Correct haircut against split ends

Split ends of hair are one of the most common difficulties that arise on the path of every woman who wants her hair to look well-groomed and full of strength. The reasons for the appearance may be different: lack of vitamins, unbalanced diet, frequent blow-drying or the consequences of coloring.

Every woman dreams of beautiful and voluminous hair, but very often we are faced with the problem of how to remove split ends from our hair. We will help you cope and remove this problem from your life. After all, nothing is impossible. The main thing is to properly care for your hair.

Often, split ends of hair begin to appear if they feel physical or have been exposed to chemical stress. We will give you some tips on how to avoid this problem and remove split ends of your hair. Here are some tips you can use.

Various hairdressing and beauty salons today offer many ways to treat this problem. For example, a therapeutic haircut. It is carried out with hot scissors. After all, when hair is cut in the usual way, the structure of the hair itself is disrupted, and it becomes completely vulnerable. If the haircut is carried out with heated (hot) scissors, then the hair remains even and smooth, and its tip is, as it were, sealed, which does not allow it to delaminate in the future.

Causes

* Mechanical and thermal. Hair damage due to improper care. Frequent use of thermal styling (blow-drying, curling with a curling iron, straightening hair with an iron) leads to the evaporation of the natural moisture of the hair, as a result of which it becomes dry and begins to flake.

* Physiological. These reasons are not related to damage due to improper care. Lack of a healthy diet is a common cause. The presence of many foods containing sugar in the diet is of great harm to the hair, as a result of which the supply of calcium in the body is disrupted. Also, an unhealthy diet is expressed in a lack of protein (the main building block of hair), vitamins and microelements. If you do not artificially replenish the balance of nutrients in case of deficiency (with the help of pharmaceutical preparations), the lack of some vitamins will affect the condition of the hair.

Diseases of the body. If you seriously pay attention to the problem of dry split ends and consult a doctor (a specialist trichologist deals with this issue), a common cause may be sluggish chronic diseases. Diseases of the gastrointestinal tract and disruptions in the body's immune system especially affect hair. Since hair is nourished according to the residual principle, in case of illness, nutrients are sent to more important internal organs.

* Genetic. A rare reason, but it does occur. Split hair can be inherited. This trait is transmitted from parents in the same way as.

Treatment options

Split ends can be restored using comprehensive treatment. First you need to remove already split ends, and then prevent the appearance of new splits at the ends. Cutting it off is the only real way to get rid of them. Other methods help to temporarily stop the process, glue or solder damaged areas of the hair structure, however, without eliminating the main cause of the split, the problem will reappear. By regularly trimming the ends of your hair by 1-2 cm, you can avoid the appearance of split ends. The disadvantage of this method is obvious - it is problematic to grow long hair. To maintain length, hairdressers twist hair into strands and cut off stray hairs.

1. Haircut with hot scissors

Haircut with hot scissors (thermal haircut) - in this case, the hairdresser assesses the condition of the hair to select the temperature regime for the haircut. A protective composition is applied to the hair, and the shape of the strands is selected. Haircuts are performed with or without strands. At the final stage, the hair is treated with a keratin composition. To perform the procedure efficiently, the master needs 2-3 hours, depending on the characteristics of the hair (length and thickness) and the degree of damage. A haircut gives a temporary cosmetic effect that appears gradually. In order to see full results, you need to carry out the procedure systematically.

2. Hair polishing

Hair polishing – this procedure is suitable for thick, porous and long hair that is prone to split ends. The master processes each strand with a nozzle, thus removing protruding hairs along the entire length. To eliminate problem areas of hair, you need to go through each strand about five times. A high-quality procedure provides a visible effect for up to six months. A contraindication to polishing may be the presence of scalp diseases or severe hair loss.

3. Home move

You can get rid of split ends at home with the help of specially selected care. It is worth understanding that complete restoration is possible only after the problem has been initially eliminated - cutting or polishing. Home care is aimed at maintaining hair condition. Since the most common problem with split ends is dryness and insufficient hydration, the product should restore the hair’s water balance and be predominantly oil-based.

