How to wash beets from clothes

T-shirts have long gone beyond workwear and become part of the everyday style of almost every person. They go well with most other clothes and wardrobe items, and are very comfortable to wear. However, as for white T-shirts, they get dirty quite quickly, yellow stains from sweat and deodorant appear on them, and even slight dirt becomes a bright and ugly stain on your favorite thing, and immediately catches your eye.

dirty white t-shirt

And if in general the question of how to wash T-shirts is not particularly difficult for most, then lovers of branded clothing sooner or later face the problem of how to wash a white T-shirt so as to preserve its original appearance and snow-whiteness.

Main problems

What contaminants do housewives most often encounter when it comes to washing white T-shirts? Mainly:

  • greasy spots;
  • traces of drinks such as wine, coffee or cocoa, tea stains;
  • rust on a T-shirt;
  • yellow stains from sweat and deodorant;
  • traces from office supplies, for example, from a pen, felt-tip pen or marker.

This is not a complete list of what can happen to an item, and as you can see, these are not just grease stains on a T-shirt. Not all of them pose a real problem when cleaning; sometimes regular washing is enough. And in order to get rid of more serious contaminants, special means will be required.

You need to understand what kind of care a white T-shirt requires, in principle, since fading and yellowing, as well as stains on the fabric due to improper washing, are no less common than the above-mentioned contaminants.

General recommendations

Before you start washing an item, you need to decide what fabric it is made from, since the temperature conditions and the possibility of using certain detergents depend on this. A label that is usually sewn on the wrong side of a T-shirt will help you with this. Most manufacturers strive to inform customers as fully as possible about how to care for the product, because this determines whether people will turn to them for purchases in the future. The tag contains information about the composition, temperature conditions, washing and drying features of the product.

For example, if a T-shirt is made of cotton fabric, then the product can be washed both by hand and in a washing machine at a temperature of 50-60°C. Such fabric can even withstand boiling, but it is still not recommended, since at such high temperatures changes in the structure of the fabric fibers are observed. But it is better to wash white T-shirts made of cotton with a mixture of lycra by hand, at a temperature not exceeding 40°C, and with minimal spin, since the T-shirt can stretch if it is twisted too much.

If you still decide to wash the T-shirt in the washing machine, then it is better to choose a delicate or manual wash mode, and set the minimum spin speed. If you have a wool T-shirt, then wash it only by hand, in warm water and with a gentle spin.

Linen must be sorted before washing. Under no circumstances should white T-shirts be washed with black or colored items, as this may damage the light-colored item irrevocably. And if the T-shirt itself has colored inserts, then you should wash the product separately by hand in warm water.

It is better to dry a washed T-shirt naturally in the shade or in a well-ventilated area, securing it on a rope with clothespins at the bottom edge, or simply spreading it on a flat surface.

What else should you pay attention to? White T-shirts turn yellow very quickly from improper washing. And although there are many means for bleaching, both special and traditional (for example, using boric acid), it is still better to initially carefully care for the item rather than try to correct the results of improper cleaning.

An important point in properly caring for white T-shirts is also choosing the right detergent.

  1. If the manufacturer allows machine washing, then the most obvious solution would be to use professional products and a washing machine. Washing at temperatures above 60 degrees is not recommended.
  2. Be careful when choosing a washing powder; it must be suitable for the material from which the items are made. When choosing powder for children's clothing, give preference to liquid and gel-based products, this way you will get rid of the risk of finding traces of undissolved powder granules.
  3. Laundry soap is an indispensable assistant during hand washing. It helps in the fight against both fresh stains and already dried stains.
  4. Bleach is only suitable for oxygen-based bleach. For children's clothing, the use of chlorine-containing bleach is unacceptable and you need to be careful when choosing bleach. 5. If you don’t have special products on hand and you don’t know how to remove an apple stain, use folk methods. You will find acidic or alcohol-containing products at home. Hydrogen peroxide or glycerin will also work. Each of these products can help remove stains from your items.
  1. A few hours before washing, soak the clothes in water, after adding household chemicals made specifically to remove dirt. These substances can be either washing powders or special gels and fabric softeners. After soaking, wash the items.
  2. Acid-containing products will help you wash apples from clothes. You can use oxalic acid or concentrated lemon juice. Fill the contaminant so that the acid covers it completely. Dilute the powder with a small amount of warm water and leave to soak for 10-15 minutes, then wash.
  3. An unusual solution, which contains vodka and glycerin in equal proportions, will help remove old apple stains. Dampen a soft cloth with the solution and blot any traces of juice with it. After 10 minutes, the product can already be washed.
  4. Using ammonia diluted equally in water, you can wash off the juice that has ingrained itself into the fabric. Apply the mixture to the desired area for 5 minutes, then wash and rinse the items thoroughly.
  1. Using laundry soap and milk will help restore cleanliness to delicate white fabrics. Rub some laundry soap, dissolve it by adding warm milk to the shavings. Treat the stain with the resulting mixture and then wash.
  2. The bleach will help remove the apple stain from white items. To do this, mix 10 liters of water and two caps of bleach. Soak the contaminated item for 20-30 minutes and then wash it. If you have particularly stubborn stains, you can take a little bleach and rub it into the dirty area.
  3. Cotton items and other delicate fabrics can be boiled briefly. Boiling things helps remove all contaminants from white clothes, but at the same time spoils the texture of the fabric. You should not use this washing method often. Place a couple of tablespoons of detergent or bleach and dirty clothes into boiling water. 15 minutes of intense boiling is enough for complete cleaning.
  4. If you find juice stains on a white T-shirt, try using turpentine and baking soda. Mix soda with turpentine until it becomes a paste, then treat the stain from the wrong side and rinse the item thoroughly.

