If the color of eye shadow is chosen incorrectly, then even perfectly applied makeup will not look harmonious. Eyes framed in inappropriate shades can, for example, become lost or look tired. Therefore, choosing a color palette for eye makeup is an important task, which is not difficult to solve if you know certain rules.

The idea that shadows must exactly match the color of the iris is not entirely true. For example, gray eyes will look extremely expressionless if you use a shade of gray that exactly matches the color of the iris. Makeup that uses colors that make the eye brighter and more expressive looks much more interesting. So, warm brown shades perfectly highlight blue eyes.
When choosing the color of eye shadow and then applying it, professionals often use a chromatic circle, which contains all the shades of the spectrum. Eye color is best emphasized by the shade that is opposite to it in the spectrum, that is, located on the diametrically opposite side of the circle. For example, when looking at the chromatic circle, it becomes clear that gray-green eyes will perfectly highlight purple shadows.
Choosing shadows depending on eye color
Different shades of shadows can transform your appearance beyond recognition. So, cold tones make the look deeper, and framed by warm shades, the eyes look more expressive. Dark shadows visually reduce and distance, while light shadows visually enlarge and bring closer.
Gray shadows are considered universal. The palette of shades of gray is very diverse, you can choose the right option for any type of appearance.
When choosing shadows depending on eye color, it is important to remember that you also need to take into account skin tone, hair and clothing color.
Shadows for brown eyes
Brown shadows, beige, light yellow, ivory, black, dark green, emerald, olive, brick and purple are very good. To create bright makeup for special occasions, gold, bronze and copper tones are suitable.
The beautiful nutty hue of the iris is well emphasized by medium brown shades and blue-gray shadows.
Shadows for green eyes
Owners of green eyes should choose light yellow, beige, yellow-brown shadows, shadows of different shades of green, ivory, coral, orange, copper, brick, lilac and purple. For bright holiday makeup, shades of golden and copper tones are good. An interesting combination for green eyes is soft lilac shadows and green eyeliner to match the color of the iris.
Eyeshadow for blue eyes
Blue-eyed beauties will look great with shades of all shades of gray, black, dark blue, ivory, gray-blue, pink, lilac and purple, as well as shades of warm shades of brown. Among pearlescent shadows, steel, silver-blue and almost white tones will be good.
Shadows for gray eyes
Almost all shades are good for gray eyes, except those that repeat the color of the iris, as well as hot pink. If the gray color of the iris has splashes of green and blue, then it is good to use these shades in makeup.
Collection of shadows for a cool type of appearance
With all the variety of shadows, if you have a cold type of appearance, finding the very palette that you will use is not very easy. That's why I'm glad that I have 11 palettes in my collection whose colors exactly suit me. Let's take a look at them
1 – Urban Decay Naked Eyeshadow Palette
The palette that I got for free) In one of the online stores in England you had to place an order for a certain amount and it became a gift. Previously, this was a cult palette, now its shadows seem a bit dry and harsh to me, but they still give off pigment well and stay on the eyelids. No, no, and a hand reaches out to them)
the shades are most truthfully conveyed here
All swatches were done with a brush on a Too Faced base.
2 – Zoeva en taupe Eyeshadow Palette
Just one photo was enough to make you want this palette in your collection. I didn’t read anything about it, didn’t look at swatches, I just bought it because I saw that the colors were “mine”. This palette is not for the evening, it makes great daytime makeup looks. You can’t do anything ugly with it, you can’t overdo it... with it I feel like an artist who can draw whatever he wants in a couple of strokes. I use it all the time!
3 – Viseart Chroma Theory Palette
I saw the palette on sale and finally decided to get acquainted with these legendary shadows. Yes, the quality is excellent: pigmentation, application, stretching, shading... everything is perfect. And then I look in the mirror and I don’t like the result. Every time I try to understand what's wrong, but I don't know. And every time after using Viseart I am left with some kind of aftertaste. In order not to spoil her mood, she just lies there)
4 – Artdeco
For more than 10 years I have been using Artdeco eyeshadow shade 05. I apply it all over the eyelid, draw an arrow and the makeup is ready. And I had an obsessive idea to put together a palette of shadows in a case. I caught a promotion at a well-known chain store, ordered the colors I wanted, the palette is there, but I still use shade 05)) By the time I put together this palette, the quality of the advanced eyeshadows became mediocre, but I love the 05 shade because of the shade. I thought I found a similar shade in Viseart, but I missed it
5 – Urban Decay Eyeshadow Palette Naked Basics 2
For a long time I only wore matte shadows, I was very tired of the cheap Ruby Rose satin and couldn’t stand even the delicate shine of the shadows. But time passes, everything changes, and now I apply makeup much more confidently. Now there is a place for accents, active lower eyelids, satins, and shimmers. I think this is the reason why I just have these shadows lying around, although I have no complaints about them as such
6 – Smashbox Cover shot: Prism Eye Palette
A very interesting palette that I use from time to time, but you can’t tell by the colors) Yes, not everyone matches the color type, but they are quite dark, 2 toppers refresh any makeup, and I got this palette at good discounts. Not all shades are the same in quality, some are good, some are average.
7 – Smashbox Cover shot: Minimalist Eye Palette
Cool brown tones, what else do you need for every day! The left sector is beautiful. The shades on the right can be used to create some accents and sometimes refresh your makeup. The travel palette is always with me. The quality of the shadows is not wow, but quite good)
8 – Smashbox Cover shot: Punked Eye Palette
I saw the color scheme of the palette and didn’t leave the store without it) The shades are perfect, the makeup looks with it are amazing, the quality of the shadows is on point, I have nothing to complain about. Perhaps to the size of the refills, because... I'm afraid they'll run out quickly. All shadows weigh only 6.2 grams. And yet the palette is definitely not appreciated)
9 – Smashbox Cover shot: Nova Eye Palette
I bought this palette only because of a good discount on Black Friday; instead of the usual 2100 rubles, I paid about 750 rubles. I don’t use it often, but the makeup looks interesting if you use mostly cool shades and add warm accents. The quality of the shadows is similar to the Minimalist palette and not up to par with Punked and Prism.
10 – Anastasia Beverly Hills Sultry Eye Shadow Palette
When I wanted to try shadows from Anastasia, without any options, I ordered delivery for the Sultry palette. Among all, the coolest palette with gorgeous shadows. They make you feel delighted every time. How they pick up, how they give off color, how they shade - everything about them is beautiful. I don’t use all the shades, some are frankly warm, but this doesn’t stop me from taking out the palette and doing a new version of makeup)
11 - Lime Crime Venus Immortalis
Where would we be without this Venus) I didn’t wait for any discounts and ordered it as soon as it became possible. And for good reason! I can wear this palette for a week, doing different makeup looks. The shadows are of excellent quality, can't complain. shades of something with something. They work with each other 100%. Just write it down: I am absolutely delighted with these shadows!
Makeup with Smashbox Cover shot: Prism Eye Palette
Shade 2 was applied to the entire moving eyelid and went to the borders of the fixed eyelid, blending the shade. On top of shade 2 I applied shade 1, on the fixed eyelid I came out just above shade 2 and blended it into the skin. Shade 4 was applied to the entire lower eyelid. With shade 3 I placed a spot on the inner corner of the lower eyelid.