You can start treating split ends at home with oil wraps. To do this, any oil (for example, castor or almond) is heated and distributed to the ends of the hair. The hair is wrapped in cling film or plastic wrap. If the procedure is performed during the day, you can warm up the composition with a hairdryer for better penetration of the oil into the hair. These masks for split ends are convenient to make at night. Exposure time from 30 minutes. Next, the hair is thoroughly rinsed with water and washed with shampoo. Finally, you can rinse your hair with a vitamin decoction of chamomile, nettle or St. John's wort.

At home, you can prepare hair masks for split ends. Mixtures based on dairy ingredients are considered effective.

The recipe for such a mask is very simple: any product (kefir, yogurt, milk or yogurt) is applied to clean hair and left to act. Next, the hair is washed with shampoo, and any cosmetic oil is applied to the ends. This product helps restore brittle, split ends.

4. Additional care

In home care, you should not ignore additional products. Be sure to use conditioner or balm after every hair wash. This product helps close the hair scales after washing, making them less tangled and easier to comb. It is recommended to tidy and style hair that is prone to damage using combs with natural large teeth. Long hair begins to be combed from the ends, short and medium hair - from the roots. In addition to rinse-off conditioners, it is recommended to use leave-in products: balms, creams, serums, fluids.

* Londa – Visible Repair leave-in balm for hair ends

Serum for split ends is a product presented in every professional cosmetics brand. A real find for problematic hair. It is with the help of serum at home that you can slow down the appearance of new sections and slightly glue previously damaged hair ends.

* Teotema Moisture Balance Split Ends Serum - Serum for split ends

* Repair Serum from the Keratin Hair Therapy series against split ends of hair “Intensive restoration”

* Protective serum for split ends KAARAL STYLE PERFETTO

* L'Oreal Professionnel Absolut Repair Lipidium - intensive care for split ends.

* Serum for split ends Estel CUREX Therapy

Young and middle-aged ladies are constantly puzzled by their appearance, including their hairstyle. By nature, only one in ten is endowed with luxurious hair; the rest have to work hard for the sake of beauty. As a result, under external influence (use of thermal devices, coloring, ultraviolet radiation, styling products), the hair structure is destroyed. Every girl is faced with the phenomenon of split ends.

One of the latest safe, innovative techniques in the field of hair care is hair polishing (or grinding).

.

Already from the name you can understand that the procedure gives gloss and shine to the hair. By polishing hair, a lamination effect is achieved

, split ends are eliminated, strands are smoothed and are easier to comb and style.

Hair splitting leads to the fact that the curls become tangled and look untidy. It is known that such split hairs cannot be restored. Until recently, in order to “renew” their hair in such situations, girls and women were forced to cut off some of their strands. Now it’s easy to solve the problem without loss of length - polish it in a salon (or at home).

How to remove split ends along the entire length at home

One of the most effective and inexpensive methods by which you can restore your hair to its former beauty and even improve its structure is the use of medicinal masks. Let's look at the most popular recipes.

Oil masks

In professional salons you may be interested in expensive oils for split ends, but we offer

alternative option: cheaper, but no less effective. To do this, buy any of the following oils at the pharmacy: flaxseed, coconut, jojoba, almond, olive, castor or burdock. Take several types of oils and alternate them, catching the nuances of the hair's reaction: this way you will decide which product is most suitable for you.

How to apply oil correctly? First, wash your hair and let your hair dry without a hair dryer. At this time, heat the selected oil or their mixture in a steam bath and apply it warm to the roots of the head, and then along the entire length of the curls. Pay special attention to the ends of your hair! Then insulate your head with a plastic cap and wrap your hair with a towel, creating a greenhouse effect. Leave the oil mask on your head for about 1 hour and rinse with water acidified with vinegar or lemon juice.

Egg + honey

Take the following ingredients for the mask:

  1. 2 tbsp. l. olive oil.
  2. 1 fresh egg yolk.
  3. 1 tsp. liquid honey.

Pre-heat the oil in a steam bath or at least hold it in your hands until it feels warm, pour it into the mixture of honey and yolk and rub into the scalp with massaging movements. Distribute the rest of the product over the entire length of the curls, including the ends. Be sure to wear a plastic hat and insulate your hair with a towel. Wash off the mask after half an hour.

