes the organization of the concert in general and, in particular, the behavior of the artistic director of the Kremlin Palace Pyotr Shaboltai[11][12][13][14][15]. The article caused a great resonance in the press and after some time was deleted from the singer’s blog. After urgent requests from fans, the singer returned the publication to her page on the social network Facebook[16].

Natalya Vetlitskaya swore harshly in response to bullying

Natalya Vetlitskaya left an angry message addressed to journalists on her official page on the social network Facebook. Moreover, the singer did not choose her expressions. “The employees of the Russian yellow shit media are absolutely brilliant in their frenzied anger towards me. Just the purest examples of hatred, dullness, envy and stupidity. As I understand it, only the worst of the worst, the most selective losers are recruited there, because accomplished people usually disdain such “gutters.” It’s hard to even imagine where else on the planet there is a more degraded caste, which is ready to turn its own existence into hell every day for a snuff. You won’t find stupider creatures,”

-
Vetlitskaya said.
The artist categorically responded to the desire of media workers to do material with her. “Based on all of the above, to everyone interested in my interviews and wanting to get in touch with me through my friends and acquaintances, by all means, I want to say only one thing: Leave this hopeless idea. You can try to poison me as much as you want in your fucking media, in an attempt to anger or scare me in order to provoke a response, but the interview will NEVER happen,” the artist snapped. As a reason, Natalya indicated the fact that she despises such journalists.

Subscribers immediately became alarmed and bombarded Vetlitskaya with questions, which is why she suddenly flared up. Natalya explained that her previous post was to blame.

In it, the artist said that one of the central Russian channels wanted to make a program with her, but she refused. “When I needed Channel One, it didn’t need me. And now, when I don’t need him at all, he desperately needs me. There is no justice in life,” the artist wrote ironically.

Interestingly, soon after this, one of the Russian publications published a material in which they briefly described the life of Natalya Vetlitskaya from the time she left Russia. Moreover, in the text, the author recalled how the singer did not speak very loyally about the country she left behind and scolded some changes in the lives of Russians. as a result, it is possible that a lot of negative reader reviews towards Vetlitskaya herself appeared on the Internet.

Like, it’s good to talk about a God-forsaken “singer” who left the country and settled in Spain with all the comfort. Apparently, Natalya read the angry comments and could not contain her emotions.

Personal life of Natalia Vetlitskaya

Natalya Vetlitskaya’s personal life turned out to be as turbulent as her career. Fans remember the singer not only for her compositions, but also for her love affairs with famous men and marriages. Officially, Natalya Vetlitskaya was married four times and was in a civil marriage five times.

The actress’s first love and husband was musician Pavel Semyon, thanks to whom Vetlitskaya thought about a career on stage. But their life together did not last long, Pavel began to drink often and raise his hand against his wife. Dmitry Malikov, who dedicated a single song to Natalia, became her new love. Vetlitskaya lived with him for three years, but then they quietly separated. According to Malikov, the cause of their discord was Vetlitskaya’s betrayal.

On the set of "New Year's Light" Natalya meets her second husband, young performer Evgeny Belousov. They quickly got married, but divorced 9 days later. In one of the interviews, the singer said that she never loved Zhenya, but got married only because Belousov himself asked her to marry him in order to get rid of an annoying fan.

Vetlitskaya later dated producer Pavel Vashchekin, then was married to fashion model Kirill Kirin. She had an affair with the young musician Vlad Stavshevsky, olegarch Suleiman Kerimov and the producer of the Smash group, M. Topalov. But she found real happiness with her husband Alexei, a yoga trainer, with whom she is raising her daughter Ulyana.

Solo swimming

After leaving the Mirage group, the singer began working on her solo album, Look into Your Eyes. It was released in 1992. Many songs from this record became hits. In the same year, Vetlitskaya’s debut video “Look into your eyes”, directed by Fyodor Bondarchuk, was released. The song and video captivated listeners. Vetlitskaya easily won the title of “sex symbol” of the country, and her video “took” the main prize at the “Generation-92” film and video clip festival.

Between 1992 and 1999, Natalya released 5 albums, which enjoyed enormous success with the public. Her songs “Moon Cat”, “Soul”, “My Boy” and other hits were sung by the whole country. The spectacular singer with an unusual timbre of her voice was eagerly awaited on tour in all cities of the post-Soviet space.

Gradually, Vetlitskaya’s repertoire began to change. Her new songs were not similar to those that were recorded in the early 90s. In 1997, the singer recorded several joint compositions with Sergei Mazaev for the musical film “The Newest Adventures of Pinocchio.” In this film, Natalya not only sang, but also played the role of the fox Alice. And later Vetlitskaya recorded the song “Rivers” together with rock musician Maxim Pokrovsky (group “Nogu Svelo”).

In the late 90s, Natasha became seriously interested in yoga. She took courses in India and reconsidered her attitude towards life and creativity. The singer disappeared from show business for several years, and in the early 2000s she returned to the big stage. In 2003, she recorded her last album, “My Beloved...” In 2004, Vetlitskaya released several singles, shot videos for them and disappeared from the stage forever.

Currently, the 90s star lives in Spain, occasionally travels to India and has no plans to return to show business.

Natalya Vetlitskaya's husband - Alexey

But Natalya Vetlitskaya’s fourth husband, Alexey, is practically unknown to the public. We only know that for a long time he was her yoga coach, and later Natalya gave birth to his daughter and got married. This is perhaps Natalia’s longest relationship and the couple is still together. Natalya, of course, under the guidance of her husband, also went into various eastern teachings, and also delved into the knowledge of yoga. Despite the fact that the woman had many affairs with famous, rich men, only an ordinary yoga teacher managed to make her truly happy.
