Cooking tips for a young housewife

We offer young housewives a small number of simple tips that will help maintain good spirits and the joy of family life.

• Sticky pasta is often the result of being cooked in a small saucepan with too little water. The golden rule of pasta is lots of water.

• For good lump-free mashed potatoes, choose mealy potatoes. Cut them into equal sized pieces so they cook evenly. When ready, drain the water and return the potatoes to the pan and mash, keeping the pan over low heat to remove excess water.

• Keep olive oil and spices away from sunlight as they dry out quickly in the sun.

• Remove cheese from the refrigerator several hours before eating. It will be much tastier and more aromatic.

• To make rice a little more original, boil it, add a tablespoon of olive oil, lemon zest and juice. Season with freshly ground black pepper.

• Use kitchen scissors rather than a knife to cut fresh herbs, as this will leave all the flavor on the board and save you a few minutes.

• It is best to fry potatoes in a very hot frying pan and add salt when the slices are browned on all sides. If you salt it earlier, the potatoes will release juice, which mixes with fat, and the slices will lose their shape, color and taste.

• To give the broth a golden color, take an onion, cut it crosswise into two parts and fry it in a frying pan without fat. Then the onion is dipped into the broth and boiled along with the meat. You can also roast coarsely chopped carrots for the same purpose.

• If you want to add raw onions to the salad, chop them finely, put them in a colander and pour boiling water over them. It tastes much better this way.

• Don't make salad ahead of time. Season and add salt only before serving.

• Unlike other vegetables, beets are not boiled in salt water; they become less tasty and lose color. For the same reason, you should not cut off the root of the beets completely.

• It is better not to boil beets, carrots and potatoes for salads and vinaigrettes in water, but bake them in the oven, wrapped in foil. This will preserve more nutrients and vitamins, as well as color and taste.

• To crack a coconut, wrap it in a towel, place it on a hard surface and hit it as hard as you can with a hammer. You can also chop walnuts - wrap them in a towel so that the shells do not scatter throughout the kitchen.

• Don’t have a string to tie the legs of a chicken or tie a roll so it doesn’t fall apart? Tear off a piece of foil of the required length and twist it into a thin rope. Holds great and doesn't burn!