Colorless henna

For a healing mask, choose colorless henna, which will in no way change the color of your hair. The beneficial properties of henna are known to many people: it improves blood circulation, straightens and strengthens weakened hair, gives shine and a healthy appearance. Henna can be used in its pure form or, if the hair is too dry, diluted with olive oil.

For the mask, you will need 1 packet of henna if your hair is less than 30 cm long. Take warm water (3 parts) and pour in henna (1 part). Mix everything and leave to brew for about 15 minutes. The paste is applied to the roots and along the length of the curls. It is recommended to wash off the healing mixture without using shampoo.

Castor oil + egg

Take 1 tbsp. l. castor oil available to everyone, heat it a little and mix with 1 scrambled egg yolk. After rubbing into the roots of the hair, it is recommended to leave the mixture on the head for 3 hours, then rinse and rinse the curls with vinegar or lemon water.

Yeast + kefir

Take 50 ml of fresh kefir and 2 tsp. dry yeast. Mix the ingredients, let them stand for 15 minutes and apply to the ends of the hair, gradually moving towards the roots. Be sure to insulate your head with a cap and towel, and leave the mask on for half an hour.

Olive oil + sour cream

1 tbsp. l. olive oil must be mixed with 2 tbsp. l. sour cream and apply to your head. It is recommended to leave the mask on for 1 hour and apply it once a week. This is an excellent remedy for preventing split ends.

Peach mask

Take a ripe peach, remove the skin and grate the pulp on a coarse grater. Apply the aromatic pulp to the entire length of your hair and scalp.

Mask made from fermented milk products

Heat any fermented milk product you have in the refrigerator and apply it to your hair. Warming your head under a cellophane cap is a must!

Mask for hair ends

This unique remedy is prepared as follows: 2 tsp. Dissolve fresh honey in ½ cup of warm water. Water can be replaced with a decoction of birch, chamomile or mint. Gather the ends of your hair into a bun and dip them in the healing liquid for 5 minutes. There is no need to rinse off the product!

Regularity is very important in the process of getting rid of split ends. Nutrition and hydration should affect not only the ends of the strands, but also the entire length. Take care of your hair with love, and it will respond to you with beauty and shine!

Who is hair polishing suitable for?

A simple test will tell you if your strands need polishing. Detach part of the hair, twist it into a rope and see if the ends stick out. Most likely, the answer will be positive, since in 90% of women, the curls are split not only at the ends, but also deformed along the entire length.

Therefore, hair polishing is suitable in the following situations: heavy and thick hair; unruly hair; with frequent use of an iron or hair dryer; for bleaching and staining; when curling.

The length in this case does not matter - the procedure is carried out on both long and short hair, but the effect is more pronounced on long curls.

Grinding strands is of particular relevance for owners of multi-layered (cascading) haircuts. The procedure allows you to remove protruding ends at each level, while maintaining volume and length.

Curly girls will not be able to tidy up their hair this way - the effect will be there, but not as noticeable as on straight hair.

IMPORTANT!

Polishing should be postponed if the hair is thin and prone to loss. First, you should use balms, salon (or folk) remedies to restore the health of your curls, then polish and bring them to perfection.

How does the procedure work?

Let us immediately emphasize that it is better to entrust hair polishing to a professional (at least for the first time). Like any beauty manipulation, polishing is performed according to certain rules and consists of several stages:

1.

The head is washed and dried. This is necessary so that the greasy ends do not “hide”.

2.

The hair is sprayed with styling. This is necessary to avoid electrification.

3.

Curls are straightened with an iron or a special comb. This measure will help to capture and remove the maximum number of damaged ends.

4.

The hair is divided into parts, processing begins from the back of the head.

5.

Having grabbed a small strand, run the machine from top to bottom, and then in different directions 3-4 times. This allows you to achieve the best effect.

6.

At the end of the procedure, the lower edge is trimmed with a machine or scissors.

7.

The hair is washed again, the curls are dried and styled. After this procedure, the hair looks well-groomed, smooth and shiny.

