Preparing for any celebration, be it a birthday, a corporate event, a wedding (your own or a loved one’s), is always stressful for a woman. Contrary to popular male opinion, girls dress quickly. Any woman who has chosen an outfit in advance can put on underwear, tights and a dress in a matter of minutes. But before you get dressed, you need to do your makeup and hair. And these procedures can take hours. Moreover, the result is not always successful on the first try, and something has to be changed and redone.
At the same time, every girl wonders what is done first - makeup or hairstyle. Each option has its advantages, as well as disadvantages.
Professional makeup
Professional make-up is a special form of art. It has practically nothing to do with everyday makeup, the one that every woman does for herself. Holiday or evening makeup done by a makeup artist will not lose its freshness even after a few hours: the foundation will not run, the lipstick will not smear, the shadows will remain in their places and will not bunch up into unsightly lumps. Considering the fact that any celebration is photographed by a photographer, and faces are often taken close-up, it is easy to understand why professional makeup becomes a necessity.
The whole secret is in cosmetics. You can’t buy it in a regular store; even in branded boutiques there are no such products. The magical inscription “professional” does not make mascara and lipstick so. Makeup artists buy all their tools to order, in large palettes. And the price of such a miracle suitcase is quite high. Therefore, you should not be horrified by the cost of makeup from a good artist - he includes in it not only the cost of his time, but also the cost of expensive materials.
But what to do first - makeup or hair? What do make-up and hairdressing masters do in cases where their work conflicts?
Large curls
The first hairstyle option with which any woman will look luxurious, even if she doesn’t have time to apply makeup, is curls. But not just any, but definitely large ones.

A curling iron, flat iron or hair dryer brush is suitable for this hairstyle. This hairstyle is suitable for hair of medium length and below. It will be difficult to curl short ones neatly on your own.
Hairstyle at home and in the hairdresser
Young girls often experiment with daily styling. At a young age, people tend to change their look frequently, as they are looking for their own style and love to try everything new. For older women, especially working women, a minimum of time is allotted for styling - no more than 10-15 minutes. At the same time, hair is often curled in curlers in the evening, so make-up is done first.
When a professional does the styling for a holiday, it’s a completely different matter. She is more complex, refined - with her hair raised high, as in ancient portraits, or in the style of a Greek goddess, with beautifully flowing curls. Ribbons, beads, flowers and other decorations are often woven into the hair. A master can spend several hours on this installation.
So what do you do first - makeup or hair? In fact, both options have their advantages. Let's look at them in more detail.
Why you should do your makeup first
What is better to do first - hair or makeup? If you ask a makeup artist, he will vote for the makeup to be done first. And there are several reasons for this:
- Until styling is done, you can apply the correct foundation - along the hairline, on the neck and décolleté.
- Flowing curls are very disturbing.
- The dye may accidentally get on your hair.
- Quite often, the trial version of the makeup is washed off, which can cause damage to your hairstyle.
Types of makeup
There are several main types:
- day makeup;
- evening;
- modest businesslike;
- wedding or holiday makeup;
- fantasy;
- age.
We will dwell in more detail on the daytime one, since it is used most often. A distinctive feature of daytime makeup is its lightness and unobtrusiveness. Neutral shades predominate in daytime makeup. Do not forget that in daytime makeup the emphasis should be placed either on the eyes or on the lips . It is also believed that daytime makeup is a kind of basis for evening makeup. If you have an event planned in the evening, then after a working day it will be easier for you to touch up the makeup you’ve already applied and add bright accents than to wash your face and put on your makeup again.
Why you should do the styling first
The hairdresser has a different opinion. And if you ask him what is done first - hairstyle or makeup, he will vote for hairstyle. And that's why:
- During styling, use a hot hairdryer, and the foundation may “float.”
- The hair is moistened with water, which blurs the border of the makeup along the hairline.
- During fixation, foam and varnish may get on the face. It looks especially ugly when using glitter polish. If you start wiping styling products off your face, you will have to reapply your makeup. If you don’t remove them, they will still appear in the photo. Not to mention, it's just plain annoying.
- Sometimes during styling you need to slightly trim your bangs. This will cause your hair to fall on your face.
So what do you do first - makeup or hair? This is quite a difficult choice. If you do one job earlier, there is a risk that it will be ruined during the second procedure. Fortunately, there is a third option where you don’t have to choose.

