Sigourney was born to influential NBC television producer Sylvester "Pat" Weaver and former British actress Elizabeth Inglis in New York City. As a child, the future actress was surrounded by numerous nannies and maids, and when it was time to study, Susan’s mother sent her to a private New York school. Since childhood, Weaver was much taller than her peers, so she often became the object of ridicule from the latter.
