A pulmonologist explained why you shouldn’t inflate balloons after suffering from COVID-19

Cystitis, which appears after sex, is like a tragedy in the midst of a holiday: everything seems to be fine, everything is fine, personal life brings joy and pleasure, and then there is inflammation of the bladder. Few understand why and how this happens, and more and more people consider the disease to be a sexually transmitted infection. However, this is not quite true. In fact, only a pathogen is transmitted, which in a matter of hours provokes the development of the inflammatory process. Also, the pathogen may already be in a dormant state in the organ, and a stormy personal life only provokes its development. This disease cannot be cured with antibiotics, since to eliminate the problem it is necessary to eliminate the cause of its occurrence.

The reason for the development of inflammation after sexual intercourse

Cystitis after sex
“Why does cystitis develop after sex?” you ask. Everything is very simple. Pathology develops as a result of pathogenic microflora entering human organs. She can get there in several ways:

  • descending route (from the kidneys, digestive tract),
  • ascending route (urethra).

If we consider the occurrence of an unpleasant situation after the performance of marital duties, then naturally, the pathogen made its way into the bladder through the urethra. Often this can happen due to the individual characteristics of a person and the abnormal location of the urethra: the urinary canal is located lower than usual and is not covered by the vaginal wall during sexual intercourse. Thus, pathogenic microorganisms freely enter the female body and develop there until measures are taken to destroy them.

If cystitis begins the day after sex, this means that there is a reason to consult a specialist to find out the source of the disease and determine how to treat it. As a rule, in addition to the abnormal location of the urinary canal, or simultaneously with this feature, inflammation can be caused by insufficiently thorough washing of the hands or genitals by a woman or man, as a result of which harmful microorganisms develop and, during approach, make their way into the bladder through the urinary canal. The combination of different types of sexual intercourse can also provoke the development of pathology.

Often, the bladder becomes inflamed due to an infection that develops due to a sexually transmitted disease, injury during rough sexual intercourse, trauma or damage to the mucous membrane of the organ. So, when asked why cystitis appears after sex, we can safely answer that it could also be caused by loss of virginity, unusual sexual intercourse, rude behavior, or sexually transmitted diseases of one of the partners.

Considering the causes of cystitis after sex in women, we can conclude that the following factors can provoke the disease:

  • rough form of sex,
  • frequent change of man,
  • uncleanliness,
  • violation of secretion from the vagina,
  • sexually transmitted diseases of a partner.

Pathological changes in the bladder can occur after sexual contact and in men when pathogenic microflora penetrates inside. Those who have unprotected sex, those with poor immunity and members of the stronger sex who have previously had problems with the health of the urinary system are most at risk of getting sick.

A pulmonologist explained why you shouldn’t inflate balloons after suffering from COVID-19

On the Internet you can come across various tips for restoring your lungs after pneumonia caused by COVID-19. The head of the pulmonology department No. 1 of the City Multidisciplinary Hospital No. 2, Irina Kroshkina, told “Doctor Peter” which recommendations should be heeded and which ones will do more harm than good.

In particular, the doctor noted that it is better not to inflate balloons for recovered patients.

“I don’t recommend inflating balloons, as this activity requires a lot of effort. If the lung tissue has not returned to normal, then instead of recovery, you can actually get pneumothorax (accumulation of air in the pleural cavity, leading to disruption of the ventilation function of the lungs and gas exchange during breathing - ed.).

But breathing through a straw will do nothing but benefit. The main principle of action is to create resistance as you exhale. Choose a straw - not very narrow and with smooth walls (not corrugated), pour water into a large glass halfway (so as not to spill), lower the straw into the water, take a slow breath, counting to four, and then exhale through the straw - the exhalation should be 1.5 times longer than inhalation. We need to count to six,” the doctor said.

Also, according to Kroshkina, walking is very useful.

“You don’t need to run or speed up - walk in a way that makes you feel comfortable. Start with short distances and increase the route and intensity as you regain strength. We can also recommend dosed walking with poles, which involves all muscle groups: shoulder girdle, chest, arms and legs.”

The doctor added what other advice could be harmful.

“You shouldn’t do oil inhalations. Not only after Covid pneumonia, but in principle never. Some people add essential oils directly to the nebulizer, after which the device can be thrown away. Others drop oil into hot water and breathe it in, covered with a towel. Patients believe that when inhaling essential oil, the bronchi are “disinfected”, swelling of the mucous membrane and inflammation are reduced. In fact, oil solutions evaporate poorly, and the evaporated oil does not penetrate deep into the respiratory tract; it mainly settles in the initial sections. But if the essential oil does get into the respiratory tract, it itself can provoke a disease - alveolitis. The medical literature describes “oil pneumonia,” which, by the way, is severe. Nothing other than air should enter the respiratory tract. Long-term constant inhalation of foreign agents causes disease - this is how coal dust causes occupational silicosis in miners,” the pulmonologist concluded.

Earlier, pulmonologists told how long a person who has had COVID-19 remains infectious to others.

Symptoms

Symptoms of cystitis after sex
Having figured out why cystitis begins after sex, you should familiarize yourself with the symptoms that appear during its development. A significant difference between the inflammatory process, which develops as a result of an active intimate life, and the acute form of the disease is the speed of their manifestation. Thus, the symptoms are not acute, but unlike the acute form, they usually appear the very next day after sexual intercourse.

The main manifestations of the development of the inflammatory process are frequent desires to urinate, which, as a rule, do not produce results. They are accompanied by pain and discomfort, especially at the beginning and end of the emptying process. In addition, if the organ is damaged after intimate contact between partners, the woman may feel unpleasant sensations such as burning, discomfort, and itching. After oral sex, cystitis manifests itself with acute symptoms and makes itself felt much earlier.

