Today Irina continues to play on the stage of the Stanislavsky Theater, in addition, she acts as a guest actress. As Grineva admitted in an interview, theater means more to her than cinema, as it requires daily work on herself and full exposure on stage. She carefully chooses her roles, preferring to play in serious plays.

Irina Grineva

– Irina, do you have any thoughts that another time would be more suitable for you as a film actress – the 20-30s of the twentieth century?

– I have a film, “Flip-Up” by Evgeny Serov, about the 20s, and it really was a 100% hit.
I like that time, it resonates with me, it is very beautiful. And at the same time tragic - the war, the fateful years. People lived so hard. At the same time, what the women looked like! I have a grandmother in photographs from the war in stockings with arrows, an astrakhan hat, in full dress. I asked: “Granny, how was this possible?” In the most difficult times, women exchanged potatoes for nylon stockings and bought dresses in the markets. There was dancing. They put felt boots on the shoes, walked through the snow, then took off the felt boots at dances. At that time, women were women, and men were like real men who could protect us. – Now we don’t make many films about the first half of the twentieth century...
– These are expensive films.
And now we mostly have TV series, and few feature films are filmed. As one of my favorite actors said: directors should be sent to Solovki for TV series, let them sit there! (Laughs.) Somewhere, perhaps, I agree with him. In general, I like acting in the theater more than acting in films, although I love cinema more than theater. - What a paradox!
- Yes.
But the kind of cinema that I love is very rare these days. I haven't acted like this before. I like boring movies. I love Antonioni, Bergman, Bertolucci, Buñuel, Truffaut. From the modern, perhaps, Andrei Zvyagintsev’s film “Exile” corresponds to this style. (Zvyagintsev is Irina’s ex-husband. - Ed.) Cinema is more of a director’s territory, where the director creates his own world into which you find yourself. Sometimes you think that you played terribly, and a talented director filmed you in such a way that you look at the screen and don’t recognize yourself. Or vice versa. I know that I did the scene well, but at this time the face was illuminated incorrectly, the eyes are not visible, and everything is wrong. And theater is a direct contact with the audience. Even if you play for a not very gifted director, when you go on stage, you can do something, fill it with yourself. – Now many actresses have gone into film directing.
This year Tatyana Dogileva and Irina Apeksimova made their debut in this field. Don't you want to try yourself on the other side of the camera? – I understand that I am not a director.
To say something, I must give birth to an idea and die for this idea. I don't find such strength in myself. I have a sacred attitude towards this profession and believe that the director is responsible for what he does. The surgeon is responsible if he performed the operation poorly. It's the same here. Cinema is an operation on souls. We can vulgarize consciousness or elevate it. We can express a thought that will make a person move mountains, or, conversely, crush him like a tombstone. And the worst thing is when it’s completely empty, when there’s nothing. But in today's situation, when films are made by people without any education at all - yesterday they sold cassettes, today they make films, I am for actors to make films. They will still make better films than current directors. There was such a real case when in St. Petersburg Oleg Basilashvili came to a screen test for a boy director, and he doesn’t even know who he is, and says to him: “Could you read it, I want to see your temperament.” But, of course, not everything is so scary. A lot of good things are happening. – For example, you starred in a very good film – “I Stay” directed by debutant Karen Oganesyan.
There, your heroine is in a coma and at the same time exists in the other world called “Coma”. How do you like this version of what happens to a person after death? – I don’t quite agree with the concept of this film.
But I agree with something. Probably, when a person is in a coma, he is between that world and this one. But I believe that we are met there by angels, and not by a guide with a Rubik’s cube. – In the image of Fyodor Bondarchuk...
– Yes, in a prisoner’s robe.
It seems to me that our saints and angels will meet us there. This is the best case scenario, of course. (Laughs.) But I hope for the best. Otherwise the idea is very interesting. Andrei (the late Andrei Krasko played his last role in the film “I Stay.” – Author) Alena Bondarchuk and I kept asking: “Aren’t you girls afraid to play something like this?” We: “No, we’re not afraid.” But something scared him. Probably, a person before death is in some kind of premonition. When my brother died, it became clear that he had lived the last year in anticipation of death. He came to visit all his relatives, sat and hugged them. He said goodbye to everyone. We don’t realize this with our minds, but our soul probably feels it. How Mozart was afraid of the Black man. – Since we’re talking about Mozart, what performances can you see in the theater now?
– Recently the premiere of the play “Ornithology” took place, where I have the main role.
This is at the Quartet I theater. This is an amazing play, stylish, written in very good language. – – And at the Stanislavsky Theater?
– I have a role in the play “Evgraf - Adventurer.”
Almost all the actors in the troupe are involved in the production by Tatiana Akhramkova, the theater’s artistic director. This play has not been performed on stage for more than seventy years, but I think it is relevant now. I play tightrope walker Betty Schneider, who came from Berlin to Russia in the 30s. My partner in the play, Evgeny Samarin, a young leading artist of our theater, plays the main character. His Evgraf is in love with my circus performer, she is not averse to having fun with the romantic klutz who succumbs to the charms of my seductress heroine. He seeks salvation in love from the constant feeling of his own uselessness and worthlessness. Basically, I play a seductress. – Who do you think is more difficult in love – a man or a woman?
Who is more vulnerable? - The one who loves.
– I read in many of your interviews that you believe that a woman should not conquer a man, it is the man who should seek the love of a woman.
But in our time, everything has changed so much... - In general, a woman gets MARRIED.
That is, for my husband. And not husband for wife. It's not you who makes the offer, but you. You are chosen. And this person should take care of you all your life. And you must trust him. You will give birth to children from him, and he will take care of them, about the house. What kind of life will you have if the person you fell in love with doesn’t love you?! You are trying to achieve it in every possible way. And even if you achieve it, nothing good will come of it. This is some kind of nonsense. No one has ever become happy by marrying someone. We have now leveled the image of a man, so we have what we have – low birth rates, few marriages. Our men now are not men, but solid homosexuals. If war starts now, I don’t even know who will go to defend the Motherland. It's even scary. – Is everything really so gloomy?
– Of course, there are many good men. And some of my friends are surrounded by them. I’m not saying that there are no real men, or there are no heroes, or there is no love. As long as there is love, there is Earth. When she is gone, the world will end. And these days there are amazing novels. Anatoly Aleksandrovich Vasiliev once told a story that he read about in the newspaper. This is a true modern story, similar to a myth. It happened in Japan. A guy has cancer and his girlfriend wants to marry him. And according to their customs (I really don’t know them at all, so if I get it wrong, I’m sorry) you can’t marry anyone a second time. This is for life. He knows that he will die, and does not give her consent, he wants her to be happy, to arrange her destiny. But before death they still get married. And he dies. And she says: “I am very happy that in this life I was his wife.” These are modern people in the 21st century. And there are and will be such stories.

