As the creators say, “in the new season, Maria Shevtsova and her colleagues in the investigative department will face new challenges in the service and in their personal lives. An RG correspondent visited the set. Due to restrictions and compliance with safety measures, there are two of them, in different places, the series is filmed in parallel by two teams, two directors - Egor Barinov and Egor Abrosimov (he has experience in filming “Cop Wars”, and once played in “Secrets of the Investigation” opera).
A sign appeared on the building of the Higher School of Economics, on the Griboyedov Canal: “Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation.” This was done by the production designers. As they say, there was no filming in the committee itself. The people who fill the excursion boats that float on the water every now and then on these warm days look with interest: they are filming a movie!
Actor Igor Nikolaev is on the set. He has been filming this series for so long that he doesn’t remember the exact date (since 2001, as the story goes). Then his hero Korablev was an investigator. Then he became a major, and last year he became a lieutenant colonel.
In the director's chair is Egor Barinov, an actor who is already filming the fourth season of the popular "Secrets".

“The casting is simply excellent!”
When “Secrets of the Investigation” began filming, you were about 25 years old. Were you a fan of this series?
Egor Barinov: Probably not. In those years I was interested in something else. Of course I saw it, a good series that is nice to watch when you turn on the TV. I liked the heroine, the heroes, the city of St. Petersburg...
Did you offer to star in it?
Egor Barinov: They didn’t offer it, St. Petersburg artists are more busy here, and I’m in Moscow. My ex-wife starred in it. Back then I had no idea that I would be filming this series. Over the years, I graduated from the Higher Directing Courses and shot several short films, but such a big project is my first experience.
What locations have been chosen for Season 20?
Egor Barinov: Griboyedov Canal Embankment - I love these places, I have an apartment left over from my grandmother in this area, and part of my life is spent here, and part in Moscow. I really like Kolomna, “little Venice”, it’s convenient to work here - beautiful exteriors and almost no traffic. Some scenes were filmed on Vasilyevsky Island, where there are also many beautiful places. And in Kronstadt.
Due to the pandemic, it has become more difficult to arrange filming in apartments. And so our Masha “moved” - to the house of a professor, her university teacher, who went for treatment and invited her to live in his country house to look after the dog and feed the fish. By the way, the location is very beautiful - on Lake Pike in Komarovo.
Will there be new operatives?
Egor Barinov: Last season Alexey Komashko (Major Oleg Platonov) appeared. Now there is also Radmil Khairutdinov, a young actor. Everything is very organic, I think it will add activity. Another interesting actor is Maxim Khanzhov from the Lensovet Theater (where, by the way, Anna Kovalchuk also works) - in the role of a famous St. Petersburg artist who stars in a series, plays in the theater, and has his own club.
As always, Kurochkin (Alexander Novikov) is involved in the investigation; he has family problems. But I can’t tell you about the events in the service and in the personal lives of the heroes - “secrets of the investigation.”
This season we were lucky with the casting - simply excellent, everyone is super professional, not just the actors. The youth are very good.
Anna Kovalchuk gave birth on the set
— Every day I watch the series “Secrets of the Investigation.” I really like the main character, played by Anna Kovalchuk. Tell us about her, please. Irina. Samara.
Anna Kovalchuk got into “Secrets of the Investigation” almost by deception. According to the script, the heroine Maria Shvetsova is over thirty. And when the casting took place, the actress was only 22. When signing up for the audition, Anna decided to cheat: she said that she was 29, and specially did her hairstyle, which made her look older... And she admitted to deception after she had passed the audition.
By the way, Anna did not get the role right away. Kovalchuk is not at all like the strict Shvetsova - in life she is a more open and cheerful person. Meeting screenwriter Elena Topilskaya helped. She is the prototype of the main character and wrote the script from herself. Later, Shvetsova and Kovalchuk “became friends”: the heroine made the actress more self-confident, and in some ways even tough. Anna admits that before it was difficult for her to say “no” to people, she could not respond to rudeness, and in difficult situations she simply cried. Now I have learned to find a worthy answer.
When the first episodes of “Secrets” were filmed, it turned out that Anna was pregnant and was going to give birth (the actress was married to actor Anatoly Ilchenko, whom she divorced in 2004). The filmmakers decided not to hide the actress’s situation and rewrote in the script everything that related to the personal life of investigator Masha Shvetsova. Moreover, the director was able to persuade the actress to give birth almost on camera. According to Anna, the scene turned out to be very beautiful and delicate, and footage of the birth of Zlata’s daughter appeared in the home archive.
Rumor has it that Anna will soon marry again. Now she is dating a certain St. Petersburg businessman named Oleg. The couple appears together, but does not comment on wedding rumors.
Is Kristin Kreuk a future forensic scientist?

Olga Shkineva: Honestly? No. Just a glimpse. Every day you see this at work - a few frames, several takes, and you already know what will happen on the screen. I heard from the actors that they watch - to evaluate their performance, to see how they look.