However, it is worth noting that the opinions of girls who tried this procedure were divided. Many beauty bloggers speak negatively about this procedure, or simply do not see the declared effect 100%.

Pros and cons of polishing

We can talk about the advantages of grinding if all the rules of the procedure are followed and a high-quality apparatus is used. Salons use professional hair clippers and attachments, which means the effect is higher. Pros of the procedure:

Perfectly straight cuts (re-cutting after polishing is not observed, unlike the procedure with scissors); Up to 90% removal of all split ends; Damaged ends are removed not only along the edges, but also at all levels of the haircut; Hair becomes smooth, soft, and easy to comb; The length of the curls is maintained; The ability to process strands for any haircut (short, medium, multi-level); Grinding is recommended for almost any hair type; Absolute safety of the procedure; Long-term effect (up to 3 months).

Polishing, like any impact, has its drawbacks

. Although upon closer examination they look more like features of the procedure. These include:

The duration of the manipulations (in some cases 1-2 hours) depends on the volume and length of the hair. High price (if you have thick curls up to your shoulder blades and below, be prepared to incur expenses); Expensive equipment (to carry out the procedure at home, you will need to purchase a reliable machine with a special attachment, and this costs a lot); The effect may be short-lived, if the master performs the procedure incorrectly or with poor-quality technique, then in the future the hair will also split. It is not recommended to sand your hair immediately after dyeing or curling; There is no therapeutic effect from the procedure. It is not recommended for thin, sparse hair.

Hair care after polishing

To maintain softness and shine, a neat appearance and ease of combing for a long time, special care is required after sanding. To help every girl and woman, folk remedies, ready-made masks and balms. And also a list of simple rules:

After the procedure, you should refrain from using a hairdryer, ironing, or other thermal devices (3-7 days); Constantly use nourishing oil for the ends of your hair; Maintain the beauty and health of your strands by using natural gifts: lemon juice, herbal infusions, milk masks, etc.; Protect your hair from exposure to cold and ultraviolet radiation, excessive humidity and dryness; Don't forget that the condition of your hair is affected not only by external factors, but also by your health. Establish proper nutrition and take vitamins.

They can ruin the appearance of even the most sophisticated hairstyle. Almost half of those with long hair face this problem, often experiencing discomfort and inconvenience from untidy split ends. The easiest way is to get rid of it, but in this case you will have to lose part of the lush hair that has been growing for years, which is simply unacceptable for many long-haired beauties.

Split ends are a problem and need to get rid of them.

Having discovered split ends, do not immediately despair, become depressed and start choosing a short hairstyle.

There are many ways to get rid of split ends without resorting to a hairdresser.

A little about the structure of hair

To understand how split ends appear on hair, you need to pay attention to the anatomical features of the hair.
Hairs are derivatives of our skin. They grow due to nutrients and the necessary “building material”, which are supplied by blood vessels to each hair follicle in the thickness of the skin.

On the outside, each hair is covered with many keratin scales. Normally, these scales tightly envelop the hair shaft. They are helped by a secret secreted by the sebaceous glands of the head.

The rule is this: the longer the hair, the more nutrition it requires for growth.

Owners of long hair, if they do not take sufficient care of their curls, at a certain point begin to notice that their hair is splitting. In the protective shell of lipids that once enveloped the hair shaft along its entire length, damage appears, and open keratin scales gradually peel off. Thus, once beautiful thick hair can turn into dull, unhealthy tow due to the mass of split curls.

Causes of split ends

Typically, hair whose length exceeds 30-35 cm splits. Lubricants secreted by the scalp simply do not reach the ends of the hair and are not able to provide adequate protection from the influence of external negative factors. Thus, the top layer of hair is not protected in any way from the following types of exposure:

  • Thermal (as a result of using a hair dryer, curling iron or other devices).
  • Chemical (reagents in pools, painting, use of varnishes).
  • Mechanical (combing, curling).

As a result of these effects, the top, protective layer is destroyed, as a result of which the hair loses its elasticity and becomes brittle, splitting at the ends.