Their first conversation began during a holiday, where they found themselves next to each other at the table.

Literally from the first exchange of phrases, Irina and Maxim found each other’s company pleasant. This is how their romance began, the relationship developed rapidly, and already in 2010 the couple got married in the Church of the Dormition of the Mother of God. Grineva was wearing a beautiful wedding dress in the style of the 19th century.

Besides the opportunity that you can be alone with yourself, with your family, take care of the housework and think about life...

The development of spiritual growth is possible in a situation of seclusion, when you are an ascetic monk and when you yourself have chosen to freely leave the world, but when you are in prison against your will, is it good?.. How suddenly you realize what a happy life we had! There is nothing more valuable than freedom. When you go wherever you want, the step is wider and nothing threatens you except yourself, no one limits you, you are deprived of outside control.” On Wednesday, Irina posted a photo of her husband and daughter, succinctly captioning the frame: “Summer and... love.”

Childhood and adolescence

Irina Grineva was born on February 6, 1973 in the capital of Tatarstan, in the family of a woman who not only dreamed of becoming an actress, but also had the talent and stunning appearance for this. But her acting career did not work out due to personal circumstances - very early, at the age of 19, she became a wife and mother.

Ever since Irina can remember, her mother taught her to art: she took her to the theater, where the girl enthusiastically watched the actors play, and in the evenings the woman read Russian classics to her daughter.

