What you need to know

Mikhail Galustyan

In 2012, Galustyan condemned the action of the punk group Pussy Riot in the Cathedral of Christ the Savior. He wrote: “Certainly these creatures of God have desecrated the most sacred thing that man has. Today they are dancing in the church where I was baptized and baptized my daughters. In a place where a person comes to talk to the Lord about his dreams, grief, loss, happiness, he asks to save his soul and not get lost in this difficult world. Tomorrow they will piss on the monument to the unknown soldier, where our grandfathers who died for the honor and freedom of our Motherland are buried.” In the same year, he participated in the election campaign of Russian presidential candidate Vladimir Putin.

On March 31, 2020, the Humpty Dumpty group posted SMS correspondence from 2011 to 2014, allegedly between the deputy head of the Presidential Administration for Domestic Policy, Timur Prokopenko, and Mikhail Galustyan. In the correspondence, “Prokopenko” agrees with “Galustyan” to publish on behalf of the comedian a text about the events on the Maidan and the death of a Boeing passenger plane in eastern Ukraine. Subsequently, this text appeared on Galustyan’s Twitter and Facebook pages.

Two months after the publication of that article, “Galustyan” turned to “Prokopenko” with a request to award him the title of Honored Artist of Russia.

Direct speech

About what he wanted to become as a child (“Interview”): “A taxi driver, Rimbaud and the Terminator, and my parents wanted me to follow in my mother’s footsteps and become a doctor. My mother took me to her work in the emergency room, and I even learned how to apply the plaster myself. Once I put a cast on my right hand, came to a dictation in the Russian language and told the teacher: “I broke my arm.” She freed me from dictation. I was happy! But a week passed, I was tired of the plaster, and I took it off, without thinking that with broken limbs, limbs do not heal quickly. When she saw my healthy hand, the teacher’s eyes widened! By the way, I got a solid “D” in the Russian language this year, and she invited me to play KVN - they say, maybe at least for this I could sadly get a “C”. I went, and you can see how it pulled me in! Although, at the insistence of my mother, I entered medical school and now I can provide qualified first aid. Then he worked in intensive care as a paramedic - this is no longer a nurse, but not yet a doctor. One of the strongest impressions was when I had to assist during childbirth. It is terrible and wonderful at the same time to be involved in the sacrament of the birth of a new person. But at the same time it’s very scary.”

About acting education (program “Alone with Everyone,” October 2014): “Everyone urged me: you don’t have an acting education, and you are engaged in this craft, go and learn already. I was thinking about going to Shchepka or Shchuka. But they told me: don’t go to an educational institution, they will break you there. They scared me, in general. I think at least some courses. But I realized that they weren’t giving me anything new there. That is, I know everything the teachers talk about. The character that I understand, I will play like that - not every actor will play like that. And vice versa, if I don’t understand how to play, no matter how hard I force it, I won’t succeed, or it will be obvious that it’s fake. Taking into account the fact that I am gladly invited to various television and film projects as an actor, I think that I have at least minimal competition with actors who have received higher education.”

Address to the top of Ararat (Instagram, October 2015): “Hello, friend. Hello dear. We haven't seen each other for over thirty years. Thirty three. This is just a moment for you. Your one breath is a millennium. But I managed to live life. And my head gave away silver. You see how I gave significance to my banal gray hair.

I'm glad to see you. You're still great. Still open. Still dear to my heart. ...And to everyone to him.

It's time. I hope that at the next meeting my head will not be the color of your top, and I will remember the road to you this time better than in 1982.

I'll go. But I will definitely come back to you. I just realized how much I need you.”
