The Italian School of Fashion and Style devoted the entire past week to holding a marathon to develop taste and style in our social networks. Today we want to summarize and tell you about 3 secrets on how you can independently develop your taste and style.

So, how to develop your taste: 3 lessons from Milan

To develop your own sense of style, it is important to ensure that the selected items of clothing look really advantageous on you and at the same time clearly express your individuality. It's half art and half science. Let's start with the second hypostasis.

The first thing you need to know is that it will take time to develop your taste, as well as the familiar “trial and error method”. Do everything gradually, step by step.

Don't think you'll taste great after just a few weeks. As with anything new to you, the important thing here is to try. Also, developing taste and finding a style should not be something tedious, it should bring you pleasure and a feeling that you are moving in the right direction.

A new style

Largely thanks to movie heroines, a new style that emphasized the figure came into fashion. It had smooth, flowing sculptural lines, draperies, and flares. Preference was given to thin, flowing, flowing fabrics.

But if the figure is not the most ideal, you should not categorically turn away from Slinky-Look. You can try to take into account some nuances:

• if you don’t have a thin waist, you can add additional darts to the dress, which will create the appearance of curves in your figure; • if the bust is too large, then you should not wear a V-neck; • if you have a small tummy, you need to choose a dress made of thicker fabric, with a slimming effect; • if your legs are not quite perfect, then you can buy floor-length dresses.

Feel your food. How to develop taste buds

Developed taste buds are a gain. You can learn to distinguish subtle shades of taste almost on a par with tasters. Today we will tell you how.

Many of us would be happy to work as a restaurant critic: trying delicious dishes in the best establishments in the city, not paying attention to their price, describing our impressions of what we ate and getting paid for it. However, not every food lover knows how to recognize what ingredients a dish is made from, evaluate the level of sweetness, acidity, salt, spice, and during the cooking process, as professional chefs say, bring the dish “to taste” - that is, make it perfect, relying on own taste buds and adding the necessary flavoring touches. To become a real gourmet and learn not only to swallow food, but also to enjoy it, we suggest using the following tips.

1. Drink a glass of water after waking up.

The body, slightly dehydrated after sleep, begins to awaken thanks to water: not only the stomach, but also the oral cavity prepares for breakfast. Water generally neutralizes any taste lingering in the mouth and renews perception. Therefore, at any time of the day, before tasting a new dish, we recommend drinking water rather than coffee, juice or other drinks with pronounced flavors.

2. Clean your tongue.

Advertisements for tongue cleaning brushes do not lie: on the surface of the tongue there are indeed many taste buds, which help us to subtly sense taste. By cleansing your tongue in the morning, you give them access to new taste sensations, preventing them from becoming clogged and working half-heartedly. Mankind has been using tongue scrapers for many centuries. Today they are made from different materials, and you can buy them at pharmacies or Ayurvedic stores.

3. Stop smoking and alcohol.

During the smoking process, combustion products settle in the mouth and block the perception of taste. Moreover, people smoke more often than they brush their teeth and tongue. Drinking strong alcohol, in turn, affects the brain: it dulls signals coming from nerve endings. Just think, if a drunk person weakly perceives cold, pain and other strong physical influences, then subtle signals from his taste buds are unlikely to reach the brain.

4. Breathe freely

. The perception of taste is closely related to the perception of smell. Just try holding your nose and putting a familiar product in your mouth - you will feel almost nothing except the consistency and temperature. But as soon as you free your nose, the taste, along with the smell, will rush into your consciousness. Therefore, for a detailed perception of taste, it is necessary to ensure that the nose is not stuffy and breathes as freely as possible.

5. Skip the salt

or at least reduce its consumption. Due to salt, many shades of taste remain beyond our perception (as well as due to excessive spiciness). If you over-salt a dish, you will hardly notice anything other than saltiness after tasting it. But imagine a dish without any salt at all: you will say “not tasty,” but some people live like this and enjoy the natural taste of food, unadorned, unenhanced, uninterrupted. Experiencing food without salt is like taking off your rose-colored glasses. Try living without salt for a week. Although this will be a difficult test for you, you will be happy with the result. Your taste buds will become more sensitive and you will add much less salt during cooking than before. The less salt, the better for the body.

