Carla Bruni seemed to be a soul next to Sarkozy in 2008 in Georgia

Simple and tasteful: we analyze the style of Carla Bruni

We continue our conversation about the style of first ladies with a discussion of Carla Bruni's wardrobe.
The wife of former French President Nicolas Sarkozy is a real beauty, a former top model, so any appearance of her in the world still attracts a lot of attention. Casual chic

The story of Carla Bruni certainly inspires young models striving for fame and a beautiful life. A successful campaign for the Guess brand provided her with a career boost; soon she was already one of the highest paid models in the world and collaborated with Dior, Givenchy, Chanel and other industry giants. In the early 2000s, Bruni pursued a music career and released her debut album. And in 2007, she met Sarkozy and literally a few months after the first meeting received a marriage proposal.

During his journey from a fashion model to the president's wife, Bruni's style has not changed much. “Casual chic” is how fashion critics describe it. Carla has always loved perfectly fitting pantsuits, tight long dresses, skinny trousers and fitted jackets. And with a model figure like hers, there are practically no outfits that would look bad on her.

Fashion landmarks

Karla believes that it was her profession that helped her learn how to dress. Although, in her opinion, you either have a sense of style or you don’t, it is impossible to develop this quality.

By the way, I never had one. Modeling helped me understand: style cannot be bought, it is something very personal.

However, Bruni knows exactly what not to do in order not to look like a fashion victim:

A total look from one designer is just ridiculous, it’s the opposite of fashion. If you have the same shoes, bag and hat, you will look like a Christmas tree. Something else I wouldn't wear would be shoulder pads. Or pointed-toe shoes. Or skinny jeans. Or low-waisted pants. They deprive you of your waist and hips - and these are the best places!

As Carla says in an interview, it was always important for her that her clothes emphasized her femininity. Role models were Jane Birkin and Audrey Hepburn. It was with them that young Bruni identified herself because of her fragility.

They have always been style icons for girls with small breasts. When I was 15, I wanted a figure like Brigitte Bardot, but at the same time I saw that Audrey Hepburn looked no less elegant.

Fashionable tricks

Carla favors feminine silhouettes and solid colors, whether for casual or evening wear. She often wears dark, although there are exceptions, but among her favorite colors are clearly black, purple, dark blue, and gray. But Bruni is indifferent to bright colors, prints, flashy decor and, in general, any excesses; her images are always laconic.

For the red carpet, the former first lady chooses something quite simple, but at the same time stunning (like her light-colored dress during her recent appearance at the Cannes Film Festival).

It’s even better if the outfit has a “wow” effect, Bruni is sure:

When I walked in my last show for Yves Saint Laurent, I asked for one of the dresses in lieu of payment. From the front it looks strict and correct. No neckline, long, very simple. And the back is all bare. My mom was shocked when she saw me in it. Contrast is what makes an impression.

Makeup and hairstyle

Karla admits that she is close to the fashion for naturalness.

My style is very simple: natural hairstyle and minimal makeup,

- she says. Of all the beauty brands, Bruni prefers makeup artist Pat McGrath's own brand, "because makeup artists know all the nuances of the skin."

Decorations

The fact that Carla prefers minimalism does not exclude her affection for jewelry. Moreover, the celebrity has a successful collaboration with the Bvlgari brand, for which she once decided to return to her modeling past for a while.

Decoration is more than just a thing. This is something more intimate - even in terms of physical contact.

Jewelry is often worn on bare skin, often next to the heart... And every piece of jewelry - from the simplest ring to an extravagant necklace - has its own story. I really like things with history

- said Bruni.

Marriage to Sarkozy

Bruni met Nicolas Sarkozy in the fall of 2007, shortly after his divorce; They spent the Christmas holidays together and visited many holiday destinations. On January 8, 2008, Sarkozy at a press conference confirmed the fact of their romance and hinted that he was going to marry Karla. On February 2, 2008, the wedding of Bruni and Sarkozy took place at the Elysee Palace. This is Nicolas' third marriage. For the first time, the head of the French Republic got married while serving as president.

In March 2008, Carla accompanied her husband on an official visit to the UK, where she received considerable public attention. In the summer (no later than July 9 - publication in Le Figaro) she received French citizenship.

On October 19, 2011, Carla Bruni gave birth to a daughter, Julia.[2]

Political Views

Not being a French citizen at that time, Carla Bruni did not vote in the 2007 presidential elections, but stated in an interview that she would have voted for Sarkozy’s opponent, Ségolène Royal[3]. She also spoke out against the use of genetic tests in family reunification (a hot-button issue in France at the end of 2007, considered by the Constitutional Council). In general, she assures that she is not a political figure. The above-mentioned press conference by Sarkozy is the only text in which she is mentioned on the official website of the President of the Republic.