More reasons

In addition, damage can occur as a result of a number of other reasons:

  • Lack of moisture in the body.
  • Incorrect selection of cosmetics, paints, shampoos.
  • Abuse of hair dryer, curling iron, hot rollers, excessively high temperature.
  • A long break between visits to the hairdresser (if there is a break of more than six months, the ends stop receiving adequate nutrition and gradually die off).
  • Combing with a hard comb or a brush with sharp teeth.
  • Long stays on the beach, alternating exposure to the scorching sun and fresh or salt water.
  • An unbalanced diet and, as a result, a lack of a number of vitamins, minerals and trace elements in the body.

Proper nutrition is the secret to success in health.
In some cases, you don’t even need to resort to full-fledged treatment - it will be enough to identify and eliminate the cause of the problem (diversify your diet, give up some cosmetics or change your comb) and after a short period of time your hair will return to normal.

Split ends: what is it?

Quite often, dry hair splits, which gives the curls an unkempt appearance.
Split ends are a splitting of the hair shaft. If you examine split ends under a microscope, you can see that the outer keratin layer is destroyed, the scales rise, without preventing the internal fibers from diverging. The hair may change texture, causing kinks and visible white knots to appear. If measures are not taken in a timely manner, the rods break off and the uneven ends delaminate again. More often the damage affects the ends of the strands, but sometimes delamination occurs along the entire length.

REFERENCE! The condition of the strands depends on the length of the hair and the speed of its growth. The shorter the curls, the more well-groomed they look. The secret is simple - fast-growing hair is more likely to renew itself, and cutting off the ends in a timely manner allows you to maintain an impeccable appearance.

Hair shafts can split for a variety of reasons. Among the most common:

  • improper care using aggressive products (shampoos, foams, varnishes);
  • frequent coloring, lightening, or tinting using paints containing ammonia;
  • abuse of hot styling;
  • hard, chlorinated water;
  • lack of vitamins and fats in food;
  • neglect of hats in cold weather;
  • pregnancy;
  • taking medications;
  • frequent stress.

To improve the condition of the curls, it is necessary to eliminate all provoking factors

It is important to get as much rest as possible and avoid stress and overexertion.

You can remove split ends without cutting them either with the help of specialists or at home. The modern cosmetic industry offers a huge range of products specially designed to combat this problem, at the same time you can use one of the many traditional medicine recipes - it all depends on personal preferences.

You can also stop the splitting by cutting with hot scissors - as a result, the ends melt and do not split for some time. It is advisable to carry out this procedure once every few months in a hairdresser, but with some skill you can do it yourself.

Cosmetics for the care of damaged hair are available in the form of serums, oils or masks. Such products may include complexes of vitamins and mineral elements (vitamins A, E, provitamin B5, zinc, selenium, silicon and others) or additives of herbal ingredients (burdock, St. John's wort, plantain, linden chamomile extracts, ginseng).

Popular recipes for caring for split ends and cleaning

Most traditional medicines can be prepared at home. The following recipes are popular:

  1. Mix 1 part vinegar with 2 parts olive oil and add 1 egg. Bring the resulting mixture to a temperature of 40°C and mix thoroughly. Apply to split ends and leave for 20-25 minutes, then rinse.
  2. A mask made from sour cream and olive oil, mixed in equal proportions, helps with hair. After application, put a cellophane cap on your head and leave it on for an hour.
  3. A castor oil mask with the addition of a small amount of vinegar, glycerin and beaten egg. Apply for 20 minutes and then rinse thoroughly.
  4. A nourishing mask of ripe rowan fruits (0.5-1 cup), curdled milk (1 cup) and beaten egg is applied for 20 minutes, after which it is washed off with clean running water without using shampoo.
  5. A collection of herbs from 1 part burdock root, 1 part dried nasturtium, 2 parts thyme and 2 parts nettle is poured with boiling water and infused in a tightly closed container. The cooled broth is filtered and used to rinse hair.

Masks for split ends

With the help of natural masks you can not get rid of, but prevent the appearance of split ends and improve the condition of your hair. The main goal of such masks is maximum hydration. They need to be applied to the ends or along the entire length.