After intimate rapprochement between partners, or during it, a woman may feel discomfort and pain in the abdominal area. In most cases, this indicates the development of an inflammatory process in the organs of the genitourinary system. In some cases, these are gynecological diseases, more often – inflammation of the bladder.

It should be noted that the manifestations of the symptoms of the disease may disappear after the acute attack has stopped. However, after the next intimate relationship, signs of the inflammatory process appear with renewed vigor, causing even more inconvenience.

Emotional pain after a guy cheated. Will this end?

Anna, good afternoon,

Thank you for your request.

You write that after you left your boyfriend, he entered into an intimate relationship with another girl and you saw a photo of this girl in her underwear in his room. At the same time, the guy himself explains this act as revenge on you, after you left him, because, according to you, you were tired of suffering humiliation from him.

But despite the fact that you were no longer in a relationship with the guy, his act left a very deep mark on your soul, so deep that the very mention of intimacy causes you anxiety and stress. You also react strongly to other beautiful girls because... potentially perceive them as rivals and do not trust other guys, because... are convinced that they could potentially betray you.

First of all, it is important to accept the fact that your boyfriend’s action is, in fact, manipulation, revenge on his part. He deliberately wanted to hurt you and, unfortunately, he succeeded.

At the same time, it is important to understand why, despite the fact that you were no longer in a relationship with this guy, you reacted so sharply to his action? Most likely, this is due to the fact that psychologically you have not completed the relationship. And, perhaps, you are still emotionally in this relationship and over and over again experience his action as betrayal. Although in essence it was manipulation and revenge.

How to get out of an already ended relationship?

First of all, recognize the fact that the end of the relationship has not yet been fully experienced by you. The very acceptance and awareness of this fact will gradually reduce the emotional significance of the relationship.

Secondly, try to imagine what your relationship with this person would be like if you had not broken up with him? Try to describe for yourself in detail what would happen to you, what you would become in this relationship, what feelings you would experience, what this relationship would be like? Would such a relationship suit you? Would you like to keep them?

Thirdly, try to express your emotions about the completed relationship - in any way convenient and comfortable for you: this could be drawing, writing, handicrafts, music. It is important to give vent to your emotions, gradually live through this experience of parting, let go of the relationship, opening yourself up to a new stage of life. But don’t get “stuck” in emotional experiences. Give yourself, for example, 15-20 minutes a day to work through and “let go” of relationships.

And it is important to remember that our life does not come down only to relationships, it is much richer and broader than this, it is fraught with many opportunities that tend to slip away while we look at our life through the prism of resentment and unlived experience, fixating on it.

Of course, your situation can and should be dealt with. It is important to work through the attitudes that you have as a result of this situation, namely: any man can cheat on me and any beautiful girl can potentially become a rival. These are very strong attitudes, which, in fact, now provoke the manifestation of those alarming reactions that you write about. It is important to evaluate each of these attitudes, understand how reliable they are, what contradicts them, and in their place gradually formulate more adaptive beliefs that will help you cope with the current situation and return to a life that is comfortable for you. But this requires time and determination on your part.

Take care of yourself.

I will be happy to answer questions and continue work if necessary.

Sincerely,

Alyona

Diagnostics

Diagnosis of cystitis
Diagnosis of pathology, as a rule, is carried out using a standard method: a specialist prescribes laboratory tests of urine and blood tests, which determine the presence of infection and the bacterium that became its causative agent. Having identified the pathogen, the doctor will determine how the lesion occurred. So, having found out that the infection entered the body through an ascending route, the specialist must examine the patient on a gynecological chair to make sure that the cause of the development of cystitis after sex was the abnormal location of the urethra, or conduct additional examinations if the organ of the urinary system is located correctly. To determine a sexually transmitted infection in a woman’s body, the doctor conducts appropriate laboratory tests and other examinations and examinations.

Treatment

Regardless of what contributed to the development of the disease, it is important to begin treatment on time. So, first of all, when an infectious agent is detected in a woman’s body, the specialist prescribes her a standard course of treatment, which consists of a complex of medications, herbal remedies, diet therapy and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Drug therapy involves taking broad-spectrum antibiotics that effectively destroy harmful bacteria and prevent their re-development. The goal of herbal medicine is to relieve the inflammatory process, as well as remove pathogens from the organ. For this purpose, special natural-based products are prescribed, as well as teas with a diuretic effect, decoctions and tinctures.

An important point in treatment is diet. Thus, the basis of diet therapy is the avoidance of spicy, fatty and salty foods, which can irritate the mucous membrane of the bladder. It is also necessary to increase the amount of fluid consumed. Painkillers will help relieve discomfort.

If cystitis worsens after sex, despite completing the course of treatment and following all medical prescriptions and recommendations, this indicates that the main source affecting the problem has not been eliminated. In this case, the specialist examines the woman on a gynecological chair, and, most likely, detects an incorrect location of the urethra. How to treat cystitis after sex in this case - only the doctor will tell you. At first glance, the doctor’s conclusion will sound like a sentence: “Surgery is necessary.” However, in reality, not everything is as scary as it would seem. Transposition of the urethra - this is the name of the operation, is carried out quite quickly. Having eliminated the signs of cystitis that appeared after sex, the specialist prescribes surgery, which is performed under general anesthesia. Accordingly, the patient does not feel anything, and wakes up with the normal location of the urethra.

Having carried out the necessary treatment and surgical intervention, the doctor discharges the patient after two days, if he has no complications, and tells him when he can have sex after treating cystitis, as well as when he will need to undergo a re-examination.