, 10 Things to Do in Phu Quoc Island You Shouldn't Miss [UPDATED] This article may contain affiliate/compensated links. For full details, please see our disclaimer here.
We absolutely love beach holidays in Southeast Asia. We've visited the beaches of Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia many times, but recently discovered one of the most beautiful beach spots in Southeast Asia - Phu Quoc Island.
We spent 5 days here after weeks of traveling around Vietnam and simply fell in love with the place. Laying out for a few hours on the amazing beaches followed by a swim in the warm ocean, a massage and a few cocktails in the sun followed by a delicious dinner on the beach.
What I really like about Fukuoka compared to other beach destinations in Southeast Asia is the lack of chaos. While there are beach and street vendors, they don't try to convince you to buy something every five seconds, and there isn't any of the crazy traffic you'd expect when traveling in Southeast Asia.
All this makes it the ideal place to come and completely relax and unwind.
If I haven't convinced you to come to Phu Quoc Island yet, here are some more reasons to start planning your seaside vacation to Vietnam.
Things to do on Phu Quoc Island
Explore the stunning beaches of Fukuoka
I don't think I've ever visited an island with so many stunning beaches. Seriously, Phu Quoc Island has some of the best beaches in the world. The beaches have soft fine white sand and are lined with coconut palms - yes, straight out of a postcard.
Some beaches have warm, crystal clear and calm water, while others have soft waves. Some beaches are so isolated that there is no one there but you!
My favorite beaches by far are Long Beach and Ong Lang Beach - both are very similar in that the ocean is calm and feels like a warm pool, which is my kind of beach. The most famous beach on Phu Quoc Island is Bai San, where the ocean has soft waves and various swings for your Instagram photos. You can also check out the marine life around the islands on a snorkeling trip around Phu Quoc .

wander around Phu Quoc prison
Phu Quoc Prison housed Vietnamese soldiers during the Vietnam War. The prison currently houses a museum where you can see instruments of torture, photographs of former prisoners, and various exhibits with life-size mannequins depicting graphic scenes of what life was like in the prison during its operation.
Although the prison is not for everyone, it provides tourists with an opportunity to learn more about Vietnam's history and be reminded of the atrocities of war.
The prison is open from 7:30 to 11:00 and 13:30 to 17:00 daily, and entry costs around 3,000 Vietnamese dong per person. Tours are available in different languages.
Dinh Cau Night Markets
Unlike most markets in Southeast Asia, this isn't a place where you can buy a bunch of fancy souvenirs - it's mainly a place for fresh seafood and local Vietnamese dishes. If you want to try local delicacies, I encourage you to visit this night market.
You can even choose between a live frog or a snake, which will be cooked fresh for you (yes, no, I'm fine!). One of my favorite things to eat at night markets is delicious ice cream - I love it!!
They have a variety of flavors that they crush into fresh ice cream and roll it into little cups - delicious!! You can visit Dinh Cau night markets any night of the week from 5 to 10 pm.
Editor's Recommendation: Take a Cooking Lesson
One of our favorite things about traveling is the opportunity to try and learn about new cuisines! Since we travel full time, taking a cooking class in every place we go is like the best souvenir.

Visit to Dinh Cau Rock (Cau Temple)
Cau Temple is located next to Duong Dong fishing harbor and is an oddly shaped rock formation that local fisherman pray to before going fishing.
The temple has a brightly colored lighthouse and a Buddhist shrine, making it totally Instagrammable.
You can walk to the top of the temple for a fantastic view of Dinh Cau beach and fishing boats. Dinh Cau Roc is also a fantastic place for sunset photography. The temple is open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Relax on the beach
My favorite thing to do on Phu Quoc Island is spend hours without doing much on the beach. I just love lying in a comfortable chair on the beach, soaking up the sun, where I can read a little, swim a little, have a drink or two. In fact, I can do this all day.
Along Long Beach, which is the main tourist beach on Phu Quoc Island, there are women selling fresh fruit when you get a little hungry. You can also visit massage parlors if you want to pamper yourself. This is totally my idea of heaven!