6. Evaluate the product as it is

. Let's say you bought balsamic cream for the first time. Take a drop on your tongue and get to know the taste. Of course, it will seem too bright and concentrated, because balsamic cream is not intended to be consumed just like that, without anything. Make allowances for the fact that in a salad or when serving a steak, the cream will appear much softer, but you will already be able to distinguish this special shade among a kaleidoscope of other shades.

7. Chew long and thoroughly

. You know, for example, that smell has three levels? And after 15 minutes, the aroma of perfume on your body is no longer the same as it was immediately after spraying. The same can be seen in the area of taste. If you chew a little longer than usual, for example, a chicken breast baked with cheese, you can feel that the taste of this dish gradually seems to take off its clothes and become naked. He becomes different, but we don’t even know about it, because we’re in too much of a hurry.

8. Direct your attention

. Attention is like a ray of light in the dark, making visible only what it is directed at. While eating, we can read the newspaper, watch TV, communicate with loved ones and not even notice how we emptied the plate, much less remember what the dish tasted like. But we spent our time on it (if we cooked it at home) or paid money for it in a cafe. We had the right to enjoy its taste! Therefore, when you want to try a dish, concentrate your attention in your mouth, on the tip of your tongue, and turn off all other channels of perception (except for the olfactory, of course): abstract from the surrounding sounds and close your eyes.

Become more sensitive to taste so that you can get the most out of food, as with all of life.

Sense of style

Even the great Coco Chanel said that fashion passes, but style remains!

Fashion is not about feathers and rhinestones, fashion is when a skirt fits well and trousers visually lengthen your legs.

Only, from an early age, someone knows how to beautifully combine clothes and accessories, while others have to use the services of stylists or read a lot and watch glossy magazines and fashion shows, train their eyesight and copy the images of famous actors and singers.

People with good taste are noticed by everyone, even those with bad taste. You want to imitate such people and be in the circle of their close friends in order to become “infected” with a sense of style, an understanding of beauty and the ability to create it in everyday life.

Sense of style

And to understand whether people have such feelings towards you, we have prepared a list of 9 signs that indicate that you have an innate, unsurpassed taste. For some it is a thorny path of trial and error, but for others it is something that is given from birth! You know how to read current touches, but at the same time you are selective about what really suits you.

You get compliments all the time, especially from women.
If you regularly hear sincere compliments and praise from different people, don’t doubt that you have excellent taste. A sense of proportion in everything is one of the main criteria that you follow when choosing a fashionable outfit for an evening or a business meeting at work. Perhaps you have never read Johannes Itten's books or Leatrice Iceman's reference book on the rules of color combinations. However, you know how to intuitively harmoniously select colored accessories to complement your look. For you, the concept of “color harmony” is not an abstraction, but a norm of life. How often are you asked to reveal your favorite tailor, stylist, hairdresser or manicurist? If often, then you can safely consider this also a compliment to your excellent taste. People want to look as elegant, fashionable and stylish as you. Could anything else be as eloquent a sign of a good sense of taste? Beautiful or comfortable? Both at once! Wearing comfortable things in style is exactly what is difficult to learn. You have your own vision of the image, and you tactfully know how to defend it. No tricks of sales consultants will confuse you! You know how to combine textures, fabrics and prints. People with an innate sense of style do not need to explain that linen is good only with cotton, and silk can be the basis for everything. You just feel that way, and your intuition has never let you down! You can be proud of your taste if every now and then your loved ones, girlfriends or colleagues ask you to act as their stylist and storm stores with them so that you can help them choose really fashionable clothes. Rest assured, a person with bad taste will not be asked to do this! This means that you are already an example of style and an object to be followed. Editorial advice: Elegance is above current fashion trends. Its basis is a sense of taste and style, moderation, sophistication and commitment to quality. I suggest you familiarize yourself with the 7 golden rules of elegance. Find out how to become truly attractive! Get to know yourself. Study your figure, type, proportions. Buy things not for the sake of things, but for the sake of yourself and emphasizing external advantages. Do you feel that a complex cut is not your story? Is deep burgundy color scary and annoying? Then tell them a categorical no. Transparent, too tight, short are also not approved by the rules of good taste.