Before hand washing, the products are soaked in a special solution. This will help you easily remove apple juice stains from clothes. Rub a quarter of a bar of laundry soap into warm water and add a little laundry detergent. Then soak the items in the soapy solution overnight. To enhance the effect, treat the stain with soap. After soaking, wash the items.

One or two tablespoons of vinegar added to the water during washing will help maintain the quality of the fabric at the proper level and at the same time remove dirt.

Choosing a detergent

In front of the wide range of laundry detergents available in stores, a buyer can easily get confused. In order to understand what, how and in what mode to wash a T-shirt, you first need to read the information on the label located on the T-shirt, where the manufacturer indicates all the optimal care parameters for this product.

It is also worth paying attention to the washing method, because there are powders that are intended only for hand washing, or only for washing in an automatic machine, but there are also universal products. However, a better solution would be to choose a gel product rather than a powder, as gels dissolve better in water, which reduces the likelihood that the product will remain on the T-shirt.

The optimal and universal means for washing white T-shirts is oxygen bleaches. They take care of the fabric, carefully and effectively removing even heavy dirt from it thanks to oxygen bubbles.

Once you have chosen the most suitable product, you can proceed directly to washing.

Regular wash

Most white T-shirts can be washed in two ways: by hand or in the washing machine.

You should choose hand washing if the fabric contains wool or lycra or if the product contains fittings and colored elements. How to wash a T-shirt by hand? First you need to fill a basin with clean warm water and add laundry detergent. It can be powder or gel, the main thing is to mix the product well in the basin, otherwise you can ruin the product. Next, a T-shirt is placed in the soap solution; it must be washed carefully by hand, paying special attention to the collar, armpits, cuffs and the bottom of the T-shirt. If there are heavy stains, it is best to wash them separately with a special stain remover or laundry soap. Then rinse the product in clean water and wring it out without twisting too much.

Of course, you can wash T-shirts in a washing machine, but you should know in what mode and at what temperature to carry out the procedure. The best mode is for delicate or hand washing. If this is possible, then it is better to turn off the spin mode altogether and remove the moisture from the product yourself after washing.

As for the question of what temperature to wash T-shirts at, it is set depending on the material of the product. Some T-shirts can withstand temperatures up to 60°C, but the optimal temperature is 40°C, which is suitable for all types of fabrics.

Next, we will look at ways to get rid of specific stains.

Against yellow spots from sweat

The most common problem faced by T-shirt lovers is yellow stains. On a white T-shirt these stains are especially visible. We cannot get rid of sweating, but we can return the product to its original appearance and remove yellow stains. There is a folk recipe for this: you need to mix lemon juice and 1 tsp. baking soda, wet the T-shirt with warm water, then lubricate the areas where there are yellow spots with the resulting solution and leave for about twenty minutes. After this, wash the T-shirt in your usual way.

Effective ways to deal with old stains

It is advisable to treat the contaminated area from the wrong side. In addition, a multi-layer paper towel or a white napkin is placed under the material, which is folded a couple of times.

This way the contamination will not spread further along the shirt. When working with stain remover, use a white cloth or cotton swab. The use of chemicals provokes shedding and worsens the problem.

In addition to cotton swabs, ammonia and peroxide, the following will help in resisting pollution:

  • vodka;
  • steep pitch;
  • acid or lemon;
  • egg yolk;
  • salt;
  • glycerol;
  • table vinegar;
  • stain removers.

The shade of old pollution will indicate the origin of the stain:

  • matte tone – fatty marks;