  • Egg masks

First option: mix one yolk with one spoon of castor oil.
Leave the mask on your hair for three hours, and after rinsing, rinse with warm water and lemon juice. Second option: add a tablespoon of honey and two tablespoons of warm olive oil to the egg yolk. Keep under a cap and towel for half an hour.

  • Yeast mask

Add two tablespoons of dry yeast to kefir, mix and leave in a warm place for 15 minutes. You can keep the mixture on your hair, wrapping it up, for up to an hour.

  • Oil masks

Vegetable oils have excellent moisturizing properties, which is what weakened and dry hair needs. In addition, oils make them elastic and shiny.

For split ends, coconut, flaxseed, olive, almond oil, as well as grape seed and jojoba oil are especially effective. They need to be heated in a water bath, and then rubbed into the ends or along the length of the hair, then put a plastic cap on top and leave for at least an hour. You can leave the mask on even overnight - there will definitely be no harm from it.

  • Sour cream and olive mask

For split ends. Mix two tablespoons of sour cream with one tablespoon of olive oil. Apply over the entire length of hair for an hour, rinse with shampoo. Use this mask once a week to prevent split ends.

  • Kefir-egg mask

Add egg yolk to half a glass of kefir and mix thoroughly. Using a brush, apply the resulting mixture to dry, thoroughly combed hair ends. Wrap the coated ends in plastic wrap and leave for 30–40 minutes. After this, you can immediately wash it off with shampoo.

  • Colorless henna mask

Brew a couple of tablespoons of colorless henna with a small amount of boiling water or a decoction of herbs (chamomile, birch, mint) until a creamy consistency is obtained. Leave the mask to sit for 20 minutes, then distribute over the entire length of your hair for half an hour. You can wash it off without shampoo.

  • Honey and herbs

This is an unusual recipe for the ends of your hair. Dissolve 1-2 teaspoons of honey in half a glass of clean, but not hot, water or a decoction of herbs (chamomile, birch, mint). Then collect your hair with your hands and dip the ends in the honey solution for a few minutes. There is no need to rinse off the honey water.

Prevention for dry split ends

As in any other case, it is easier to prevent a problem than to deal with its consequences.

There is a list of proven rules, the observance of which minimizes the likelihood of split ends:

  • On average, once a month the ends should be trimmed using scissors.
  • Preference should be given to shampoos and other care products with a moisturizing and nourishing effect.
  • You need to start washing your hair from the roots, using a minimal amount of shampoo on the ends.
  • From time to time, it is advisable to pamper yourself with masks based on olive or other oils (a small amount of essential oils can be added for a relaxing effect).
  • You should comb your hair only after drying; wet hair is easy to damage.
  • You should avoid or minimize the use of hair dryers, curling irons, and hot rollers.
  • Provide yourself with a nutritious, healthy diet; your food should include all the necessary vitamins and microelements.

Before we talk about the importance of split ends removal, let's first find out what causes split ends in hair? Here's what you need to know:

Shampoo for split ends

Do not forget that any shampoo, even shampoo for split ends, is primarily intended for cleansing, not treatment. For treatment, it is best to additionally use oils, masks and serums. As for shampoo, you should choose one that serves to nourish and moisturize the hair. Buy organic, sulfate-free shampoos. There is no need to use shampoo for split ends all the time. It is better to alternate it with your regular one every 3-4 washes. The more active compounds in the shampoo to eliminate split ends, the longer you take a break from using it. Otherwise, you may, on the contrary, damage your hair.

What causes split ends?

Let's answer a more important question first - what is split hair? Our hair begins to split at the ends when the cuticle (the outer protective layer) becomes damaged and begins to wear away. This causes the thin inner layer to be exposed and weakened or dehydrated, which in turn causes the outer layer (cuticle) to crack and delaminate.