Watch the sunset on the beach with a few cocktails
After a hard day at the beach or perhaps exploring the island, find a trendy bag on the beach at a trendy beach bar, order yourself a cocktail and watch the spectacular sunset. If you're like me and traveling with kids, beach bars are ideal as the kids can play in the sand, even swim, while the adults relax with a few drinks.
One of our favorite places to do this was Rory's . The bar has colorful lanterns, sun loungers and tables right on the beach.
The owner Rory is great with children. While we were there, he dressed up as a pirate, with a bird on his shoulder, and told the kids stories about pirates and hidden treasures while the parents relaxed. Once the sun goes down, Rory's features beach bonfires and delicious food.
Explore the island by motorbike
If you can, rent a motorbike and explore the island on your own. Traffic on Phu Quoc Island is not like Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City and I felt safe. With your own transport, you can explore some of those beaches I mentioned above and visit various tiny local villages such as Gan Dau.
You can also stop at a local bakery and try some delicious baked goods. Other places you can visit include Pepper Plantations, Phu Quoc National Park and Fish Sauce Factory.
If you're not confident in riding a motorcycle, just hire yourself a driver for the day, there are plenty of taxis in the area and you can negotiate a rate with them for the day. Also, there are plenty of tours like this one that will take you around main attractions of the island.
Explore local life in Ham Ninh village
Ham Ninh Village is a picturesque fishing village and a great place to experience the daily life of local fishermen. For those who love fresh fish, the village is a great place to try seafood at a good price, as well as try some unusual dishes such as sea cucumber soup. Sorry, I don't eat seafood so I can't tell you what cucumber soup tastes like!
Explore the An Thoi Islands
If you think Phu Quoc Island is stunning, wait until you see the gorgeous An Thoi Islands! Just off the southern tip of Phu Quoc Island you'll find 15 tiny islands that make up the An Thoi Islands. The various islands are ideal for daytime snorkeling, swimming and fishing.
You can join a variety of boat trips or even charter your own private boat. Just book early as these tours book up quickly!
Visit to Suoi Tran Waterfall
Last but not least, if you are tired of the sea and sun, you can visit Suoi Tranh Waterfall. Although it is not very high, this 4-meter waterfall is located in a beautiful location surrounded by lush rainforests, caves and rock pools. From the main entrance, you can easily reach the falls in 10-15 minutes.
For those who love hiking, you can walk a little further past the waterfall, about 15 kilometers, and you will reach Hang Doi (Bat Grotto), which is a cave just 200 meters high with stalactites. Entrance to the waterfall is 5000 Vietnamese dong.
We hope this article has given you an idea of what to do and how to spend your time in Phu Quoc Island. While Vietnam doesn't always equate to sunny beaches, if you're looking for a few days of sun and sand, Phu Quoc Island is certainly a great choice.
Tips for transport in Vietnam

Their websites are very user-friendly and easy to use, eliminating the need to line up at bus stations in advance to reserve your ticket!
Safety in Fukuoka
Generally speaking, Phu Quoc Island is extremely safe. This is island life defined! However, as with most trips, we recommend making sure you have travel insurance. We recommend either World Nomads or Safety Wing , depending on the type of traveler you are.

, Estée Lauder Double Wear Light Indispensable makeup on the spot Legit
Estée Lauder Double Wear Light ($42), and I know this because I had a hot lunch with Connor and El Hub today (Bookmarks came in too, but it was booked... BOO! ).
It was cold here today so we got ramen...
Anyway... I didn't wear a lot of makeup last weekend and today I was in the mood for something small, so this morning when I was looking for inspiration I discovered this light bronze eyeshadow look from MAC Artist I just had found it on Instagram.
She is so cute! Her name is Pelin Tutgun and she is from Turkey. She posted a video using one of my favorite MAC eyeshadows: bronze (if you don't already have it, it's amazing), black liner, and mascara.
And it's all!
I love the end result and plan to do this look again soon. It's kind of glamorous, but not too glamorous, and most importantly, it's simple.
Makeup doesn't have to be complicated all the time, you know? I mean, it's fun to get up there with everything and the kitchen sink every now and then, but I have something to say for the easy-peasy.
I'm NC42 in MAC and wear shade 4.0, but as summer approaches and I get a little tan, I'll switch to 4.5, which is a little darker.
What I really want to talk about now is the base I'm wearing! This is new... Well, new to me. It's part of an ongoing line from Estée Lauder called Double Wear Light and it's SO GOOD.
I'm not sure how exactly to classify it... It's quite runny, so it feels comfortable and lightweight, like a tinted moisturizer or BB/CC cream, but it's very pigmented and has a very polished soft matte finish.
Here's Double Light Light in 4.0 in natural light.
On the Estée Lauder website they describe it as a full to medium coverage foundation, but I would describe it as a straight medium right out of the gate. I only need to use a little bit for enough coverage to even out my skin tone but keep it natural.
Today I barely had to use anything - just a few drops on each side of my face - to cover up the red areas on my cheeks and partially cover up my freckles.
I can still see some of them... so it's not full coverage, but I think if I wanted to go that far, this could totally get me there.
And here it is with the flash.
The best part is how easy it is - it's like I'm not wearing any base makeup at all. And it's very easy to use. Just mix with your fingers. It also comes in a jumble of shades and it's in a constant line so it doesn't go anywhere.
Seriously, so legal! Do yourself a favor and give it a try if you haven't already.
Oh yeah, one more thing - if you're wondering about the lip, I can't officially talk about it yet... but it's coming out next month. More deets coming soon!
