The principle of action of Botox and cream with Botox effect: similarities and differences

It is well known that the popular Botox injections are nothing more than the injection of a microdose of botulinum toxin type A under the skin, which leads to temporary paralysis of the muscle and its subsequent relaxation. The first results - muscle relaxation and wrinkle smoothing - are noticeable already on the second or third day after botuloxin injections (Botox and Dysport are the most commonly used drugs). The results after the first procedure last for about 6 months. With repeated use, the duration of the achieved effect is noticeably reduced (up to 2-3 months) - even cosmetologists admit this, therefore it is recommended to inject botuloxin as a last resort, when other methods of rejuvenation have already been tried.

As for the use of a cream with a Botox effect, in this case not only the mechanism of action is different, but also the time frame for achieving the result - smoothing out wrinkles. The mechanism of action of Botox cream is based on an intercellular neurochemical reaction. When we frown or smile, nerve endings, interacting with protein compounds, transmit a corresponding impulse to the muscles, resulting in muscle contraction. The result is the appearance of extremely persistent expression wrinkles, also known as wrinkles of sorrow or joy.

This feature of cells was taken as the basis for the development of a substance that would block the activity of nerve endings that lead muscles to contract. The most effective among the products developed by cosmetologists are peptides - substances that displace proteins. The most widely used are hexapeptide-3 (argireline) and octamioxyl. Moreover, according to reviews from cosmetologists, it is recommended to use it for 6 weeks, after which you continue to maintain the achieved result, using the cream no more than 1-2 times a week. If you stop using the cream, the rejuvenation effect will continue for another 4-6 months.

Speaking about the benefits of using a cream with the Botox effect, these are, in particular:

1. Natural result . The cream really reduces the depth and number of wrinkles, and the smallest ones completely disappear. When using the cream, facial expressions remain free, which means the face looks natural, which is impossible after using injections.
2. Comprehensive skin rejuvenation . As a rule, creams with the Botox effect include additional anti-aging components that nourish, moisturize, stimulate the production of collagen and elastin, improve metabolic processes, prevent the harmful effects of free radicals, and protect the skin from the negative effects of the environment.
3. Use even on delicate areas of the skin . Many cosmetologists believe that the use of cream is most effective and efficient after Botox injections. In this case, the cream prolongs the achieved results. After the first course of injections, the muscles begin to “come to life” within two to three months, and the effect lasts for 6 months. Next, the course of the procedure must be repeated, and if repeated, the duration of the achieved result is significantly reduced. Whereas the use of a cream, according to cosmetologists, which prevents the complete restoration of muscle activity, allows you to maintain the results of rejuvenation for up to a year.

Disadvantages of using cream

Despite the fact that a cream with the effect of Botox and injections with botulinum toxin work on a similar principle (block the work of facial muscles), the result of their influence is noticeably different. With cream it is less pronounced; it will not be able to smooth out deep wrinkles. It will not relieve age-related skin changes and swelling.

Therefore, Botox cream is more suitable for women 30–35 years old, in whom wrinkles are just beginning to appear. After fifty, it can be used to smooth out shallow expression wrinkles and prolong the results after Botox injections.

Its other disadvantages include:

• long wait for results;
• high price;
• the need for regular use throughout the course.

Despite the fact that the cream is a cosmetic product, it has certain contraindications (they are, of course, much less than in the case of injections), including:

• pregnancy, lactation;
• tendency to edema;
• parallel use of alpha-hydroxy acids (glycolic, lactic, tartaric, citric, i.e. those used in superficial chemical peeling). Cream and acid neutralize each other's effects;
• long period of use (experts do not recommend using the cream daily for more than 3 months, since it slows down lymphatic drainage, i.e. leads to the same swelling).

As for the indications, a cream with a Botox effect provides the best results on relatively young skin (recommended for women between 30 and 45 years old). At an older age (after 50-55 years), it can also be used, but the effect will not be as significant - only minor wrinkles will smooth out or disappear, since muscle relaxants do not act on age-related wrinkles that appear as a result of photoaging or dehydration of the skin. Also, the cream is powerless in case of bags or swelling under the eyes.

In all other cases, the cream significantly smoothes, nourishes, moisturizes and rejuvenates the skin. As mentioned above, in the first month and a half it is recommended to use it every day. Apply to previously cleansed skin (ideally, it is advisable to take a steam bath before application).