Unfortunately, there are many factors that can contribute to this process. While you might blame it on that harsh environment, you also need to take a long, hard look at how you treat your hair. So, here are some of the most common things we do that lead to split ends:

  • Detangle hair aggressively.
  • Detangle your hair when it is wet.
  • Sun damage caused by bareheaded exposure to the sun.
  • Using heat treatment tools such as straighteners, curling irons and hair dryers.
  • Lack of regular trimming of ends.
  • Not regular hair care.
  • Daily hair washing.
  • Undergoing cosmetic procedures that use harsh drugs, such as bleaching or perming.
  • Using too many styling products such as gels, mousses, waxes, hair sprays, etc.
  • Sleeping on rough or cheap low-quality pillowcases.
  • Unhealthy diet and lack of proteins, minerals and vitamins

Why do you need to trim the ends of your hair?

Aside from making your hair look dull, damaged, and lifeless, there are plenty of reasons why keeping split ends is a bad idea. Here's what you need to think about:

  • Split ends don't go away on their own: Split ends don't magically come back together when you actively take care of them. In fact, the longer you wait to cut them, the more damage will be done to each individual hair that has even a barely noticeable split at the end.
  • Uneven pigmentation: The color of split ends is usually a little lighter than your natural hair color. This can make your overall hair color uneven and your overall appearance unkempt.
  • Robs your hair of shine: Split ends deprive your hair of its bright shine and make it dull and lifeless. No amount of conditioners, hair masks, and spa treatments can restore shine to your hair if you don't remove split ends.

The easiest, fastest and most convenient way to get rid of split ends is to trim them. Wait a minute! Before you rush to make an appointment with your hairdresser, consider the following. You can easily trim your split ends yourself without leaving your home! All you need is a good pair of hair cutting scissors and that's it! There are 3 different methods you can try to get rid of split ends at home.

How to trim split ends on yourself

I. Hair curling method

Hair curling is a traditional method of trimming split ends and is a method even used by professional hairdressers!

What to do:

  1. Start with dry hair.
  2. Take a thin section of hair and twist it tightly clockwise from roots to ends. Hold this twisted section of hair tightly by the end.
  3. If you twist your hair hard enough, you will see split ends sticking out from the twisted part along the entire length of the strand.
  4. Starting at the top and working your way down, trim off any protruding split ends.
  5. Now turn the twist of this strand again, but in a counter-clockwise direction, and cut off the split ends in the same way.
  6. Repeat this process for all of your hair.

II. Hair sliding method

Hair sliding is a more unconventional method that not many people know about. This is because the method requires a little more effort since you need to straighten your hair before cutting off the split ends.

What to do:

  1. Apply a heat protectant and straighten your hair. (You can skip this step if you already have straight hair.)
  2. 2. Use a wide toothed comb to remove all knots.
  3. 3. Lift a section of hair and pinch it between your index and middle fingers. This way, you will only see your hair above your index finger.
  4. 4. Slowly pass the strand between your fingers and you will be able to see any loose ends that need trimming.
  5. 5. Cut off those split ends.
  6. 6. Continue the sliding and cutting motion until you reach the end of the strand. Then just follow the same procedure on all your hair.

III. Trimming ends

If you don't have the time (or patience!) to use the twist and slide techniques, you can simply trim the ends of your hair.

What to do:

  1. Start with damp hair. You can do this right after you get out of the shower or dampen your hair with a spray bottle.
  2. Comb your hair with a comb.
  3. Separate a section of hair and place it between your index and middle fingers, right at the roots.
  4. Holding the hair tightly between your fingers, move your fingers down until you are 2-3cm away from the ends. Keep the ends in front of you.
  5. Holding the scissors perpendicular to the hair, carefully cut 1-2 cm from the hair.
  6. Trim the ends of all hair following the same procedure.

Although cutting off split ends is quite easy, you must understand that they indicate poor condition of your hair. Therefore, it is better to start taking care of your hair and repair it to prevent split ends from occurring in the future.

Why does my hair split along its entire length?

The condition of our hair is a direct reflection of our health. If suddenly your hair begins to split along the entire length, and your smooth and silky hair becomes dry, pay attention to your well-being - physical and psychological. Perhaps you have suffered severe stress, or have suffered from some seasonal illness.

Another reason for the loss of beauty can be vitamin deficiency, most often this happens in late winter - early spring. Check your combs - replace them with carbon combs without sharp teeth (read more about how to choose a comb and comb your hair correctly here).