When Ira was 5, her parents divorced. Dad stayed to live in Kazan, and she and her mother moved to her grandmother, where she finally got a break from her mother’s strict upbringing - the grandmother spoiled her granddaughter every day.

At school, Ira began studying in the drama club, and at the age of ten she passed a strict selection process for the Vaganova ballet school. But, despite the opening prospects, her parents did not let her go to Leningrad, considering her too young to live independently in a boarding school. Later, she herself lost interest in dancing, concentrating on acting. However, the skills she acquired in childhood helped her more than once in the future.

After graduating from high school, Ira went to Moscow to enter a theater university. To her great disappointment, she did not succeed in becoming a student in the capital.

Having arrived from Kazan to Moscow at the age of 16, I looked like Pippi Longstocking - very thin, only knees and nose, and two thin ponytails on my head.

Without thinking twice, the girl took the documents and left for Yaroslavl, where she was accepted into the local theater institute. Having successfully graduated from the university, Ira returned to Moscow again and entered the Anton Vasiliev School of Dramatic Art, famous for its stage experiments. There, the young actress attended an expressive plastic class under the guidance of Gennady Abramov, where she was able to fully realize her ballet ambitions.

Irina Grineva admitted for what role she “desperately ran” throughout her vacation

The actress said that she brought her figure to perfection because of the piquant costume in the play

Actress Irina Grineva showed on her microblog on Instagram a photo from her dressing room in her underwear. She admitted that she ran “so desperately” for the role of Blanche DuBois in the play “A Streetcar Named Desire” because in the third act that was “the costume of my heroine.”

Fans agreed that Grineva has a magnificent figure and the actress herself is a person with character. “Flint,” wrote one of the residents of Voronezh about Irina, who recently watched a performance in her hometown.

Followers did not understand what kind of passion for running the actress, who came to the sea to relax with her family, had.

Actor career

In 1995, she made her debut on the capital’s stage in the play “Hopscotch,” based on the novel of the same name by Julio Cortazar. The role of Magi became a landmark in the actress’s career and brought her her first theater award – “Best Debut” at the festival. Vladimir Vysotsky.

Subsequently, the director of the play, Vladimir Ageev, involved her in his other productions: “Antigone”, “Ornithology”, “Salome”. For her role in the latter, she was awarded the Golden Lyre Award in the Excellence category.

"I will be there!"

Speaking about her childhood, Irina Grineva often remembers her mother, an actress who abandoned her stage career for the sake of her family.
However, mom managed to instill good taste in Ira. They often went to classic film screenings, when Ira felt involved in the world of the game. "I will be there!" - she said, not yet even knowing the word “actress”. And there she was. In Irina’s career there was a place both for the theater stage and for the film and TV sets. She has two dozen theatrical roles in productions of Shakespeare, Wilde, Gogol, Turgenev, Chekhov and other classics. However, starting from the late 2000s, Grineva makes her choice in favor of filming films and television series. Although the actress’s cinematic career includes few “folk” films, she was still loved by the audience.

And besides this, the girl draws, writes poetry and fairy tales, performs in various television shows and draws. And on Irina Grineva’s Instagram you can touch different sides of her talent.

Today Grineva is married to figure skater Maxim Shabalin. The couple has a daughter, Vasilisa. Irina’s previous husband was director Andrei Zvyagintsev; however, the marriage did not last long and received neither life nor creative development.

Personal life of Irina Grineva

Until recently, Irina did not like to talk about her personal life. She devoted six years of her life to the famous director Andrei Zvyagintsev, with whom she broke up in 2010. The actress does not advertise their love story and the reason for the breakup.

The actress was introduced to her future husband, figure skater Maxim Shabalin, by their mutual friend, actor Euclid Kyurdzilis. They had already met once before, but were not interested in each other. But during the second meeting, Cupid’s arrow hit the target and ignited a real love fire in their hearts.

Three days later, the athlete proposed to the actress, and a few months later their wedding took place. In the summer of 2013, the couple became parents for the first time - their baby Vasilisa was born.