If you are a fan of frequent image changes - coloring, perms or straightening, then the reason for dryness is obvious. A love of complex hairstyles with backcombing can also lead to dryness and brittleness. Read more about dry hair here.

Perhaps none of the reasons mentioned above apply to you, then, most likely, you should contact a trichologist. This will be the most accurate diagnosis of the condition of your hair and scalp. It may happen that you detect or prevent the disease in time.

How to Prevent Split Ends

Yes, split ends can harm the health and appearance of your hair. But luckily for you, there are plenty of things you can do to prevent them from happening. Here are some tips and tricks you can try:

  • Trim your hair regularly: Every time you wash and comb your hair, it causes a little wear and tear - this leads to split ends. So it is best to trim your hair every 2-3 months.
  • Oil your hair before washing it. We all know that oiling your hair can nourish and hydrate it from the inside out. To form a protective coating around your hair to reduce the damage caused by shampooing, apply a nourishing oil.
  • Reduce the use of heat styling products: Regular use of heat styling products strips your hair of moisture and leaves it dry, brittle and prone to splitting. So try not to use them often, and when you do use them, make sure to apply a heat protectant to your hair first.
  • Don't wash your hair every day and avoid using hot water: Doing one or both of these things can strip your hair of its natural oils, dehydrate it, and weaken it.
  • Dry your hair gently: vigorously rubbing wet hair with a towel can cause severe damage and cause split ends. Instead, wrap your hair in a microfiber towel until it absorbs all the excess water and leave it in the air until completely dry.
  • Apply a leave-in conditioner: Leave-in conditioners (or other similar products) make your hair more manageable and easily detangle knots, reducing the risk of split ends.
  • Use a wide-toothed comb: Use a wide-toothed comb and begin detangling your hair, working your way up from the ends toward the scalp to prevent further tangling, breakage, and split ends.
  • Wear a hat/scarf when going outside: leaving your hair exposed to the hot sun or cold winds exposes your hair to damage. So, make sure you wear a hat or wrap a scarf around your head to protect your hair in extremely cold, windy or hot sunny weather.
  • Regular deep conditioning. It is important to deep condition your hair every 2 weeks to restore moisture and nourish your hair from the inside out.
  • Use products that contain PEC: PEC, or polyelectrolyte complex, is a new ingredient that temporarily repairs split ends by penetrating the hair shaft and sealing it from the inside. So, choose a conditioner that contains PEC if you want to improve the condition of your ends and also prevent further splitting.
  • Use soft hair ties: Rubber, silicone hair ties or those with a metal clasp in the middle tend to break your hair. Use soft hair ties that are gentle on your hair.
  • Oil your hair before swimming. Regular swimming in hard, chlorine-laden water can cause irreparable damage to your hair. Apply a protective layer of coconut oil to your hair and put on a swim cap before jumping into the pool.
  • Eat a balanced diet and drink plenty of water. Eating a balanced diet rich in proteins, vitamins and minerals, as well as maintaining a good hydration balance in your body is very important for the health of your hair.

Split ends can be very unattractive. But that doesn't mean you can't get rid of them. Trim them using the instructions we've given you and prevent them from appearing in the future.

Hair oils for split ends

Another option, bad habits and poor diet

You can add flexibility and elasticity using hair oils for split ends.

Castor oil is considered ideal. It nourishes the hair well and envelops it. After using the oil, hair is no longer dry and brittle. Thanks to burdock oil, hair begins to grow more actively and restores its structure. Regular olive oil protects hair from negative environmental influences. Coconut oil penetrates well into the membrane and exerts its healing effect from there. Sea buckthorn oil is a real godsend for those who have split ends. It is responsible for the regeneration of cells and cuticles. In addition, the oil will help eliminate dandruff.

You can mix several oils together and use this unique composition. In addition to the fact that oils cover the hair, they contain a large amount of vitamins and minerals, so they nourish the scalp and hair cells well.

It is better to apply oils a couple of hours before you wash your hair. You can do this at night and wash your hair in the morning.
